I visited AB after hearing high praises about the vegetarian cuisine. My Godparents raved about the food. After my 1st visit I now understand the hype. Annam is the sister to the local vegan café Panorama of My Heart located just north on Parsons. This location is very eye catching because of the chic light blue paint and alluring window display. I was not expecting Panorama Part II when I entered the restaurant and had no idea they were related having not done my homework. The vibe here is very zen and peaceful. I caught myself experiencing a room full of people but these serene peaceful moments of silience. Either that or too many people were lost in a food coma. I was captivated by the beautiful window shrine display paying homage to the founder. A white linen sofa, fresh flowers, books and photos. I studied the menu and the waitress informed us of the daily specials. I decided on the Palik Paneer mixed with vegetable curry, dal And basmati rice. I later paired that with fresh Naan. I also ordered a Ginger Peppermint iced tea. For my daughter I ordered steamed vegetables, dal and basmati rice as well. The other guests ordered koftka and began meatball kabob. When our food arrived it was everything I imagined and more. I always order Palik Paneer(cheese spinach curry) so it definitely met my expectations. The dal was tasty but I missed the spice. Next visit I will definitely go spicier. :Cues Rihanna: CAKE! CAKE! CAKE!!! The vegan desserts were out of this world good. We were celebrating a birthday and the desserts were just the right way to celebrate. The Carrot cake was delicious. Moist, filled with fresh raisins, walnuts and full of carrot. The Layered Chocolate Cake was HEAVENLY! They also have a coconut crusted Dark chocolate cheesecake. Amazing! Out of all the local indian eateries this one definitely takes the literal CAKE. Everything here is perfectly made. They take their time cooking. So You know it’s real. The 5 star reviews lived up to my experience and I will be back.

Absolutely delicious. I had the best veggie burger I ever had here(I have been vegetarian for 5 years, so I am kind of a veggie burger carnoisseur).

I have been dining at Annam Brahma for nearly 40 years. The food is always very fresh and perfectly prepared. They’ve maintained an admirable consistency over the years, thus never disappointing their customers. There are numerous vegetarian items on the menu as well as a variety of soups, salads, omelets and veggie burgers(which are pretty good). I recommend the«Chapatti Roll-Up». It’s delicious. The restaurant is dedicated to the late Sri Chimnoy. His philosophical influence can be observed throughout the restaurant. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the pricing is reasonable. Parking can be difficult. I highly recommend Annam Brahma.

People need to understand that eggs do not contain chicken embryo. A chicken drop an egg every month like how girls get their period. These eggs are not fertilized. You are not killing a baby chicken by eating eggs.

4.5 Stars! Great vegetarian spot! One of us love the veggie burger here. Very flavorful! Absolutely delicious! The platter comes with a side salad & fries. The Indian kebob were alright. Love the side vegetables with butter sauce. The portion were satisfying. Not too big or too small. The décor is entirely devoted to Sri Chinmoy. Lots of his books, videos, & artworks are all on display. The service was great! The lady who served us were very polite & friendly. This place is definitely worth stopping by. We’ll definitely go back.

Best burger in the world, vegetarian or not. Worth a trip out to Jamaica Hill. Atmosphere is transcendental eastern culty in a really charming mom and pop kind of way. Thursdays is Italian day, the lasagna, is legit I can’t believe it’s not meat, but if out were made of people I’d still eat it, it’s great. Go Here Soon!!!

I have been to this place few times, located near Jamaica High school. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very calm and peaceful. The food is delicious, and the portion sizes are more than enough to fill your belly. The masala dosa, Indian Chai tea and homemade double chocolate cake are my absolute favorites. My only one recommendation would be to accept credit cards.

I was looking forward to a nice Indian meal, sadly most of this was not it. While my Dosa was decent, nothing and I mean nothing that my friend or I ordered had any taste of India to it. Most of the food was either bland or overspiced with the wrong spices. While it wasn’t bad in any way, it was so unremarkable and nonrememorable that I will not be returning.

The vegetarian cheese griller sandwich and salad is a must! I can eat here everyday. The sauce they use for both the sandwich and salad is the best tasting sauces I have tasted.

Wholesome, earthy, good-for-the-soul food! Great service. Tranquil atmosphere with lots of stories & messages on the walls. All vegetarian & a few vegan options. Samosas are a must try! And the best of all… vegan chocolate dessert!!!

One of my favorite restaurants ran and operated by the spiritual master Sir Chinmoy. The vegetarian Indian soul food is filling and delicious without being u unhealthy. Tucked away in Jamaica Hills, Queens this place is an absolute gem. The atmosphere is peaceful one that is great for solo eaters, book readers, families or anyone who just wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of NY and enjoy a quiet delicious meal. Did I mention it’s Indian Vegetarian although on special nights they offer burgers, Italian, and Chinese(vegetarian of course). The resturant is all about joy, mindfulness, love, kindness, light and you can taste it in the food. No matter what mood you bring into the resturant with you, you will surely leave feeling at peace. I ordered my usual Dal soup, Samosa, Chapatti Roll Up Indian Style, and for dessert the homemade carrot cake! The Dal is simply the best Dal I’ve ever had, it’s the MUST try item. I love the chapatti roll up, it’s an Indian wheat flat bread filled with warm curried veggies and fresh vibrant veggies(romaine, carrots, beets, red cabbage) and drizzled with a mayo– tamari sauce. Chutney(like an Indian dipping sauce/salsa) is always an option to add extra flavor to whatever meal you get. Not typically spicy like most Indian good, more flavorful. For someone like me who loves spicy food I actually enjoyed that I could taste all the flavors and the curry without the spice overpowering the meal. Last but not least the carrot cake… YUMMMM!!! The frosting wasn’t cream cheese but a lighter whipped frosting, now as for the cake… perfection– soft, moist and just the right proportions of carrots, walnuts, raisins, nothing over shadows another. Everything is combined equally for the most moist delicious carrot cake ever. In addition they have a ton of other vegan, and gluten free desserts that looked equally as delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try!!! Food made with love and very inexpensive

Usually I get the avocado sandwich in a chapatti with a side of fries: D Great vegetarian restaurant with options for family and friendly atmosphere. Love the people here, they’ve been in business for more than 40 years. Also very good cheesecake and dessert menu.

I truly love the food here! I am actually dumbfounded by a previous review of the food being called flavorless. I am BIG on spices but what I find so incredible about Annam Brahma is the intricate and subtle flavor in the food. Just today I posted a photo on instagram exclaiming how good the food makes me feel. I am a moderately experienced and not sheltered restaurant go-er but have a very sensitive stomach, I always come out feeling good after one of their meals. They do not put tons of salt which is difficult to find in a restaurant and are one of the few vegetarian restaurants that know what the heck they’re doing with vegetables. In response to that previous post, I actually find Oneness to be less enjoyable. I think the issue might be in the«meat» products. I normally do not order meats from Annam Brahma but do know that Oneness caters more toward protean eaters. My recommendations: Italian Day: Eggplant parm Chinese Day: Platter Mixed Veg Curry w/rice and dal(MIXTHEVEGINTOTHERICE!) Alu chop Avocado sandwich on chapati Hot Apple Cider

In some ways this is a wonderfully serene if not hippy atmosphere but the food severely failed to meet basic levels of taste and quality. First up beet coconut soup and split pea soup. Both of these soups were very good as well as the Samaso but that’s where the good news ends. The Shish Kebab veg meatball dish had no taste and the potatoes were raw and I mean not cooked. Rice was as flavorless as could possibly be and I didn’t think rice could be that flavorless. The waitress apologized and offered the money back but given the type of place this is I left it on the check. The other dish was vegetable curry and wow this was more awful than the veg meatball dish. I mean flavor… Hello? Flavor are you there? Nope no flavor home. Complete with in edible rice… Service was subpar as well. Save your money and go to the Oneness Fountain Heart… Food is thousand times better. Really hated giving such a low review given the nature of the restaurant but 2 stars is the max on this I could give.

Not a typical restaurant experience. Annam Brahma is not for everyone, though you’re more likely to have a good time if you channel your groovy, meditative side(just imagine yourself in «child’s pose» and relllllllax…). The un-pretentious, unique interior is a museum honoring the guru Chinmoy – a sanctuary that is jarringly quiet and somehow removed from the world outside. The walls are crowded with his works, including abstract paintings and books on spiritualism. As a strange contrast, there are also awesome/intimidating photographs of Chinmoy’s feats of strength.(He was a true«Renaissance man»!) In some ways, the venerable aura of the place discourages anything but an introspective attitude. It’s not just me; I’ve noticed customers barely speaking above a whisper to other diners. Instead of noisily crunching on my chapatti, I eat with methodical, modest bites so as to preserve the solemn atmosphere. The food options are a weird mix – it kind of reminds me of «The Dream Café» from Seinfeld. Indian cuisine features prominently on the menu, but there are also sandwiches, salads, and a «daily special» that’s a rotation of Italian, American, and Chinese foods(all vegetarian, of course). Overall, the food quality is somewhat mediocre, but the prices are affordable and your cash is going towards a noble cause.

This place was so serene that it was intimidating. As other reviewers have said, the servers were a little bit off. But they were really nice, genuine people. They were all obvious followers of Sri Chinmoy and I wouldn’t be surprised if this used to be his home. His works and quotes and pictures were posted on every wall and in every corner. A video of one of his talks was also being played on a 20-year old television. No one was around when we walked in and it seemed like we were trespassing in an Indian family’s giant house. It was super awkward but refreshingly unexpected. It’s very rare to see international items like burgers and pasta at an Indian vegetarian place, but they sure pull it off as one best can. I got a malasa dosa but what stood out the most was their dal. Up until I came here, I didn’t really know what dal was or even cared to know. But this buttery gravy-like sauce filled me with such savory joy that I had to ask what it was. I later wikipedia’d it and also asked my Indian friends. It’s made of lentils but instead of tasting bean-y, it tastes kind of awesome.

If i could choose between Oneness Heart Fountain and here, i’d be Oneness hands down. I came here because I was visiting someone at the Margaret Tietz rehab home and needed lunch. Don’t get me wrong, the food isn’t bad… it tastes fine. I only find it somewhat expensive. I ordered the Masala Dohsa and the soup of the day. Everything was delicious, but I felt the soup was TINY for the price. I ordered take-away, so maybe they don’t have larger cups??? I ordered the large soup(bowl, rather than cup sized) but received only a small Styrofoam cup’s worth of soup… that’s not cool… man, if a bowl is that tiny, how big is a cup? one of those Alice in wonderland-sized cups? I’d get more volume out of a sippy cup than that! the Dohsa tasted good, but for 9 something dollars… i really expected either something with more flavor or something bigger. Again, it tasted good… but for 9 something bucks… its eh Finally… the neighborhood isn’t the most savory area. This restaurant sorta… we’ll say… stands out against the deli, greasy Chinese food joint and auto chop shop nearby. Food in this area generally gets more volume for your dollar and so this place really clashes with the neighborhood. oh and CASHONLY
