This place is hip and a little pretentious, but the food is bomb! I love the breakfast sandwiches and strata. Actually, I like everything they have! The café cubano is also tasty. It’s also next to my gym so it is a tempting post workout snack haven.

Everything here is good. Hit them up in the morning for good coffees, their seasonal drinks(the New Orleans Iced Coffee is a great seasonal), and great food. During the week, their biscuits, strata, or popovers are well worth it. On the weekend, if you’re hungry, the biscuit breakfast is a solid dish. Think New England version of biscuits and gravy. Seating can be tricky during some hours, particularly on Saturday morning, but they have indoor and outdoor seating, and are right near the SW Corridor.

Best coffee shop in the JP area! Coffee and tea are incredible and the food is even better. Try the breakfast sandwich with bacon. Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. Also for lunch get the sweet potato sandwich– unbelievable as we. In the spring /summer they have New Orleans iced coffee which is delicious. Lots of space and tables as well although it can get crowded on weekends. Wi-fi is free. Get here ASAP!

This is a fabulous little café, and on the weekends it’s pretty busy! The downside is trying to find a seat if you’re looking to sit *in* the café. Seating is at a premium, and it’s such a great atmosphere that people work here and/or linger. There’s even a basket of games for general use while you’re there. There’s never much of a wait, even with a line several people deep. Ula is fab at getting people through line, and then concocting delicious drinks or food in what seems like super human speed! I absolutely cannot wait for *slightly* warmer weather to walk there, grab drinks & food, then leisurely walk home and enjoy our fare or popping over to the park. I highly recommend the popovers(if you’ve never had them, they’re a very light & airy eggy pastry) and the biscuits & gravy. Everything has been delicious, haven’t been disappointed yet!

I’ve been to Ula a bunch now and it has a lot going for it. No major complaints, but some aspects are consistently inconsistent. The Good: Drinks — lots of great coffee and tea options. My favorites are the New Orleans Iced Coffee or any of their rotating iced tea selections. They also have beer on tap! Popovers — eggy and airy and so good with Nutella. They make them throughout the day and getting one warm and fresh from the oven is heavenly Service — With the exception of one employee who I could tell was new and in training, the service here has always been friendly and helpful The Inconsistent: Sandwiches — I’ve had some good ones and I’ve had some awful ones here. I am a lover of breakfast sandwiches, but not theirs — spongy egg and rubbery bacon. Atmosphere — sometimes it is chill here and sometimes there are people holding meetings and children running around and nowhere to sit. I’ve been at all different times and it is fairly unpredictable. Parking is also hit or miss.

We’ve been to this place several times during our trip to Boston. Nice atmosphere, good coffee and excellent tea, the bakery-stuff is okay… Good place to start the day with an fresh orange juice and a cappuccino in an alternative atmosphere.

Ula’s is fantastic. If you’re looking for unique and tasty, you’ve found your home. And why not? You’re in JP. Get used to it. First, let’s talk about beverages. They’ve got your standard espresso bar fare plus tons of creative, delicious drinks. They brew coffee from RI and tea from Somerville. Let’s talk about that breakfast sandwich. Eggs, cheddar cheese and bacon on a briche roll. WHAT. But WAIT– the thing that ties it all together is the maple-rosemary spread they put on it. Yeah, you read that right. And I don’t even like rosemary. But there’s something about this combo that knocks it out of the park! The pastries are also delicious. Especially the Crumb Buns. Those are the holy grail. I think they’re only made on the weekends. The popovers, macarons, scones, you name it– all good. The sandwiches, surprisingly enough, I’m a little too picky for. I usually have to amend the sandwich a bit for my taste. Great place to hang for lunch and have a conversation, though the strollers can make it tough to move around the place sometimes. There’s even an outdoor patio in the warmer weather!

I’ve been going to Ula’s for years and, if you can find a seat amongst the strollers and people playing board games, it’s a nice place to relax with an amazing combo of drinks and pastries. The one reason I am leaving this review is because of their Hong Kong drink. As someone who has had this drink in Hong Kong – Ula does it remarkably well. It’s a blend of Oolong tea, coffee, lemon and condensed milk. A drink made from the heavens!

what to say. good coffee. good tea(mem, like every other joint in town). prices are more gentle than in camberville. in the brewery complex. oddball cashiers, but coffee shops are pretty good at accommodating all personalities. well-attended. free Wi-Fi from what i hear, which might be self-serve limited to accommodate folks who want to sit for a little bit and not squat all day. good open airy modern vibe. haven’t had the sandwiches or salads or any of the food, so it’s possible that the review might change accordingly. in the meantime, i’m a fan.

Met a good friend here for coffees and convos one Saturday morning. I’m not sure if you are familiar with navigating the small winding streets of Boston, if you are… you will likely be able to navigate the narrow winding catacomb of seating found at Ula. Mid-day Saturday and it was packed to the brim. While there appears to be many-a-table, the reality is that each table’s property lines abut one another(or overlap in some cases). Tables are rocky(the concrete slab is old school), there is a «Tip» Jar at the front full of rubber wedges to assist in leveling the grade. However, in winter this means boot puddles and making the«oops, ‘scuse me, pardon me» squeeze in a down jacket and«I ate too many holiday sweets» pants a bit more… familiar than one might hope for. Food…appears to be delicious(and comes highly recommended). Coffee… confirmed delightful. The service… ugh, what a mainstream question(- says every staff member I dealt with at this establishment). While Ula boasts a confident loyalty of regulars, the staff appears to be absolutely exhausted by a parishioner’s enthusiasm for the day. Still… at least they didn’t care enough to shoo us along(we had our table for an hour and a half). In the end, I suppose I would return(if I can mange to win the parking lottery twice in a row). Would this be my number one recommendation for out-of-towners? — nope.

Sunny little café at the Brewery Complex. If you’re going on the Sam Adams brewery tour, this is a great place to stop in and get some food in your stomach beforehand. Sandwiches are little pricey, but they seem to make everything fresh on the spot, and it all tastes great. Lots of people on laptops or just sitting around chatting over coffee. Nice place overall.

Pretty good. Place to sit and do work which I like. Healthy options(their homemade date bar is quite good). Decent sandwiches. Would be four-star review, except: today I received a popover which had raw dough inside. I don’t mean it was doughy. It had raw dough. Since I’m quite sure the dough has egg in it, that’s problematic and dangerous. I told them and their response was to give me another one with my old one still on the plate. My replacement, because it was from the same batch, was just as raw

Nice spot to grab a bite before or after a sam adams tour. Definitely a hippie lodge, and seating is hard to get when it is busy, so you kind of have to stalk a table to get it. Great artisan menu, and lots to choose from. I got the ham and cheese sandwich, and while it was good I would have ordered the bread toasted-so if your bread doesn’t come toasted, ask for it!

Overhyped. Overpriced. Every time i just expect so much more from this place. I’ve gone to Ula’s for about 5 years now to read, get some work done, but nothing has lived up to what people say. Their employees are very nice and it’s sometimes convenient as shown by the hoards of people there. But unless you’re getting a beverage– stay away from their sandwiches and salads.

Food and hip vibe is great here, however the laptop table campers, the job interviewers/strategy meeting squabblers, and the hoards of toddlers will make your morning breakfast unbearable — especially jammed on weekend mornings

My wife and I are big board game people, and the staff there were very helpful at suggesting games for us. We were hoping to try Dominion, as we’d heard good reviews, and the staff there were able to teach us the game in about five minutes. When we’d finished with that they taught us another four games throughout the evening, including one for a friend of ours who wasn’t as big into board games. Overall their staff are very knowledgeable and approachable. The food was good value, and quite tasty. We were there for about four hours and ended up spending less than $ 55 for the two of us(including the cover). The games we played were in good shape given the use they get, and the selection they offer is fantastic. We’ll definitely be going back again.

Tucked into the Brewery complex, Ula has a unassuming entry that might not lure you in. And that would be a shame. The food is top notch. Cookies are baked daily(try the oatmeal, cherry, pecan). The sandwiches are great, cooked on homemade bread and you can order a half which comes neatly wrapped like a tiny present. The turkey is from a real bird. There is a new soup every day, creative salads, lots of space in the back, and beer and wine should you be so inclined. The vibe is very JP. The tall red-haired young man waiting at the takeout line in front of me had a tattoo of Martin Luther King on his forearm.

Nice spot near the Sam Adams brewery to have a healthy and fresh vegetarian lunch. Three of us ordered 3 different sandwiches and shared. The overall favorite was the sweet potato sandwich. The only sandwich we didn’t really care for was the one with curry. Check it out if you’re in the area. There’s patio seating but can be close quarters if it is busy.

My go-to neighborhood café Ula has a very unique vibe. I am very glad to be walking distance from this great little café. It is located right next to the Sam Adams Brewery and spacious enough in its own sense. The establishment has a very distinct shape, I definitely got a little lost at first. Not a coffee person? Not a tea person? More of a beer person? They got that too. They have a wide range of loose leaf hot tea, iced tea, coffee/espresso, and beer on tap. All of their desserts are vegan/gluten free. I still have yet to try their sandwiches or salads but from the looks if it they are delicious! The staff is very nice and will go above and beyond for your requests, definitely one of the reasons why I will continue to come back. Make sure to bring a sweater because it gets pretty cold. There are enough outlets and seating for studying and working throughout the café but you do have to look specifically for that. I’ve been only on a Saturday and Sunday and if you go on a Sunday they have little vendors selling handmade artifacts, very nice little touch to the area!

Save your money and your time. The coffee is so so. The espresso is hit or miss… The shots pulled are so inconsistent. The foam is crucial but is often lack luster. The menu is fine I suppose but the wait for the food is entirely too long. I want so badly to like this place. But it’s just not happening for me. Maybe I’m too snobby about coffee and espresso. Or maybe I prefer friendly faces and happy hearts. This place consistently falls short on all three.

The positives first — service was good and quick, the biscotti was good, although it came sweeter than biscotti I’ve had anywhere else — sugar lovers rejoice! The curried butternut squash turnover I had was delicious. Seating seemed plentiful albeit a bit cramped(outside seating available, too). Restrooms were clean. There’s a parking lot! The cons. Maybe it was an off day but the cold brew tasted very burnt(I sampled my friend’s) and my iced almond milk latte was like a very burnt cigarette and I’m not talking charcoal taste or bitter espresso, both of which I can handle. Something was off in the preparation. I pretty much threw $ 5 into the trash(literally, the drink was undrinkable). Have a baked goodie! Scrumptious. I personally wouldn’t come back here for a coffee or espresso drink, but maybe an iced tea! 2.5 stars rounded down.

As we given our tour ticket into Sam Adams brewery(which we waited about an hour and a half for), we were disappointed to see that Sam Adams did not have an open taproom OR any food. Wait, what? Maybe I’m spoiled, thinking that one of America’s oldest breweries would have those things… Sorry, it’s never good to write reviews when hangry. Anyways, there are signs on the walls for Ula Café, and lettt me tell you it’s an adventure in itself trying to get there. Signs playfully remind you that you’re almost there, or it’s right around the corner, or just down the stairs. You finally get there and it’s basically a coffee shop/deli(Order at the counter, listen out for your name to be yelled) I used Unilocal and decided to get the sweet potato sandwich, and dear lord it was fantastic. Sweet potato and Avocado together sounds like just a bunch of puke-colored mush to me, but the taste was incredible and they complimented each other very well. I’d definitely suggest it to anybody else. Another really nice thing is that they have board games to help pass the time. I challenged the Lady to a couple rounds of games that I haven’t heard of, like Toot and Otto(Think connect 4… for 4 year olds: ) and another magnet game. Pick up something new and enjoy the all natural ambiance that this place offers. Great way to spend your pre-drinking time.

This is a cute place just around the corner from the brewery. It’s my favorite kind of coffee place, too, because it looks eclectic and attracts a diverse set of people. There’s plenty of pastry options as well as lunch choices. If you dine in and order tea, you get your personal pot, something I love. Not that I make it a point to ride the orange line, but if I did… I’d definitely find myself here a lot.

The sweet potato and avocado sandwich was very tasty and creamy and(surprisingly) worked well together. Portions were generous… you can easily pack half the sandwich to go if you are not too hungry. The New Orleans iced coffee was nothing special, however… at least it was not loaded with sugar Service was fast and friendly.

Cute café. Got a New Orleans iced coffee, friend got an iced Cold Brew coffee. We were both a little dissappointed in their coffee. Not the best nor worst, but I feel you have to judge a café hard on their coffee. Another friend got the Thai iced tea, which was tasty in its own, but didn’t taste like the legit stuff. I can’t comment on the food, but if I lived in the area, I’d probably give this café another shot. The atmosphere is nice and diverse. They even had a guy playing live music by the door which was a nice touch.

Ambience is great. Very friendly staff. Menu looked delicious. I was sad that I didn’t get to try the Fig Mozarella sandwich, since they ran out of bread, but the Fruit & Nut salad was great(lots of goat cheese) and the Cardamom iced coffee was AWESOME(totally replicating that at home). I’m definitely going back to try more of their drinks(lots of variety), their awesome looking sandwiches and pastries. I’ll probably up my rating once I go back. Plus they have outdoor seating!

This is my favorite café! I’ve been here several times to dine in or take out, and I just can’t get enough of it. The food here is great — think pastries(both sweet and savory), sandwiches(half or whole, grilled or ungrilled), and soup(think broccoli cheddar). The drinks here are awesome — think hot chocolates, coffees, iced teas, lattes, etc. — and there are specials from time to time. While you may end up spending a good chunk of money here for two people(upwards of $ 20 for food/drinks), it’s definitely worth it in my book. The sandwiches are unique as are the drinks. For example, the vegetarian sandwiches, one with sweet potato and avocado, and another with beets and fennel, are hearty and flavorful. The crumb buns on weekends are buttery, light, and just sweet enough! The hand pies are good but could use more filling. The macaron selection is decent; some are better than others(favorites include nutella, rose, and lavender). My favorite part of this place is the drink selection. I’ve had the rose latte as well as the rose hot chocolate. The hot chocolate version is definitely more decadent and wonderful! I am obsessed with it. It is creamy and smooth, and I’ve never had anything like it before. The iced teas and spicy iced hot chocolate are good as well. To find a place to sit inside can be tricky, but it really depends on what time of day you go. The designer really did a good job in placing tables and seating options in the best way possible for the space. Also, the people working here are perky and fun! There are some nice touches near the front door — different trash/recycling bins, a bucket for you to pour out«leftover coffee» if you didn’t finish your drink, and coffee add-ons like cinnamon. It’s also nice that there is a small parking lot for you to try your luck in finding a spot. Bottom line: this café is super cute for a quality snack, meal, and/or drink. There are so many options, that you can’t get tired of visiting!
