They have $ 3 and $ 5 specials? Haven’t had Dominican food lately so I wanted to try a lil since I was in the area anyway. Inside looked clean and actually pretty spacious. It was after the lunch crowd so it was somewhat empty inside. $ 3 and $ 5 take out specials… Roast pork, Stewed chicken or ¼ Baked chicken with rice and beans. We got one with roast pork and it’s a pretty good serving. Not exactly enough for the 2 of us since L is a big guy, but we also got one chicharron and 2 empanadas, one chicken and one cheese. The chicharron was meaty, still fatty, but I was surprised at how much meat it had. It was definitely better than the ones we’ve had in Jackson Heights/East Elmhurst. The pork had a very clean flavor. The roast pork comes with a little crispy skin. The yellow rice is seasoned nicely, really flavorful. Beans are tasty as well. It was $ 11 for everything, would definitely come back and try the chicken.

I really like the food from here. I highly recommend their arroz con gandules, baked chicken, pernil(pork), and steak. They give plenty of food, and it’s quite inexpensive. If you want authentic Dominican food, with friendly service, this is the place. This is a no frills place, so don’t expect much for the décor, but the food is delicious. Do note that this is a ‘cash only’ establishment. I really wish they would deliver through ‘Seamless’.

Quick good and inexpensive food. Came here for a take out $ 5 lunch special consist of yellow rice, baked chicken and sweet plantains but other choices are available. You can’t go wrong with that. Street parking maybe the only thing stopping you from coming here due to it is very hard to find parking during lunch hour or early dinner time.

Cheap, delicious, Dominican food for a fantastic price! I stopped in here after jury duty and before heading to JFK to grab something to go. They have $ 5 lunch specials that is more than enough for two people or two meals. I got the baked chicken, rice and beans and could barely eat half of it. Chicken is so tender, it falls right off the bone. Everything was flavorful and delicious. It’s a short walk from the Sutphin BLVD — JFK stop on the E train. Maybe about 7 minutes. Ca$h only.

Lady working there looked at me like I walked into the wrong store. Cranky hungry Chinese boy on a Tuesday afternoon that just lost his dispute with the department of finance was looking for something to eat. No standing from 4PM-7PM didn’t help either. But that didn’t stop me from parking in the front and eyeing my car every 5 seconds while I was ordering. Can’t believe it was only $ 5. I have been craving Dominican for a while and I finally got it. Finished the whole thing in less than 10 mins and almost fell asleep while I was driving. This Chinese boy will come back again, I guarantee it.

Name is not tbe same. My husband walked in and judgemental ignorance plays dumb saying they dont know what acapurria is. After he starts walking out they respond«we’re dominican»… Ya think? A note to clarify: Dominicans make alcapurrias too, their cuchifritos are called frituras.

3.5 stars — $ 5.00 lunch specials and everything tastes homemade. I usually order take out and love the various menu options. I never dined here but the restaurant appears medium sized, no frills and moderately clean. Staff is nice enough and take requests especially when I need my tostones & garlic sauce fix. Arroz con pollo for $ 5 with hot sauce and I’m ready to continue my work day

Food is really good. Portions are large and cheap. For $ 5 you can get a big piece of chicken, your choice of rice and a huge portion of side dish. Did I say all for $ 5!

It’s okay. I’ve tasted better onions were horrible with the mangu. Mangu was okay. Wouldn’t go back waste of money.

$ 5.00 Spanish Lunch Specials?! — I’M A FAN! Their advertisement outside the restaurant is not a bluff. I ordered take-out, the Roasted Chicken with rice and beans. It was amazing and it was a lot of food! By the time I finished, i was having food coma at my desk! The chicken was so tender and juicy yet so flavorful with their special spices. Rice and beans were cooked to perfection — love the taste when it is still burning hot! Although the restaurant itself does not look attractive but the food was worth every penny! For take-out, just order at the front. The staff behind the counter will serve you. Quick service, they get you in and out in about five minutes.

I work near by and was drawn by some decent reviews and awesome lunch special prices($ 5!). I had the roast pork with yucca. The portion was generous, the pork had good flavor and a nice crackle, and the yucca was decent but a little over-cooked for my taste. I took my food to go, but the interior seemed decent enough and the ladies were very friendly in spite of my gringo appearance. The verdict — a solid three. Bear in mind that a four in my book is pretty awesome and a five is a mind-melting culinary assault on every level, leaving me in a semi-state of food-phoria. The bottom line: this a decent Dominican joint/hole-in-the-wall with tasty food and great value on a lunch special.

this place reminded me of the tasty foods from the kioskos in Puerto Rico! 5 stars — on point fresh food(GOAT12pm!!) 3 stars — bad judgement when i walked into this place, the first thing that caught my eye was the chicharoones and the pernil!(ok, make that to things…) server: hello, what would you like to eat? me: i pointed at the pernil and chicharrones, then said, «over yellow rice please.» server: takes the take out container, and starts filling it with the goods! me: i’m thinking, ok? maybe they want to save water… server: beans sir? me: sure, black beans please… server: she packs and seals the takeout container, and says $ 9… me: i was thinking, since we sat down, we’d eat here… they assumed, even though we sat down… we wanted take out — BADJUDGEMENT! they could have gained extra money with tip. on a 30° degree(real feel 20° degrees) with 8″ of snow, who’d want to take out CRISPYSKIN? they should have asked, «hi! will this be dine in? or take out?» the simplist things make the biggest differences…

This is a spanish Dominican restaurant. I work in the area. Lunch specials are very reasonably priced. The food is delicious and place looks clean. It has plenty space for sitting and eating your food. The staff is polite as well. I visit this restaurant for my lunch quite often.

I love me some steak, so I ordered the steak with peppers and onions with yellow rice and beans. Mmmmmmmmm I am still eating it now!!! It was that good the I felt like I needed to stop and post a review!!! Lol I would’ve gave it 5 stars but its hot in here lmao

I used to come here all the time when I worked in Jamaica, Queens and the lunch specials were $ 4. I was in the nabe and saw the lunch specials were $ 5 which is still in my budget range. LOL. I ordered the stew chicken, peas and rice. I was disappointed it didnt come with a small side of salad or few plantains but you cant ask for much when you’re only paying $ 5. The food was good and tasty and I definitely had enough to eat for later. They remodeled or change the place around because the seating area looks bigger, I will definitely return when I can.

My boss bought me food here and how could I say no, it was free! I had the pernil and it was eehhhhh ok. It was warm and not as flavorful as I expected. The yellow rice and red beans were ok but it is hard to get that wrong. The portions are on the larger side. They have some good lunch specials. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat at Puerto Plata and I don’t think I will be returning.

Punta Cana is a nice little super casual Dominican place that serves an awesome portion of food for a great price. The hygiene may be slightly questionable, but I deliberately choose to ignore that in exchange for the tasty hot meal. The lunch deal is great, $ 5 for a meat, rice, and beans. +$ 1 for fried plantains. Absolutely nothing to go out of your way for, but if you live/work in the area, the hot meal is really satisfying. I always get the Pollo gisado, yellow rice, beans, and maduros. The chicken is literally fall off-the-bone tender, and overall everything is pretty delicious. If you stay to eat, I believe the prices are generally cheaper than if you take it to go. But if you factor in the tip, it probably averages the same. Also, different servers pack your food differently. One woman haphazardly throws food in, while another carefully structures a space-saving pile of food to get even more for your money. It goes without saying I love the latter woman. I’m also amused that this Dominican place gives you Chinese hot sauce packets. Verdict: Great lunch spot.
