After the 5th desperate visit trying to get my sushi fix, I decided never again. The place is dirty, the staff… I mean 10 year old kid of the owner, was somewhat bothered that he had to seat us. The food is over priced. And honestly, any«Japanese» place that feels the need to put a mayo based sauce on every single sushi roll on their menu is downright denied! Eek! Methinks not.

Okay people. We are talking about Jasper here. This is southern Indiana. If you are looking for the freshest fish try a different state. Service was prompt & cordial. I was happy to see they managed to include some Asian décor and the staff was Asian. Food was promptly made and delivered. Sushi was as good as any I have in southern Indiana. Overall I’m just happy to see a Japanese restaurant within 30 miles of my hometown.

The place was horrible. It took them forever to even ask us what we wanted to drink. Then one lady took our order and another served us and when she brought me something i didnt think i ordered. She got rea snappy and told me she didnt take my order. Sushi tasted old. Bad expeirance all around.

So sad… not good. Dirty tables… dirty plates. Terrible service and food. This sushi lover is not happy.

I ate there for lunch and was quite impressed. I am picky about sushi and usually avoid sushi restaurants in small towns because I doubt the fresh fish availability. However, two of us went there and had a great experience. The rolls we ordered were delicious, but I am not a fan of fried rolls and they have a lot of that. The sashimi was great, and we both received complimentary miso soups– which is always nice. The thing that I cannot speak highly enough about is the white tuna they served. I have a habit of judging sushi restaurants by their white tuna… and Yamato’s was superb! I recommend it for their white tuna and the fact that it is probably the only sushi you can find for miles!

For little Jasper, this place has some really good sushi! And real sushi, not just the common popular rolls like California. Myself and another person split three different specialty rolls(cannot recall the names off the top of my head, though one might have been«the American Dream roll.») Honestly, some of the best sushi I have had in awhile. Especially for what it was. Salad wasn’t what I was expecting compared to similar styles of restaurants, but still good. We did not try any of the other dishes offered so I cannot comment much on that. Service wasn’t amazing, but definitely not awful. Felt no pressure or anything awkward like that. Good sushi, decent atmosphere. Check it out!

When this restaurant opened in late 2011 it seemed to have huge potential to fill a void in authentic ethnic cuisine, but six months since it opened the food quality and service have collapsed. Lunch yesterday began with a «hostess» busy on her cell phone that led us to a table, slapped the menu at us and then returned to her call… Though the restaurant is never seemingly too busy, I always feel rushed to order, eat and leave. By that I mean that within minutes of ordering, the salad, appetizer and meal are served and the dishes just stack up on the table… My main course at lunch yesterday was terryaki steak and it reminded me of the old Wendy’s commercial of «Where’s the beef?» The fried rice was gummy. Neither the steak nor the rice was what I would consider hot. The salad is just iceberg lettuce… The only good thing that I can compliment is the tempura. I have a sense that Yamato is not long for Jasper.
