This consignment store is right near our favorite restaurant and we stop in whenever we are in the neighborhood. We have been coming here for several years and have found some great finds at past visits(Pendleton wool skirt for $ 10). However, I don’t know what happened to this place. Did they get a new owner or something? On our most recent visit I was absolutely shocked by the prices. This used to be a great place to rummage around but now the prices are prohibitively high. I sell a bit of consignment on eBay so I’m familiar with retail value of many of these things, and I’m not just talking about pricey – I’m talking about unethical. For example, I was looking for a leather jacket. Found a cute vest and thought it would be around $ 20 — it was $ 70. All the leather jackets were around $ 100. These pieces were from no-name brands and definitely pre-worn — and pieces by these same brands go on eBay for around $ 10-$ 30. Some other sticker shocks: Charter Club Quilted Jacket, well-worn — $ 50(around $ 70 brand new) 7 for all Mankind preowned shoes: $ 125(around $ 30 on eBay) Cheap-looking Guess blazer with plastic buttons: $ 50 VERY worn-in J. Crew blazer: $ 40(I think I’ve gotten new blazers on sale for $ 60) Lots of pilled, pre-loved sweaters for around $ 40 Stained, unbranded leather purse — $ 65 Small little 925 bracelets, like the sort you’d buy at a crafts show for $ 20: $ 50 Used Coach bag: $ 150 And on and on. Ended up walking away without anything. This place really needs to remember that they are a consignment store, not a Philadelphia boutique, and stop trying to charge three times what a product is worth. What a shame.

Went to Breslin’s this weekend and found some great items. They carry mostly upscale unique stuff. The staff is super friendly. I just wish their hours included more evenings.

My mom has been bringing me to this small, family-owned consignment store since I was a little kid. Breslin’s is a little suburban gem in my opinion. Over the years, I’ve found various trinkets and treasures here. It’s a great spot to pick up interesting jewelry since a lot of older ladies consign things that you’d hardly find in most contemporary stores. I scored a gorgeous cocktail ring here only a few months back for on $ 60. I consign clothes here every season and Breslin’s does a fair business, giving you 50% of the sale. Things tend to sell quite well here and my most recent consignments made me over $ 100. I think that the Breslin’s staff and owner know merchandise very well and lists items at fair prices instead of marking them way down. This is a good place to send that Coach purse you received last holiday that isn’t your style at all. Or that J. Crew sweater you swore you’d someday fit into. Unfortunately, you can’t take any old thing here as the owner is very specific about what she will and will not take. She accepts gently-used clothing, shoes, handbags, etc that are 1 – 2 years old. If she doesn’t take your items, you have the option to donate your goods to the Cancer Society for a tax deduction. The next time you’re waiting for a table at the West Avenue Grill, pop by Breslins’ for a peek.
