The food here is pretty decent and the wait staff are attentive. The atmosphere is your typical«Mexican» restaurant. It helped that I speak Spanish as we did have a few specific requests. The music, when we were in there last, was very loud and weird(like American techno) and made conversing with friends and family difficult. The chips ‘n salsa were delicious! I would recommend El Maguey to anyone in our area that wants a decent Mexican-American-style meal, but doesn’t want to drive too far.

Well if you can get food to go you’ll likely give this place 4 or 5 stars. The ambiance I would rate 2 stars and the service merits 1 star at best. My wife and I ate there on a Saturday for lunch. The TV had a basketball game on which was fine. But normally the volume is muted in restaurants especially when the TV caption is available. But the TV volume was on loud, competing with the Latino Electronica LOUD music which was playing. I had a slight headache when I arrived and a major one when I left. Here is a positive: the food was very good. My wife had something called Brochetas which was a mix of steak and chicken(had to ask for half and half and server was confused at the request) and veggies on a shish kebab. She got 2 with her order. I don’t remember what mine was called but it was a chicken breast with vegetables. Her order was significantly more generous than mine. I ate part of hers and she still had some left so we took it home. If I could erase the experience with the servers I would rate this place at least 4 stars if not higher. All servers that I saw were teenagers. That’s fine if they do their job. They did not. The ones we saw were constantly checking their phones, but not checking on us. Granted, I do drink a lot of ice tea and their glasses are a bit on the small side. So I had to regularly ask for refills. Not once did the teeny bopper server ask on her own if I wanted a refill and NOTONCE did she check back with us to ask if all was ok with the food, etc. On a previous visit, the teenage male that waited on us took our glasses away from the table to refill them. What I didn’t like is that he also had in hand someone else’s glass from a different table to refill that one. I’m not a germaphobe but that seems unsanitary to me. Our friend in Boonville IN where the other El Maguey is(same management) said that restaurant has gone downhill lately too. She used to love it and choose it over Los Bravos but not any more. Bottom line: food is good but there needs to be better management and better training and supervision of the teenage servers.

Great food and fast friendly staff. The chunky guacamole is unbelievable. Mrs. P had a couple pomegranate margaritas and I had a few sips and they where delicious too. Burrito Loco is as big as your head and very good. I can’t recommend this place enough.

One of my favorite restaurants in town. The owners and staff are super friendly. Portions are huge, prices are not. Great for families, business meetings or 1 – 1 with your spouse. Highly recommended.

We come back often now… I realized if you look closely on the menu they have the most authentic Mexican tacos around. Get the Mexican tacos which come with either carne asada, carnitas or chicken I believe. Authentic because they’re made with smaller, quick fried(so not crunchy but enough to be soft) tortillas, avocado, cilantro, lime wedges and some pico on the side. The carne asada is amazing! I highly recommend it if you’re looking for authentic Mexican style tacos this is your place!

Everybody we talked to in the area loves El Maguey Grill and says it «real» Mexican food that is better than at other places around. So, six of us went there for dinner. The atmosphere was fine, and our server was friendly, though new, so he had to go ask about a few things(no biggie). I was able to get Nopal(cactus) in my Veggie Fajitas instead of mushrooms, so that was nice. It was my first time for cactus, and I liked it. The texture was about like cooked green peppers, but the flavor is sweeter(though not quite as sweet as red peppers). The portion size is huge, so it provided two meals for me. So, I really wanted to give this place 4 or 5 stars(like my friends would), but I cannot for the following reasons: 1. Onions, peppers and mushrooms in veggie fajitas feels like an afterthought. Why not use cactus since they serve it? Or things like squash, zucchini, or broccoli? 2. Their sangria comes in a bottle. Thus, I opted for wine. 3. Their Burgundy wine(haven’t seen that on a menu in eons, though I like it) was served ice cold. :(

Awesome lunch menu in price and selection. Chicken chimichanga was awesome. The chips and salsa were so good we had two baskets! The service was fast as well. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. I will definitely return here.

Had lunch today with my family at El Miguey and have eaten there several times before. Food has always been good and service is quick and friendly. They have a large menu with more options to choose from them most of the other mexican food places in the area.

Slow service. Food was just ok. I might go back, but I wasn’t that impressed.
