Philip Sushi

This place is now closed for a Vietnamese place. I’m bummed because this was my favorite sushi place!

wanted to try this place out after reading great reviews here on Unilocal.Got there and they were out of business… just an fyi so others aren’t faced with this disappointment

This place was GREAT! What a find, in a shopping mall. (When I was a kid, most enclosed malls had one «fancy» restaurant, but that trend died out years ago. It’s good to see a nice restaurant so one has more choice than just a food court or other generic chain places.)
We arrived as soon as they opened but it filled up fast. Some booths were dark as other reviewers mentioned, but we found some that were very nicely lit.
All 3 of us ordered bento boxes with sushi as the entrée, and it was worth it. The clear soup was a bit different than other places (beef broth based perhaps, instead of chicken?) but very delicious. All of the sushi was generous in size and tasty, as was the spring roll and fried rice. The little seaweed salad was a wonderful treat.
I recommend this place if you go to the mall and would like a nice place to sit, relax, and have a good quality meal.

Very good. Clean environment and good food. We were skeptical of mall sushi, but we’re glad we tried it. The food was excellent, and so was the service. We had a variety of sushi rolls and the clear soup. Fantastic! The special of buy-​three-​get-​one-​free rolls made it feel like we got a great deal. We’ll be back!

It was very elegant and the authenticity of the place brought you to Asia. The portions were well thought out and very filling. They were hospitable and very organized. I especially loved their selection of sushi and the salads though not as long as most are very flavorfully thought out. The small restraunt is very well done they even have the bar out so you can watch then make the sushi. And the prices in a decent range. Loved the bento box meal, had dozens of combinations to choose from.

This place is definitely dark but it was probably because of where we sat ourselves, which was closer to the front entrance. I’m sure if we would of went a little further back towards the sushi bar we would of had adequate lighting.
As for the service and food? It was spot on! I’ve been avoiding this place because it’s attached to the Orange Park mall and it’s a pain to find a parking here especially when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to park my truck really far away and walk.
They were running a «buy 3 get 1 free» deal so my wife went for that and a clear soup while I decided to go for a Bento box since I wasn’t really sure what I wanted. Everything came out with a little bit of time and we really enjoyed our meal. Our drinks stayed full considering our server was also the person at the front desk.
The meal was cheaper than expected and we even had a good amount of leftovers. We will be returning here for our next sushi craving.

They serve very delicious sushi. i always get buy 3 get 4^th one free deal which is very reasonable
costs about 15 $$ and it is pretty filling and you have a chance to get variety of sushi. you better give it a try. It is separate from the orange park mall so it doesn’t taste like mall food.

Great sushi place, the selection is good and the sushi is very delicious. It does take a little while to prepare the sushi, but if you have time its well worth the wait.

The reviews on this place is what brought me in but it’s too highly recommended for what it is. I gave it two stars for these reasons… was looking forward to wonton soup and highly disappointed when told no they don’t have it! Spicy steak lo mein was tasty. The sushi rolls were good but nothing to brag about. Didn’t like how the owners kids were walking around in the back where they prep the sushi. Once I’ve tried it now I’ll be looking for a better place.

Came here to see what the review was all about… Coming from CA, people made it sound like this is the place to go. So, I came here.
First of all, it was dark for a lunch time. Needed more light. It’s a sushi restaurant. Turn on the lights.
So ordered a couple of rolls, typical chicken teriyaki, and fried shrimp tempura. The rolls were a little blah. They were not rolled tightly, so some if not all loosen up quickly. In which, they fell apart. The chicken teriyaki was ok. There was few chicken a lot of vegetables for $ 10.
I wouldn’t come back here again. Only way I would come back, the convenience… that’s it.

I forgot to mention. I don’t know who kid it was (if it was the owner’s kid or one of the worker’s kid) but there was a kid who was loud as hell while eating. Kid whined, screemed, yelled, shouted… wasn’t that pleasant to eat.

Appearances can be deceiving. I hardly ever go to mall restaurants due to their poor quality and crowds. I’m glad I made this exception. This is one of Orange Park’s hidden gems.
Parking can be a bit tricky, but that is to be expected. After all, it is in a mall. The décor is of one of a high end restaurant. The service was fenomenal. To sample their selection, I has one of each their sushi categories. To my surprise, they had a «buy 3, get one for free» offer (of course, when you order, make sure you order the second to the most expensive item last. They will give you the 4^th item for free, irregardless for price). All of the plates did not disappoint.
I would recommend to anyone in search of some good sushi that does not want a Japanese Steakhouse.

In all candor, I’m not sure how Philip garnered such glowing reviews as it has here. Yes, for a sushi restaurant in a mall that itself has seen better days it’s alright certainly. The interior is pretty nice and the owners appear to be very invested in offering a quality experience. However, I didn’t find the sushi exceptional. Now, I have to explain I eat a great deal of sushi, I’ve had some very high-​end sushi, and I know a good amount about sushi, so I’m informed but also may be a lot more picky than most people. That said, I just found the sushi to be ok but not in any sense exceptional. A yellowtail roll with jalapeños was pretty good but the peppers overpowered the fish; I’ve seen the same approach done much better with shrimp tempura and jalapeños instead of the mild yellowtail. The Philly roll was also ok but seemed a little lacking on flavor and too much cream cheese as well. The service – especially the time involved in preparing my modest plate of sushi for lunch – was slow and they were not very busy later in the lunchtime hours when I was there, either.
Would I eat here again? Yes, if in the area or certainly if at the mall for some reason. But I wouldn’t bother stopping by just to eat here, either. It’s obviously a dependable place for sushi and that’s nice for people who frequent this mall, but it’s not in my opinion the exceptional, unexpected, gem some reviewers have found it to be, either.

My go to sushi place hands down!!! Great sushi for great prices. I’m never disappointed with them.

Clean restaurant with exceptional service. I highly recommend that if you are in the area and are looking for great sushi come here. Don’t be hesitant all because it is at the mall. Trust me this is not mall food by any means!

Don’t be shy because this is located at the Orange Park mall. This is not mall food!
Really great sushi. I really like some of their specialty rolls on the menu like Under the Moon.
The clear soup that I had was really good too really flavorful without having to add salt or sho-​u to give more flavor. The waitress I had was great too she made sure my coke was full and we got our food in a timely matter.
If your in Orange Park or this side of the Buckman bridge come here. Oishi Sushi down the street is terrible compared to this place.

From someone who was raised in Japan and lived on sushi almost 5 – 6 nights a week lol this place is great! Fresh fish! Loves the Kani salad rolls, came as a new twist, but still delicious! Very clean place and decently priced! Very nice staff, we needed up taking a little longer to eat our food and instead of being rude because it was after closing time they seemed like they had all the time in the world! Very awesome all the way around

Clean restaurant with great service and delicious sushi. Must try the godzilla roll! Get deals. Buy any 3 rolls and get the fourth for free.

It is interesting to have such a good sushi restaurant in a mall, but I have eaten here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant!

At first, I was a little hesitant and doubtful of this place. Seriously though… How good could a sushi place be that is attached to the mall and called «Philip Sushi»? Oh how I was mistaken! The presentation of their sushi rolls are done very well. I have also had their chicken hibachi which was delicious. The Kani salad is some of the best that I have had. I Just wish the portion for the Kani salad was a little bigger. I have been here about 3 times and have yet to be disappointed !
As far as prices, everything that I have ordered has been pretty reasonable. They also have specials for sushi rolls which is a great deal.
