The place is being renovated. We ordered for carryout. The spaghetti with meat sauce was okay.

Vegetarian review: I absolutely love this place. The first time I ate here I got the veggie lasagna and it was incredible. There is nothing better than eating lasagna and finding an entire bay leaf in your food. I have been eating here almost weekly for a couple of years now. We have had the pizza, which is incredible. Crunchy crust and delicious sauce. The salads are amazing(homemade dressings-try the blue cheese). The staff is always friendly and they make you feel right at home.

Best Italian in town! Don’t be fooled by the outside exterior. My favorite is the veal parmigian. There is always enough for two and the price is quite reasonable for the portion and quality. It’s homemade Italian at its best! The staff is great and it has a hometown atmosphere.

Fantastic pizza and great calzones. The wait staff was very attentive, and kept my drink filled.(I drink a lot, and most waiters can not keep up with me.) The pizza was just right. This is the third time I have been there, and the pizza has been great every time. My fiancé got a calzone, and he loved it. The dipping sauce was spicy, but good. The prices are good, and the desserts are yummy. This is one of the best pizza places I have ever been to. I gladly recommend it to anyone.

This place is pretty close to one of our warehouses, so I took one of the guys here for lunch(at his recommendation). I was *very* pleasantly surprised! The pizza was fresh, delicious, and big enough to make my diet cry tears of joy(and pain). It was well worth the extra gym time that was required! This might become a regular spot for me, especially considering the phenomenal service!

Now I have been going to Joseph’s for many years now. Even thou I haven’t been in a couple now. I used to eat here a lot for lunch and it was good then. Tonight I had a hankering for pizza and really didn’t feel like driving all the way to Mandarin so. I putted down the road to this staple of almost downtown. It is on the outskirts of downtown out by the river. The place hasn’t changed in maybe 20 years. The same paneling on the walls and the 1960’s light fixtures. You know if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The lights still work like most everything built back then when I was. I went with a Joseph’s Special no olives and some sausage stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were good nothing real special just plan tasty. Now the pizza was a heavy weight. I ate all I could and still took home more then half a pie. It still weighs about 4−5lbs if I had to guess. I really enjoyed it with nice fresh toppings and plenty of them too. I will be back sooner then later that’s for sure.

We enjoy the pizza with some premium toppings like artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes and garlic and plenty of Italian sausage. The toppings are always generous and the pizza delicious. The garlic rolls and fresh bakery items along with some delectable canolis are amazing as well. We have tried several of the Italian dinners, and they are also dependably good, but your best off sticking with a nice sandwich, calzone, or pizza here. Very friendly staff also makes a visit to Joseph’s a treat.

If you like a good pizza, this is your place. I ordered the Gyro pizza and it came out delicious– thin crispy crust with a wonderfully balanced taste. Like it says on the menu, they really do cook the crust well done, so if you like it doughy and wet(disgusting, in my opinion, but hey) you might want to find somewhere else to get your pizza. There’s not much more for me to say than that! It’s just good pizza. The location is fine, the insides are comfortable and laid-back, and the staff is attentive without being overbearing. I’ve only been once, but I’d love to go back again.

I’ve eaten here a number of times over the years so this is not a 1 shot deal. The 3 star rating is combined for(facility-3, service-4.5, location-3, price –2.5, and food quality-2). Nothing was bad but nothing was or has been special any time I’ve patronized here. There is nothing any better than 1 can get at Olive Garden. In a number of cases/selections, Olive Garden is better. The food just isn’t special nor authentic Italian(not even authentic Americanized Italian)…I think they used canned and processed ingredients. The cannoli was quite tasty but @ $ 3.25, ehh. The $ 5.65 price of a slice of Italian rum cake is way overpriced, but hey I paid it. I received consistent quality service each time even on to go orders, like today, that I most often get. Better for lunch considering the price to taste ratio but don’t expect anything special.

Joseph’s is an all-time favorite. Hands-down the best marinara anywhere: tangy tomato flavor, chunks of squash & carrot, not at all sweet just bursting with rich flavor. Huge portions and obviously fresh ingredients make for a winner every time. Servers remember your name and usual order and are friendly in a down-home way that makes you feel like a regular even if it’s been a few months since your last visit. Have kids with you? Order individual pizzas for them; the server will bring THEIR pizza and toppings out for the kids to put together and get creative with. Absolutely save room for dessert. I have only been here for dinner, never the lunch buffet, so can’t vouch for it, but absolutely, without hesitation, recommend this as the best Italian in town.

Ask for Lacey! The cannoli was awesome. The spaghetti and meatballs were massive. Have dessert first!

I am rating this night because of the pizza. We had the Joseph’s special. Crust was well done and flavorful. We also had a side of meatballs and fried eggplant. The eggplant was a bit salty, and I like lots of salt. The meatball, well that was 1 star. More like a large clump of meat. I could not detect and flavors or different meats. Will definitely pass on the meatballs. People around us had lots of pasta dishes and appeared to get large portions.

Their Cajun ranch wings are really good. Blue cheese is amazing and I don’t even like blue cheese.

We just moved to the area recently, and this is my favorite restaurant. We’ve already been there 5 times. The staff is friendly and accommodating even when they are busy. Their pizza is yummy, and the sandwiches are really good. My favorite is the pastrami, and my husband LOVES the muffuletta. Their homemade bread is the best part. The cannoli’s are just dangerous. I could eat a whole plate of them. The homemade italian salad dressing reminds me of my favorite restaurant from back home in Illinois . Whenever we want to go out and don’t know where to go, this is our favorite place.

I have to say this is my favorite pizza place in all of Jacksonville. The food is great, the service is great, but its the atmosphere that makes it so special! Like others have said, if you were to drive by and not know what’s inside, you’d probably pass it by. When you walk in, you notice the old photos on the wall an old newspaper clipping of the owner/founder. Then you see the display case of traditional Italian desserts. The waitresses have always been nice and have a «good people» feel about them. They make you feel welcome. The menu has so much to offer, and now even features gluten free pasta and crust made to order! I was so surprised to see it available on their menu, since they’ve been around for what seems like forever, serving made from scratch Italian! The pizza crust is delicious! When I visit home, I always request a meal at Joseph’s!

This is the original Joseph’s location and has been here for over thirty years. From the outside this place is very unassuming and unpretentious. You might just pass it by, oblivious to the outstanding quality and service inside. For those in the know it seems to be a very popular local hang out. I ate here twice on my recent visit to Jacksonville and was very impressed. The quality of the pizza dough and all the pastry items is superior. On my first visit I had the Tivoli pizza which has broccoli and chicken on it. It was fantastic. My second visit I was feeling very veg so I had the vegetarian lasagne. Both visits I had a few two dollar Amber Bock draft beers and took advantage of the current four square check in for free Zeppoles. I also was fortunate to sample the Backlava on my last visit which was outstanding. It looks like they do a great take out business and have several bakery items to take out as well. I would recommend this place if you find yourself on the North Side sometime or near their other location which I hear has the same menu. The waitresses are really fun and polite too. The food comes pretty quickly but they do make the pizzas from scratch to order so order one immediately if that is what you want. What a great place!
