Let it first be known that I am not the typical MacMurray student that came to this school right after High School. However, I have been to other educational institutions big and small, some out of state and feel that I have a good frame of reference for evaluating MacMurray. Most students who come here are from the midwest and may not appreciate what I value from attending a small college with history and tradition. These are things that I love about Mac… 1. The students are friendly and laid back. 2. There are a limited amount of Majors so you are directed in a fool proof path to your degree. 3. You are given a counselor and a mentor to make sure you stay on that path 4. There is ample parking(If you have gone to school in large cities, you really appreciate this!) 5. Most of the professors have Doctorate degrees and are specially picked rather than just filling open positions due to need 6. It is an inviting, peaceful campus My major is Nursing and I know my degree will take me far. Of the different schools I have attended, MacMurray will always be the one I think back on with fond memories and the establishment of long lasting relationships of students and faculty.

As a student, MacMurray was awesome. As a staff member, I love this place. All of my friends are here!

Really? No love for Mac? Huh. I graduated from Mac and loved almost every moment I was there. The professors in the English department are unmatched. The theatre department was great – small, but great – until it was shut down. Now, the school is a different place. From what I can tell, they’re scaring out their dedicated, favored professors and staff members and they’ve got a revolving door of teachers now. The administration hasn’t cleaned house like it should have, and the college isn’t as financially stable as it was when I was there, and it wasn’t financially stable then! Part of what made Mac great was the kitsch. The professors stayed for a reason, and it wasn’t for the pay and benefits, I can tell you that. They loved their jobs and their students and the college. Now, a mere handful of them remain. So much has changed and it hasn’t been for the better. Mac needs to get back to loving itself. A small, liberal arts college in the midwest is a dime a dozen, but Mac was special. Once Mac gets back to its roots, things will improve.
