Jamaica Plain Christmas Castle

Wait, did someone REALLY make an entry for this HOUSE?
Well, just to clarify for the unknowing — this place is not a business. It is not a tourist attraction. It is not an amusement park ride. It is really someone’s house. Where they live. And they decorate like crazy for Christmas.
Essentially, that is what we’re dealing with here.
Is is awesomely lit and I’m sure it’s caused a traffic situation or two over the years.
There’s even a post card at Harvest Co-​op of the JP Christmas Castle available for sale and mail to all your besties!
The castle (which the architecture resembles) is adorned in lights, blow up Santas, plastic reindeer, light-​up trees, candy canes, fences, snowmen, penguins, etc. etc. etc.
Enjoy the spectacle; it’s refreshing to see in a city that is sometimes so uptight and too worried about perfectly matching themed Christmas arrangements… boo!

I love driving by this crazy house between Thanksgiving and New Years. It’s bright and shiny and oh so beautiful! I love it.

It is beautiful, festive, amazing. But the traffic tie ups are really annoying. And the dude is selling his million dollar plus house, so say bye!

Riding back and forth to medical appointments can be boring, so you can imagine my thrill when I first saw the crown go up on this charming property. Two weeks ago, I was thrilled in the early evening rush hour traffic when I saw this blaze of lights and Christmas glory. I happened by again when Channel 7 was interviewing the owner because some lame brain city councillor decided that a police patrol should be set up. While I’m not sure I’d want to live next door to high wattage holiday extravaganza, I send a big «Thank You» to this wonderful homeowner for brightening up my holiday season!

Man, I think this guy has to be loony tunes to put up those crazy lights but it does bring me great joy driving by the «castle.»

While I have not yet seen the display, and I’m sure it is a beautiful, fun holiday fiesta, I had to knock it down a notch due to an article I read where the owner states that he will throw away all 250,000 lights after the holiday, and buy ALL NEW ONES NEXT YEAR. While the electricity that is used for this display is bad enough, not recycling the lights is a huge environmental no no.

Anyways, this is a serious light show that is worth checking out. There is this cool castle-​looking house in JP, on the Arborway between the Pond Street and Centre Street. These people really go all out. People pull over to check it out and it is a feel-​good eccentric neighborhood thing. I know people complain, I have heard all kinds of weird sentiments about it, but it is a fun spectacle. And they don’t run the lights all day and night or anything. So suck it up and let yourself enjoy it! And the kids love it, I am told.
The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because they have too many of those crappy store-​bought inflatable characters which is a little scary.

I’m sure on a foggy day when astronauts can’t spot the great wall from space, they will have no problem spotting the JP Xmas Castle — this place is completely over-​the-​top with holiday festive-​ness. Neighbors complain about the gaggle of voyers hanging out in front of the house every night, they complain about the fact that at 10:00 pm it is like noon outside in the neighborhood… but, isn’t that why the town is called «Jamaica Complain» —
I love the Christmas Castle — I break into a full on grin every evening when I pass it.
