I love places like this, where the owner knows I’m not a regular but treats me like I’ll become one. The food came out fast. It was made to order. The food wasn’t great, but it was filling. Pancakes were good, biscuits and gravy needed a little more pepper. Country ham and biscuits didn’t use good quality ham — I’d skip it. Still, I’d return because of the friendly staff.

You better be careful cause this restaurant is off the chain. Sandwiches so big you’ll be full for 2 days. I recommend the cookies as well all day!

I just moved into the everbank building next door and eat here alot their breakfasts are fab i ordered 2 eggs over easy hashbrowns and grits. OMG the hasbrowns are to die for real potatoes with caramelized onions and seasoned perfectly. My eggs were cooked perfect not broken or overdone. Oh yeah almost forgot the bacon nice thick slices not cooked to all hell. Totally yummy breakfast! I also have had their meatball sub the BLT and thier meatloaf special. All excellent. This is a great place to eat everyone is super friendly! Looking forward to a long relationship with this establishment!

Very good godfather sandwich which is a type of Italian sub. My husband had the meatloaf special and said it was 5 star worthy! Chicken soup was very good also. I would definitely go back. Staff knew their stuff, they were smart and efficient. Very refreshing!

This review is for the new location at 50 N. Laura, inside the Bank of America building… This was my first and my last visit to the new Akel’s Deli. First off, let me say that as a former deli/café owner myself, that served Boar’s Head exclusively, the«Black Forest“sandwich I got was tasty. The reason this was my first and last trip there is because of the price. I paid over $ 8.00 for the sandwich, which I didn’t really mind until they handed it to me and it was literally, JUST the sandwich, in a plastic bag. Never in my life have I ever gone to a «deli» and got JUST the sandwich with no chips or pickle or something… To be honest, I would have probably been okay with not getting anything else, if the sandwich was like $ 5.50-$ 6.00 but to pay over $ 8,00 for JUST the sandwich… nope! Sorry, I won’t be back…

Really cute breakfast and lunch spot located off Forsyth street in downtown Jacksonville. I came here to pick up a quick breakfast order. They have a good selection of breakfast items. I got a specialty omelet… bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, peppers, and tomatoes and my coworker got the veggie omelet. Mine was good and hit the spot but a little bland if I am being honest. Overall it’s a good option downtown since there are few places available with full breakfast menus. They also have free delivery with orders over $ 25 and catering options.

If you ask any of the locals in Jacksonville what they think about downtown Jacksonville, they’ll all tell you the same thing. It’s not an area you want to stay in, but the city has been trying hard to revitalize the area. Now, lucky me, my company has an office there and I had the pleasure of staying in downtown Jacksonville. During my first week there, I naturally Unilocaled for lunch spots and Akel’s popped up. After my first visit, my coworker and I would come back here for lunch everyday. Akel’s is the epitome mom/pop shop with its regular customers. I believe the people working are the owners and they’re super nice. At first I had my doubts. A deli that also made gyro and sold slaw dogs? What is this place? Whatever you order, everything is always fresh and delicious. You don’t come across finds like this everyday. Prices are no more than $ 9(daily combo meals that give you large portions). So, if you happen to find yourself in downtown Jacksonville for whatever reason and you are in dire need of lunch, stop by Akel’s! TLDR: stuck in downtown Jacksonville and need lunch? go to Akel’s for sandwiches and other delicious goodies.

Skip the prepackaged franchise crap and eat quality food prepared in front of you with quality ingredients by the owner. Highly recommended. Michael Hosto

Nothing special but nothing bad to say. I had the chicken salad which was tasty but not exceptional. The service was friendly and the prices were reasonable.

Stopped here for lunch and had the Greek salad with no meat which was delicious and refreshing and light. My co-worker had the fish wrap which looked pretty good and light also. Akel’s always does a good job with their menu and it taste great. They know the regulars on a first name bases and it remind me of Cheers without the alcohol being served. A great palce for lunch.

1st visit… friendly staff… good sandwich… has steak & cheese in a wrap… lots of meat and lots of flavor… I heard from a co-worker the soup was good here, but that sandwich filled me up… so tomorrow I’ll just have soup. They have 2 soups today, chicken & dumpling and also Caribbean jerk chicken. Also have daily specials posted on a board, which I missed today.

I have had their bacon egg and cheese croissant twice now, and I have to say I’m very impressed. I work downtown and have tried a couple of places and I keep coming back. Good size not the little ones. Very Happy Customer

Now I have eaten here a few times before and I can’t believe that I haven’t written a review till now. This is a small joint just what you need of you are them. They do a heck of a business from early morning breakfast. Then a good lunch business so you better be quick with your order or you might just get yourself kicked by the person behind you. I have had some good sandwiches here specially their meatball sub is really good. But, today the guy in front of me ordered the rancher so I had to look it up and sure I’ll go with one of those. The«Rancher» is really a hot roast beef with the all the fixins. That’s lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayo,=fixins. My sandwich was really good and there was platy of meat. Now I did have to sit outside cause of a couple of let’s say plentiful women. I did enjoy my sandwich better then I did the weather but that’s a good thing. It keeps the line for the seats moving. After all in the office world of downtown during the day. Lunch can be fast paced.

Went for breakfast and loved this place! Food was great! Had the pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and coffee. Honestly, the pancakes and eggs didn’t look like they do back home in Texas but they tasted amazing. The guy helping us could obviously tell we were from out of town and guided us through. The seating area was small but felt like going in to someone’s home rather than a place of business. Loved it! Will definitely return for breakfast while in Jacksonville!

Nice little deli. Good subs, sandwiches, and sides. They serve boars head meats. Prices are not to bad for what you get either. Fairly personable staff that’ll help you pick a good menu item if you’re lost on what to eat. I’d give it 5 stars if they could bring the décor up so it doesn’t look so dated on the inside and appear a little cleaner.

They are friendly, good prices, great location. Just seems a little disorganized at times. I would recommend to anyone. I love the Chili and a lot of the other soups that they have.
