Historic Hyde Square

Hyde Sq is actually the intersection of Perkins St, Centre St, and Day St.
Pros:
–cheap rents
–VERY convenient public transportation (T bus 39, 41, 48, and with a few min walk, 60, 66, Orange Line, E Green Line)
–very walkable/​bike-​able
–centrally located to other great perennial venues
–ample street parking *non-​resident!!*
–lots of green space nearby
–and again CHEAP RENTS
Cons:
–some neighborhood conveniences missing (dry cleaners, coffee shops with staying power)
–large social venues/​anchors to the neighborhood have moved a few streets away (Milky Way)
–residents don’t really «curb» their dogs
–a few times I’ve had the «oh sorry, no speak English» bullcrap pulled on me by non-​English speakers who are neighborhood residents, which was obviously false
–Jackson Sq/​Bromley-​Heath area still not safest at all hours.
This neighborhood is really on the cusp of two different enclaves. Half of the neighborhood is really the JP that everyone thinks about with Centre St’s conscious and creative communities. The other half is a mix between public housing developments and immigrant communities clearly being pushed into other areas/​cities by increased costs of housing and the changing consumer preferences of the new residents. There’s also a small scattering of college students who commute to different areas for school but live here due to cost, and the convenience of buses and trains that go to many other parts of the city.
Now, whether all this is good or bad is your opinion. These are just my observations.
