Tried the food truck awhile ago at the food truck championship in 2015 and I wasn’t that impressed with it. This place gets a lot of hype, but it didn’t live up to it in my opinion. I had the mac & cheese melt and the mac just seem a little hard and cold. I love cheese and eat a lot of it, but the cheese just wasn’t what you’d think it would be on a grilled cheese sandwich. Which it should of came with copious amounts of smothered gooey cheese melted over everything. The latter just wasn’t there for this. Maybe it was because they had to serve hundreds of people in a small amount of time and service and quality suffered. Overall I was pretty bummed with it. I’ll give it another chance later down the road to redeem themselves.

Bland and tasteless overpriced mac & cheese with crock pot pulled pork. Very disappointed with all the hype

Oh Happy Grilled Cheese. i was finally able to get onboard with your amazingness. it was the food truck rally at the landing. and as soon as my friend and i walked in, we saw it. i was so excited. the line was long but moved pretty quickly. i got the Daddy of the Mac and it was WORTH every minute of the wait. perfectly grilled bread, gooey cheese, mac and cheese and pulled pork. i ate it almost as if it were the last meal i was ever going to eat. there are so many more things i want to try on the menu, and ive been told the building location will be open by the end of this year and i wont have to hunt them down!

Oh man! Where has this food truck been all my life? Someone told me about it and I just had to try. I got the Mac melt(cheese, grilled onions, and Mac and cheese). OMG! It was amazing! It was so gooey and cheesy. The bread was flavorful and toasty. Out of this world! Definitely coming back!

If you are going to specialize in grilled cheese sandwiches, one of the easiest things to make on your own, you better have a damn good grilled cheese. My sandwich was soggy, unseasoned, and uninspired. Will not be back.

Been here a few times and I don’t get it. $ 8 for 2 pieces of wonder bread and some cold cheese. The bread on a grilled cheese is supposed to be toasted from the grill, theirs was soggy as could be. They are just bland, soggy overpriced cheese sandwiches. I’ve had better grilled cheeses at bars.

This is my first food truck experience. At the location at Gate and Southside, they have some benches and a cooler for cold water and Pepsi and diet Pepsi priced reasonably at one dollar. The sandwiches are priced pretty well with a nice range for meat eaters and those who want it light. I liked the apple swiss with chunks of green apple sized for an easy bite each time. My husband tried the Mac, which was intriguing but it took several bites to find the grilled onion which made it much better. Their homemade tomato soup is pretty good but a but heavy on some woody herb, maybe terragon or rosemary; a bowl is four but you can get a small dip cup for a buck. Service was friendly and very fast. They gained a star for creative coverage of a classic, but lost it again because it just didn’t satisfy. I are what must be a fine number if calories but am still hungry because the sandwich was small and their side if ruffles chips did not appeal. If they come up with more amazing sides they will win a higher rating from me. I would go back if convenient to try other menu items.

Excited to try the HGC for the first time and while the menu was great looking, the two sandwiches we bought were a little… meh. Don’t get me wrong, the concepts of the sandwiches are great but the taste and quality are underwhelming. We had the veggie sandwich and a sandwich(which I can’t find on their online menu) which had mac and cheese and brisket. My main beef with HGC is the bread(think 4×4 white bread slices) and the cheese. The american cheese is nothing more than the little yellow slices you buy in 50 packs. Would I mind paying $ 3 – 4 for this? No. The issue is that it’s not great quality to pay $ 6 – 7 for this. That is all…

Kinda bummed. Based on the reviews and I don’t eat carbs 6 days a wk I made today my free day so I could b in carb heaven. Unfortunately it was not what I was hoping. I got the Mac daddy. My Mac n cheese was tasteless and no cheese on it. The pork was just ok. For a grilled cheese w Mac n cheese I thought I’d be flooded w ooey gooey cheese goodness but it was a fail. Wasted carbs = sad fat dieting girl.

I’m new to the food truck scene and was introduced to them in college when one started to set up shop on Old Dominion’s campus — I was instantly hooked at these mobile restaurants. I tried The Happy Grilled Cheese when they came to GAAM in Jax. The line may have been long, but totally worth the wait. Since I hadn’t eaten all day and had already downed 3 free beers from Aardwolf I REALLY needed some food. I got their Daddy of Mac Melt which featured pulled pork and mac n cheese in it — forget acting like a lady to eat this thing… I wolfed it down. Their sweet potato fries were awesome as well! I hope to run into them again to try more of their menu :)

So I was on my way to check out a café & bakery and when I got there, they were closed. Bummer. So checking with Jax Truckies on Facebook, I saw that Happy Grilled Cheese was nearby my office building. I knew I should’ve went there instead. They come out over by my job about once a month. I usually get the Blue Collar Melt which has fried bologna. What a throwback to my childhood. This time I decided to try something else so I got the Mac Melt: American & Cheddar Cheese, Mac & Cheese, and Grilled Onions and it was very good. This time around they were out of their tomato soup(really people? stop being greedy lol) so I had nothing to dip in it but nonetheless it was fine by itself. I can’t wait until they move into 5 points. Best of luck to them!

After following along with Jax Truckies about Happy Grilled Cheese, I was happy to finally be able to try them at Aardwolf. I had their sandwich with pimento cheese, jalapenos and avocados, with a side of fries. The experience was highly improved with the addition of some tasty Aardwolf beer. The service was decent. I got my sandwich pretty quickly, and it was correct. The sandwich itself was ok. It wasn’t the best sandwich in the world. It would have been better with a higher quality of bread and cheese. The construction of the sandwich and the execution were fine though.

One of the best food trucks in Jax, a must eat. Plenty of variety here some very innovative sandwiches. Today I got the OMG Melt, which was 3 types of cheese, Mac n cheese and bacon with fried cheese sticks. Let that sink in for a minute…

I’m probably going to name my firstborn ‘Happy Grilled Cheese’ in honour of this food truck. They visit our office locale every other Tuesday and each time I’ve tried them I’ve been impressed. The sandwiches are huge, the menu combinations are fantastic and at the end of the day, it’s a fancy grilled cheese sandwich, you really can’t go wrong. I’ve shared and hustled bites of almost every sandwich on their menu as everyone in the office has been keen to sample everything and share the love. Although you can spend hours drooling over their online menu, on the day you visit them you’re better off looking at their menu board up outside the truck to see what your options are. They always set up tables and chairs outside, so you can either buy and run or buy and sit down to enjoy your sandwich. Their homemade Tomato Soup($ 4 bowl or $ 1 dipping portion) is excellent and a perfect partner to your grilled cheese sandwich, their fries are always good and their homemade chips are huge and delicious(fries & chips $ 2 each). The top office HGC favourites currently stand as: Daddy of the Mac: American Cheddar, Mac & Cheese, Pulled Pork and Grilled Onion($ 7) Porky the Melt: American Cheddar, Bacon, Ham, Pulled Pork, Grilled Onion and Tomato($ 8) Crunch Melt: Americann Cheddar, Mac & Cheese, Bacon, BBQ Chips, Grilled Onions and a splash of Tomato Soup($ 7) Southern Belle Melt: Pimento Cheese, Tomato, Advocado, Grilled Onions and Jalapenos($ 6) However, having worked my way through most of their menu after hustling and cajoling bites from everyone else, I’m burned out by the sheer amount of options available. My favourite HGC option remains the slightly Frankensteinesque Happy Melt, which starts off as a simple American Cheddar on your choice of bread and allows you to add on anything your heart desires(from their list of add-ons) to create the cheesy Monster of your dreams: in my case, I simply add raw onion and bacon to tick off my love of crunch, flavour and contrast. Their prices are excellent for the portion size you get, the menu is varied and offers some great variations on the home comfort of a Grilled Cheese sandwich and I heartily recommend making the effort to find your nearest Happy Grilled Cheese truck location and enjoying their food.

I am giving them 4 stars because they got my order wrong, and since we took it home and you can’t see the food in the foil I didn’t realize until we got home. We ordered sandwiches(cheesesteak with TONS of meat) horray, but it was to be without onions and instead peppers. Well they had onions and only one had peppers. And these were for my kids. I bought 4 sandwiches and paid 27 $ which is in my opinion was really good considering the quality of ingredients. I mean I can pay that much for crap subway! I really loved my sandwich and I LOVED the variety of choices! We will be back we will just check our order before we go or ear there! Btw they put out table and chairs to enjoy your meal!

What the heck is wrong with me?! It’s crazy to think that a year ago at One Spark I was first in line at this truck. Now, a year gone by and only the 2nd time I’ve eaten here and again, first in line(whoop!). Their toasted breads with cheesy fillings have only gotten better! I got the veggie melt because the tomato and pesto sounded amazing, but it wasn’t «full» enough for me so I asked to stuff it with mac ‘n cheese and my dreams came true! WAYTOGO, GUYS! Keep it up!

The was my first time(FINALLY) trying the Happy Grilled Cheese and they made me a happy Christine :) I rolled up on the bright orange and white truck at 1:30, half hour before closing, on Sunday afternoon and there were about five or six other groups(couples, small families, friends) there waiting in line or at the tables for their food, or in line ordering. I scanned the menu while snapping some pikshas of the truck and whatnot, and decided on the California melt: turkey, bacon, tomato, avocado, american, and cheddar, with a «dip bowl» of tomato bisque, all to-go(it was hot out!). The girl running the window was nice and prompt with service and imforming me of items they ran out of throughout the day. Be warned… they need the generator and it’s very loud! The price [$ 8 for the melt($ 7) and dip bowl of tomato bisque($ 1)] was very reasonable for what I got. The bread is thick and toasty, all of the ingredients seemed fresh(even the avocado) and the cheese was melty good. The tomato bisque was light, fresh, savory, and HOT! Even when I got home(as with the sammie). My only complaint… the Cali melt comes with turkey, but upon closer examination when I got home, visually and gusgutorially, it was ham. This isn’t a problem for me as I don’t have special diet needs and I appreciate veggies and animal protein equally, but even though it comes with bacon I’m sure someone(say, someone who CAN’T eat pork products, or rather just doesn’t like pork, they’re both out there) would be able to ask for that sandwich, turkey based, without bacon because the rest is yummy… it’s just false advertising. I will return without a doubt. I love that they’re always at Beach and San Pablo on Sundays(«Sunday Funday»). That’s the parking lot of my church, and it’s super close. They also frequent LA Fitness/Academy at Kernan and Atlantic, which is even closer to me :)

I’ve been stalking these guys forever on Twitter wondering when our paths would finally cross allowing my to indulge in one of my favorite things: the grilled cheese sandwich. Maria von Trapp may like schnitzel with noodles, but when the bee stings, I dream about grilled cheese sandwiches. And I’m an equal opportunity lover: american, cheddar, goat, savory, sweet, tomato, bacon, avocado, grilled onions, whatever you want to put on it, I’m probably willing to try it. Finally ran into them at the Fall Food Truck Rally at the Landing. Considering we were going to be feasting on several offerings that day, I had to be a little restrained in my ordering. And since I was sharing with my husband, I had to pass on the mac & cheese grilled cheese. We went for the American with bacon & tomato. Good toast on the bread, cheese was melted nicely. All in all, a well done sandwich. To quote Phil from Duck Dynasty, I was happy, happy, happy. I will be back.

Hooray I finally got to try this awesome food truck and I am SOOO glad we did! We all ordered the Crunch Melt(Mac&Cheese, cheddar, bacon, potato chips, tomato soup, onion — $ 7). Such a crazy and ridiculous combination with flavors that complemented each other and blended nicely in the end. If you decide to eat there, they have covered seating where you can enjoy your food. The particular day we went there, there was a cupcake truck sharing that same spot. Teamwork is delicious! There were other interesting combinations, as well. So I’d love to try them all. The Happy Grilled Cheese is a must-eat! Made my tummy happy. =)

I just returned from the Happy Grilled Cheese Truck and I am really Happy Happy happy. I had the Crunchy Grilled Cheese and it was delish. A boat load of cheese, bacon and onions with some cheese puffs thrown in. Then I remembered that their fryer was down. Oh well it was really good anyway. Then I get a text from the wife and she sees that I’m at the Happy Grilled Cheese Truck and she NOT happy happy happy. So being the good husband I shoot a pic of the menu and say what do you want? Now the grilled cheese truck is Happy Happy happy. So she wanted the Daddy of the Mac and you will have to wait for the review on that but I can probably think that she will love it too.
