This is a great place to bird watch, but did not afford the hiking opportunity I was looking for. The Jefferson City Parks & Recreation page has pretty limited descriptions, so hopefully this review will help future folks searching the interwebs for local outdoor activities. From the trailhead parking, there is a short boardwalk to a 2 tiered viewing blind. It had been vandalized on our visit, but JCRec was quick to respond to my report. It is already under repair! To the right of the lot is a 0.10−0.15 mile asphalt paved trail to another two floor viewing blind. It seems that the lower portion is ADA accessible. If you would like to add a longer walk you can head down the road past the water plant, and access the mouth of the lake. There were tons of birds out, even on a drab winter day. It is greener by the water. I now know why there are so many birds bopping around town. This refuge gives them a place to roost!
