I went to the 1 located in Brookline. This place is quite dirty and really very overpriced. For this quality and this price, I would rather go to JP Licks for better portion and taste

Mmmmm… Emack & Bolio’s!!! LOVE!!! So good. I especially love their frappes. Nice interior too… many ice cream places don’t have much seating, but this is a place you can leisurely enjoy a nice scoop and hang out with friends.

This place is closed! This is a real shame since this was a great coffee and hang out place. The sign on the door says that The Real Deal deli is coming soon.

Went here for the first time today. My review is only worth so much, because I walked in, ordered 2 café mochas, and left. It was a bit pricey(~$ 9) but as I stood waiting I thought that it seemed a very relaxed and comfortable place to hang out with a laptop, book, or whatever you hang out with. Nice mellow vibe without being canned like Starbucks. It was almost empty as well, so the sparsity of people may have helped things seem comfy. Im not sure.

As an ice cream snob, I like Emack’s the best of the major Boston parlors(I find Toscanini’s ice cream too creamy and often served too warm+melty; Lizzie’s in Harvard Square is oversweetened.) They do ice cream, sherbet, and sorbet equally well; JP licks almost always falls flat with their sherbet(no idea why.) Prices for the ice cream are on par with JP Licks, far as I can remember, but I could be wrong. The outlets used to be «broken»(switched off to keep people from lounging around all day on their laptops; I can sympathize, as I hate the one-cup-entitles-me-to-an-office-for-the-day leeches), now they’re «fixed». FYI, the wifi is free– all the comments about it being for-charge are wrong, as they haven’t charged for wifi since they reopened.

Love it! Pretty comfy atmosphere, WiFi, super-friendly staff, and great ice-cream. Only a few steps from where I live this is a cool place to hang out and read. One star off though for the prices and the fact they only have paper cups.

This used to be my favorite place to work and drink tea and have the occasional extra thick frappé. I liked the place so much that I would drive more than thirty minutes for a good work environment. But that changed when they started charging for wi-fi. Unlike other cafes closer to the city, E&B was rarely crowded. Thus, I didn’t feel that people who came for the wi-fi were taking up too much room, as long as they bought something.

i absolutely love it here. a short walk from my house… but enough of a walk to be like«hey i walked all the way here, a little ice cream won’t hurt!» okay, so i kind of grumble at the prices, but i pay it anyway because the ice cream is basically amazing… the flavors are rich, pure, and unique. i’m always very happy after eating a small(really not that terribly small) cup of any flavor. and different kinds pop out at me each time i go in there… such a variety to choose from. the employees are uncommonly pleasant and helpful. as far as people doing work/reading/computer stuff there… i think it’s cool… just adds a little more life to the place. however, i just read a notice posted a couple days ago which stated that they would soon start charging for internet use, so who knows, maybe the number of study-bugs in there will start to decrease… 4⁄5 stars only because the prices irk me. but i guess it’s still cheaper than ben and jerry’s… i’ve never bought anything besides ice cream

This is the rare place where ambiance gets the only stars. I mean, one can overlook cramped dirty crowded spaces for great food or drink, right? But the location and light airy set up of E&B is the only thing that gets stars. Everything is way over-priced-I mean REALLY overpriced. The clerks are awesome-really friendly and will tell you the truth bout how somethin tastes. Its a clean establishment, good wi-fi access, near the pond and everything else. I may meet someone for tea here, but usually I go here to pick up someone finishing up schoolwork on their laptop or maybe read a lil in the sunny window chairs. People look up at you like you are in a saloon in a western frontier town(there are a shit load of regulars). I mean… do some work here. Get some tea. If you like live right there. Like next door. Thats it.

While I love JP Licks for ice cream, Emack and Bolio’s is a better place to spend some time drinking coffee and read a book or check your email. The coffee is good, the egg creams are great, and the frappes wicked thick. You don’t need a meal if you’re having one of those. Sometimes, especially on weekday afternoons, the sitting areas can be really crowded with the laptop crowd partaking of the free wi-fi — especially the prime spots near the numerous power outlets. Even though it can be crowded, it is usually almost library quiet yet exudes a productive hum that makes doing some work more fun than it might otherwise be.

I would choose this place over JP Licks in a heart beat. Sure JP licks is a home town buisness, and the rule of the ice cream world is not to step on eachother’s toes, but it’s just nicer to be in Emack & Bolio’s than JP Licks. The atmosphere is so laid back and less frantic in Emack & Bolio’s than in JP licks. You can get some coffe and ice cream and just chill in one of thier über comfy couches or chairs. The staff are always super friendly and very cool, plus you can talk to them because there’s not a line out the door. Their Key Lime Pie ice cream is sooo good with little crumbs of pie crust in it and it’s non fat! enjoy almost all of their flavors very much, including the Almond Joy if you like the candy bar you’ll love he ice cream. so if u havn’t been in then you should try it. Then again I might just like it because its on my way home from work(but probably not).

Yummmmm. Yummmm. The best ice cream. I’m serious. They make my dream ice cream– chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and fudge swirls. It’s a little pricey, but it’s worth it. And it’s good for you too. And they have comfortable places to sit. I don’t understand why it’s so big though. But who cares. The most beautiful ice cream. An Afterword– The last time I was in here, everyone was on their computers and no one was eating ice cream. It was really weird. So my friend said really loud(which seemed even louder since no one was talking) «These people are weird, let’s get out of here.» So the great vibe was broken and those people were alerted to how weird they looked.
