Well one of my favorite places to eat for years lost me forever as a customer today, since I’ve moved to the Westside over a year ago I still make the trip to the Northside to eat at a place I’ve always enjoyed, today was my second time this week, I’ve been going through radiation treatments of the head and neck area which makes it super difficult to swallow not to mention I had to have all my teeth pulled, usually they have entrees that are tender enough for me to eat Monday the meatloaf wasn’t so tender so I didn’t want to try to order that again and the fried chicken is just out of the question. I got there right at closing time and the options were limited which I didn’t mind at all, I asked the young lady taking orders could I order a veggie plate basically with the two veggies for sides and extra rice and gravy in place of the meat, the lady curtly and rudely told me I could either order three sides which was a little cheaper as long as I didn’t want the cornbread also or order the dinners like they were on the menu, I was both shocked and speechless, then she felt the need to add to either take it as she sells it or leave it she didn’t care, I have never had anyone here ever act or be rude like she was, even after this I still paid for the dinner and the three side dishes when I tried to tip her $ 3 on a $ 9 and some change ticket she told me to keep my money she didn’t need it. I can’t count the times in the past that I’d shown up at closing and they’d pack your plate to get rid of the rest of that day’s food, as a matter of fact the first time I ate there that is exactly what happened and when I felt how heavy the bag was I was like wow that’s a lot of food and the woman said you got lucky it’s closing time so we just filled it up to get rid of the rest of what was there, laughed and smiled and said you got the lotto plates today. From the combination of the food, the prices, and the super friendly service I had been hooked and a loyal customer for years, that all ended for me today. For now on I’ll just spend my money and take my business on the side of town I live on and take that young lady’s advice and leave it. I only picked a star so I could post this otherwise I’d left them empty, no stars.

This is more of an eatery than a produce store. Their claim to fame is $ 5 soul food meals which they make good on. The menu is expansive for such a small spot. $ 5 selections include baked & fried chicken, meatloaf, turkey wing, bbq ribs, fish, pork chops and collards, field peas, potato salad, yams, okra & tomatoes, and mac & cheese as sides. For $ 6.50 oxtails are available. Overall the food is a bit better than ok though it hasn’t always made the cut. I have had nearly everything on the menu. The service is sketchy at times, depending on who takes your order but in any event they usually produce orders quickly. Did I mention they have $ 5 soul food meal? :) There is no inside seating or ordering… all that is done outside; however they do have a cover and tables and benches outside. It suffices for a quick stop to get a hot, fresh and often tasty meal. Oh, desserts are available also. It’s hard to beat a $ 5 soul food meal so that alone is reason enough to give them a try.
