Now known as «Ariel’s Coffee Shop». And holy cow was this place bad! Walked in for lunch and it was 100 degrees inside, flies buzzing around. Should have just walked out, but unfortunately did not. Was stuffy, smoky and actually stunk once they started grilling. Like the bad smell of cooking spray burning in a pan. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, chicken wings and a diet coke. The coke tasted bad, so I checked the date on can. Expired in 2011. I returned it and got a look like«what do you mean? Soda can’t go bad…». Was promptly replaced with a can that expired May 2012, thanks so much… The burger itself was ok(like safe to eat OK, hopefully), but roll was cold and damp. The wings were hairy, very dry/dark and unseasoned. Maybe heated up one too many times? My friend opted for breakfast. 2 eggs(they didnt even ask how he wanted them cooked) and some spoiled tasting pastrami on the side. Paid the bill and headed for the hills. Scary. Hopefully someday there will be a capable operator in this place as the area could use a decent coffee shop. This my friends, is not it.

This is one of those places that you find during a personal experience of the Hangover. The food is pretty good and service is fast. It is everything you need in a diner. Basic breakfast.

Have passed by this old run down looking trailer for about 20 years… and now, because of my fellow Unilocalers, decided to stop in! Went in and were impressed with the service and food. The venue is rather small, but they’ve made it work. There aren’t any menus, but if you ask them to make them what you want, more than likely, they will have it, and make it.(Some diners don’t even serve Chocolate Chip Pancakes, but they do, and yes, we ordered it.) I went with the standard breakfast sandwich with egg whites, cheese and bacon on an english muffin. They were NOT skimpy on the eggs, cheese and bacon… it was a FULL sandwich… I swear I had like 5 strips of bacon in my sandwich. Sunday morning breakfast for three, under $ 30 with coffee and bottle water… how can you go wrong with that?(I’ll let me fellow diners rave about their own meals in their reviews…) Coffee was of pure quality too! They serve decaf, and was not watery or crappy! The waitress was attentive and was able to repeat our order for assurance without writing it down. Each table was adorned with a vase with a flower and a small bottle hand sanitizer!(Those little things excite me!) Cleanliness is obviously important to them, and the dining area is well maintained compared to the rugged, run down look of the exterior. Will not be passing by John’s anymore without making a stop! I have to come back for lunch! :)

I didnt expect much when I saw this place from the outside. I dont know if it was the fact that the restaurant was basically a trailer or if it was the dude outside the front steps hacking up a lung on the grass, but when has that ever stopped me before. Inside was surprisingly cozy and clean. The cook and waitress were both nice and greeted me as I sat at the counter area. There really arent any menus, so I just asked for some eggs, bacon, home fries with a bagel with cream cheese. The eggs were light and fluffy. There was a mountain of hash browns on top of the eggs that were the type mixed with green and red peppers and onions, but a bit mushy. Next time I will ask for ‘well done’ since I like my hash to have a bit of a crunch to it. The bacon was great. I suppose it is difficult to screw up bacon, but it tasted better than regular bacon. It was light but crunchy and had good flavor. The bagel was pretty average, but I enjoyed the meal overall. With coffee it came to $ 8, which was well worth it considering the mound of food they served. Good work Johnny!

I have always wanted to come here. Have passed by it a million times. It is literally a trailer on hillside avenue. Finally convinced the bf to try it out for Unilocal sake. Inside this trailer looked nothing like I imagined. I overheard them speaking of renovations tho. Inside is a modern ikea wonderland. They definitely went to ikea, I recognize some of it. Typically diner fare, no menu you just tell them what you want. The pancakes were delicious and the price is cheap. Will stop by again! I had a feeling it would be a winner and I was right

This small, 50s looking diner which looks like a truck stop in the middle of Nevada somehow ended up in the Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill suburbs right on a major intersection. It looks extremely out of place which is why its great. I grew up going there and the look has never changed which I’m glad. You really feel like you’re not in New York. well if you ignore the Q54 that drives by every 10 mins. The food does not taste like regular diner food– which I feel over the years has become generic in taste. Their food all has a homemade taste to it, but amazingly good. My personal fave is the Pastrami on a roll with their unique mustard. Plus you get to see them make the food right in front of you. When I used to go there used to be a guy named Taz who did the cooking and he is no longer there but I heard the food got no worse. Definitely great place for an after-sex breakfast also =]

John’s has ruined other diners for me, well as far as breakfast goes. From the outside this place looks straight out of the 1950’s. It is like a «railroad car» type building. The inside has the most basic furnishings. Lots of framed pics of Elvis &NY Mets stuff(YAY). John’s is the only way that has been able to cook my eggs and bacon the way I like it. Eggs over, cooked medium, bacon slightly soft and hashbrowns crispy. Marcia(the then waitress now chef) remembered my order from like the first time I ordered it, I had a lunch meal there once, a burger and from what I can remember I liked it. My boyfriend introduced me to their egg sandwiches also ask for the hashbrowns in the sandwhich. It is the perfect greasy spoon type place for breakfast and I absolutely love it.
