Day 012⁄365 Unilocal Challenge 2011 I’ve been ordering from Scholastic since the 9⁄11 year, which was my first year of teaching sixth grade level students. I came across a catalog of a former coworker, who didn’t change their mailing address to their new school. Scholastic issued me an account number, as a new customer, and I’ve been ordering products for my students ever since. With the closure of Borders nationwide, there are only pre-owned/used bookstores, Barnes and Nobles, and mail order/online book companies available to customers in Hawaii. This fall, Scholastic has begun charging a S/H fee, $ 3.50, to teachers whose combined orders are less than $ 20. The only bad thing is, I’ll have to wait until I have accrued $ 20 worth of student orders before I send them out. As a child growing up, I used to look forward to my elementary school teacher handing out those thin Scholastic book order forms and waiting for the white and red cardboard box to arrive. I had no idea then, that they were situated in Missouri.

I received an email from Pam Regan of Scholastic, Inc. after I opened a case with the Better Business Bureau. — - - Your correspondence with the Better Business Bureau has been forwarded to my attention. We apologize for any misunderstanding and hope this letter will help clarify the matter. Account number XXXXXXXXX is for the Beginning Readers Program. Our records confirm that this order was placed through the internet on April 12, 2008. The introductory shipment was sent out on 5÷27÷08 for $ 9.98. The 1st subsequent shipment was shipped on 5÷15÷08 for $ 13.97. We have no record of receiving any shipments back in our warehouse: therefore we continued to send statements reflecting a balance. Please be assured your account has been canceled, reflecting a zero balance. There will be no derogatory information reported to any credit bureau in your name. We also removed all information from our solicitation lists. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to respond to your concern. If there is anything further we can do, please contact me toll– free at 1−877−288−1062, Monday — Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. I will be happy to assist you. Sincerely, Pamela Regan — - - I am satisfied they have canceled the account I never opened in the first place and have removed my name from their system. However, Ms. Regan’s records are all wrong. I have in my possession the bill that Scholastic sent to me, and it clearly stated that all books were RETURNED as of 7÷2÷2008, eight days before her response. I am still disappointed that it took three phone calls and opening a case with the BBB in order for this to be resolved. This should have been taken care of from day one. So if you do business with Scholastic, beware and don’t be fooled by their«good» name.
