Sussman Acura

Really it a negative infinity amount of stars but Unilocal hasn’t given us that option yet. Today we decided to go here after making an appointment to see a couple of vehicles that they had for sale. We had a trade in and gave the specifics in an email BEFORE even waking in the door. Our appointment was with a salesman named Adam Bertles. Adam is a caveman, really he’s whatever came before the caveman.
We should have known this when he didn’t even greet us when we walked in, we walked to his office and there was no eye contact whatsoever when we shook hands. We sat down and without even asking us anything about what we were expecting that day he says «who’s going to be driving the car?» «I need ur drivers license». I stated that before we went any further it was most important for us to know what options we have with our trade in. He replied «well that’s not really how we do things»
At this point I grabbed my purse, got up, and walked out. NO ONE TALKS TO ME THAT WAY.
His rudeness was beyond epic. He acted like we were not worth is time and he had no interest in selling us a car.
If I was on fire and Adam was selling water I would rather burn than buy it from him.
Just a heads up Adam, when two people walk in to buy a car u should probably put on ur happy face and act like u actually want to do ur job. Oh, and looks aren’t all they seem, wonder how u would have acted if I pulled up in a BMW or Jag… just because we don’t drive a luxury vehicle doesn’t mean we can’t afford to. U should probably just assume that whomever is waking in there can purchase any car on that lot without making a dent in their bank account because we could. U missed out and all because u acted like someone peed in ur Cheerios and u had a double helping.
We will take our business and our money elsewhere and we’ll send u a post card!

Apologies in advance for keeping some of the details vague, but the subject matter is part of an ongoing (though probably futile) negotiation in attempt to remedy any part of the terrible experience that is dealing with Sussman Acura, and I believe there’s a legitimate possibility of reprisals for an honest review.
Car dealerships and salespeople have a reputation for dishonesty, but nowhere is it more well deserved than at Sussman Acura. In my experience with them, and talking with others, you can expect the following:
–Their promises mean nothing (they’ll say whatever it takes to sell you a car, and then whatever it takes to make you go away – even a promise in writing is only a guarantee if you’re prepared to get a lawyer).
–They’ll flagrantly and knowingly misrepresent the condition of used vehicles.
-«Certified pre-​owned» here apparently just means that they’ll certify that it was pre-​owned. Even for components that are certified and under some kind of warranty, don’t expect them to stand behind the certification or warranty. You’re 100% on your own for issues.
–Be prepared to spend a few thousand extra dollars repairing any used vehicle they sell you, even if they guarantee things or offer promises ahead of time.
–They’ll do everything possible to weasel out of any obligation more expensive than an oil change, even if it’s clearly their fault or clearly their legal responsibility to fix.
This isn’t a knock against Acura models in general. Acura factories make high quality new cars every day, and drivers trade in perfectly good used models to be resold every day. But that’s not how you should judge a dealership. You judge a dealership by their honesty, competence, and willingness to stand behind their promises and be there when things go wrong. And on ALL of those counts, Sussman Acura is one of the worst dealerships I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Let me put it this way: if I were outside of LaGuardia and had to get to JFK on the other side of Queens, and my only ground transit option happened to be a Sussman Acura car, I’d rather walk into the airport, board a 737, and change planes in Atlanta than deal with these people again in any commercial or even conversational interaction.

the sales department is awful. they’ll quote you a price and then add on fees that were not agreed upon after the fact. the service department is worse. they’ll treat you like an idiot and try to talk you into things you don’t need. caught them red handed when they tried to make me get new brakes… when i just installed new ones 3 months ago. overall, bad sales and service experience for a first time car buyer. this experience convinced me to never buy an acura again.

Every 18 yrs we get a new car even if we don’t need one. Looked at four nearby dealerships but gravitated back to Acura. Cars are not a big thing in our lives (obviously), but we actually enjoyed touring Sussman’s products and were given lots of time and felt comfortable making numerous return trips (not prodded by the dealership). The salesman, James Albert, informed us (accurately I am told by friends who are car enthusiasts) on the elements and merits of the vehicles. He accepted phone calls to clarify this and that with complete good cheer. No question seemed stupid. This was a big deal to us but thanks to the no-​pressure approach and openness here we felt we had people who were giving us the knowledge we needed to make a decision we would not regret.

In contrast to the reviews posted below, I had a good service experience at this location last week. I set my appointment online (8:15 am), and included the requested services (an oil change and diagnostics on the power steering) and the requested pick up time. Upon arrival I was greeted cordially and was given the opportunity to clarify some of the issues that I was experiencing. After a short wait, approximately 5 minutes, a driver shuttled me to my office, which is about a mile and a half away. Fast forward to 2:30 pm and my service was complete. The dealership indicated that the problem with the steering related to low power steering fluid, they topped it off as a part of my oil change – also included was a car wash. The oil change was billed at $ 40.00, a more than reasonable price for all the services provided.

The worst service department ever. They will take advantage of you and coerce you into performing services on your car that have been performed or are not required. Then, they will charge you high service and labor costs. They quoted me $ 280 to change my front brake pads and I got it done somewhere else for $ 90 total with real Acura parts. Just purchase the factory brake pads and take them to your local mechanic to change. This place will tell you that you will have to change your rotors as well and then charge you additional amounts.
My father came to get a normal oil change on my RDX but they told him that my car needed $ 650 worth or additional service which was not true because I already had all the 50,000 mile service performed. My father older and Korean and cannot speak English very well and its really sad that they took advantage of that.

Just got my second Acura from Sussman, I love it. The staff was great and made the entire transaction painless and easy. I went on line and got the price and called them to check colors. They gave me a fair price for my trade and even had the TSX ready before I got there. Kudos to Cindy, Tim and Chuck! Great place to get your Acura and Robin in service is a gem.
