First Choice Mechanical

Danger ahead, Stay away! First Choice Mechanical gouged our wood floor and refuse to repair it.
Our super used them before so we had them come assess our PTAC unit, which had stopped working. The guys that showed up were completely ill prepared to do anything. They didn’t have any drop cloths and just put the grate covering the PTAC on my hardwood floor before I could stop them and fumbled removal of the PTAC.
The operations manager jerked us around for two months. He would only respond after many emails and followups, or me calling and leaving messages. He sent someone to look at the damage one month later who said it didn’t look «fresh” — well no shit, it’s been a month! But finally he said he got approval to repair it.
Long story short, after radio silence, ignoring emails for another 3 weeks, I knew I was wasting my time with that guy and emailed the president. He responded a day later and said the operations manager would reply. The operations manager then reversed his stance and said they didn’t gouge the floor and wouldn’t repair it. WTF? I responded to the President and he has not replied. Our super said they were full of it and our building will no longer be using these clowns.
Our super also said their assessment and quote on options to replace the PTAC unit did not make sense and were ridiculous. He’s done the research. We have a much better company to use moving forward.
Avoid.

A disappointing experience, to put it mildly.
Upon contacting First Choice to request a quote to replace 2 McQuay PTAC units in our Manhattan coop apartment, they replied promptly and came out to examine the apartment and existing units. Of the 3 companies that provided quotes theirs was the least expensive, and their sales rep had a confident and knowledgable manner. From that point on, however, everything went wrong — from the details of the project proposal to the units that were delivered to the follow up repair service (less than 15 days after delivery) that never materialized. My mistake for going with the lowest bidder.
I would not recommend this company or the «Ice Air» units they sold us, under any circumstance.
