A small place with great neighbors Beavertail Aquarium is a small, cramped and kind of stinky place. Pretty dark and not much room to move about, especially if a whole herd of kids are stuffed in the room. It’s still a pretty cool place though. A couple of tanks filled with fishies and crustaceans and various old posters and fish models hanging around. Certainly not the biggest or most impressive aquarium in New England but it is free and the young lady working there was willing and able to answer the tsunami of questions she was assaulted with. The best thing about the aquarium is the location, Right next to the majestic Beavertail Lighthouse and the very cool Beavertail Museum, the aquarium has some very impressive neighbors. Beavertail park is situated right on the southern most tip of the island so it gets pounded by wind and waves and the views are spectacular in all directions. A fun place to go in heavy weather. The aquarium is just one small part of the whole experience. No, it’s not very big but it is free, fun and very cool. They don’t have a gift shop so you can’t buy a crummy t-shirt here but they do sell some very nice crummy t-shirts and other trinkets in the museum right next door. Not some place really worth going out of your way to see but if you are in the park it’s definitely worth a visit.
