Great store. Sloooow service. Sandwiches shouldn’t take 30 mins to make. They’re really good though.

Better bring your wallet — more expensive than Whole Food! With the first store in the heart of JP, one could understand why prices at a «hippy» Store 24 would be high. Still, bulk coffee and Iggy’s bread was the same price, or lower than the big chains. When they opened the bigger store up on Centre Street, I expected prices to lower because now they could order food in larger bulk qualities, take advantage of the better wholesale pricing and actually lower prices across the board in both stores. But I was wrong. Way wrong. And I’m not going to spend $ 7 on a pint of ice cream that is typically $ 5, or as low as $ 3 when on sale.

I come here all the time simply due to the fact it’s close. They need some serious work on their customer service. On multiple occasions the employees have been visibly high and smelled like weed. The service is excruciatingly slow, 20 min for a sandwich! Also, echoing a lot of other folks on here, PLEASE drop the attitude.

Nice little outpost in JP. I went in to grab an early morning sandwich as a lunch before an all-day class and much to my surprise the deli was open and willing to make me a Prosciutto sandwich. The basil in the sandwich blunts the saltiness of the meat(which trust me, if you’re not used to it, can be a kick) and gives it some more flavor. It has some great organic food and their bagels were a nice respite from early morning doldrums. Definitely a great find and will be coming back.

Fabulous lattes. I’ve heard the groceries are expensive, but I can only speak to the espresso, and it’s great.

My apologies– my prior review was for the City Feed on Centre Street which definitely prefer to this location. The one on Boylston is the original. I went there for the first time today, And I have to say that they need to work on a few things: 1– employees, not the most polite. Not rude at all, but absolutely not pleasant. Sorta got a snobby, slow, I’m too good for you vibe going on. And for such a tiny place– they should know that this does not go unnoticed. 2– cleanliness, I know that this one is older, but it needs to be cleaned up a bit. Smells sorta funky and is dingy. For what they’re charging for sandwiches– there’s no excuse for that. 3– don’t offer hot or pressed sandwiches. Kinda stinks. I am used to the Centre Street one so when I asked to modify my sandwich the guy rolled his eyes at me.

LOVE City Feed! As a long-time JP Resident this place is a gem in the heart of a great neighborhood. The coffee is the BEST around, and definitely try their pastries and sandwiches — always fresh, always flavorful.

The best thing about City Feed is the location — they’re so close! As a local I want them to be successful. The sandwiches are very good — lots of meat and cheese and tasty. The smoked turkey, roast beef and gobbler are all very good. The coffee and pastries are very good as well. Yes the service could be better — they move at their own pace. I think they really just want to ring up groceries and get put off when someone actually orders a sandwich! And the sandwiches are thrown together — I pretty much have to reassemble mine when I get home. So a couple of things to work on.

Their coffee is like gasoline… in a good way. It’ll get you zipped up for the morning. However, the employees are less than pleasant. They move so slowly and act in a snobby manner. I’ve said thank you multiple times as I’ve left and heard nothing in response and even had someone get visibly annoyed when I asked for more ice in my iced coffee. I’m close by and want to give them money, I just wish they’d put a little more care into what they do.

I live around the corner, so I’ve been coming here for a while and the quality of service and sandwhiches have plummeted. Everyone is nice that works there but they all seem oblivious and spacey. It just took me 10 minutes to get a bagel and cream cheese with no line. I believe it’s due to new employees everytime I stop in and they can never get a handle on how thinga should be done. A couple weeks ago I got the gobbler special sandwhich. When I took it home and opened it, I laughed at how poorly everything about it was. It’s a sandwhich people!!! Plus it was over priced. City Feed, get your business together!

Twenty minutes to toast and cream cheese two bagels. There was no line when we ordered.

I’ve never shopped for groceries here because the prices are hilarious, but I sometimes stop in for a sandwich. Usually it’s against my will because I can’t bear the crazy slow service. At a non-peak time, it can take them 20 minutes to make a PB&J sandwich. The food is just not good enough for this. They get an extra star because their breakfast sandwiches really are the best I’ve tried on Centre Street(if you exclude brunch at Vee Vee).

I live around the block, and while I applaud City Feed for local and organic efforts, and also having an ample supply of $ 17 Night Shift beers(also local), their customer service is horrendous. As other have indicated below it is as if no one is providing any oversight to the store employees. It is not unusual to stand in line for 10 to 15 minutes to make a purchase while only one employee works the register(sort of), and about 4 others move back and forth behind the counter. I am successful at making purchases in this store about once out of every 4 visits. The other three I usually leave because I have stood in a line for 10 minutes that does not seem to move. I have had faster service at the DMV and at the Post Office, and that is saying something. So, if you have nothing but time to kill this, or if you plan on getting your daily 15 minutes of meditation done while waiting to locate someone to pay for your items, you will love this little bastion of inefficiency.

Really expensive and slow service. Maybe the coffee and sandwiches are great, but if you are looking for stuff in the aisles it’s a disappointment.

In essence, the Farmer’s Lunch is a ploughman’s lunch, except everything is betwixt the bread instead of next to it. Actually, it has two things lacking from most ploughman’s lunches: one piece of lettuce and a thin layer of pickled green tomatoes. The latter being one of the best things about this sandwich, and the former being a «why bother?» addition. It’s a good sandwich. It’s also a pricey sandwich at near $ 9 for essentially what you can make at home with a few slices of apple, cheddar cheese, and some bread. It’s in no way inventive or all that unique(except for that pickled tomato). There’s also a higher bread to filling ratio than there should be. Again, it’s a tasty sucker, but I would never get it again because I can make it at home in the same amount of time for almost 1⁄10th of the price. Maybe their other stuff is worth it.

This is the original City Feed, and still the best. It’s small and navigable with super fresh produce, the most delicious sandwiches in Boston, and snack food for any midnight munchies you might develop. The Deluxe Italian is, simply put, my favorite sandwich in the universe, and let me tell you, I love sandwiches. I used to live around the corner from City Feed, which was conveniently located on my walk home from the T, and I probably ate 5 Italians a week. No joke, it’s that good. Be sure to ask for extra hot pepper relish.

I love this market and visit it quite often for my weekly need of eggs, non-dairy milk, snacks, fresh greens, etc. Excellent local goods. City Feed is great for a casual lunch. They have welcoming employees. They are taking time with your food so sometimes you may have to wait, as it’s not McDonalds– Yay! I recommend attending tastings such as wine and beer Tuesdays and Thursdays at the location on Centre St. I discovered an excellent fall beer from Maine. My guests at home love it. Wish every neighborhood had something like this.

It’s very cute and the location couldn’t be more convenient for us. We frequently order sandwiches over the phone which is a nice service. However, I find the staff to be hit or miss in terms of friendliness. Of course, I feel that way about pretty much all waitstaff in the city of Boston, but that’s another story. Anyway, I wish their selection of sandwiches was a little more wide-ranging. What they have is good so I guess specializing has its upside. The coffee is decent here as well. Nothing that’s going to blow your socks off. I definitely enjoy the neighborhood vibe; I just wish it was a touch less pretentious in general.

City Feed is every bad stereotype people have about the local, organic food movement: Overpriced, cramped, weird, and hipster. The reason I give this place such a low rating is the prices on EVERYTHING! If you thought Whole Foods was expensive, think again. Plus the whole key to use the bathroom thing ALWAYS turns me off. This place is in the middle of a gay neighborhood(not that there’s anything wrong with that). You have to say that line in a Seinfeld tone, other wise you don’t get it and I am sorry if you thought I was serious. I just wanted coffee and people were just hovering around and would not move because they were talking about mundane events happening in their lives. Just give me me decaf and leave me be!
