I’m not sure how to change the title, but Monegro’s is now the Lafayette Corner Store. Gone is the bodega where you could buy a doo rag or light your loosie from a pack of matches hanging from a string near the front door. The new owners opened up the space, added some fresh produce, offer house made salads (tuna, potato, macaroni), sell some Thumann’s cold cuts and hot dogs, and have both hot and cold daily specials. A chalk board outside highlights what they have each day. I don’t know where they source their sour pickles, but a big glass jar shows them off, and they’re terrific. On nice days there are a couple of tables outside, and with the opening of the ‘Ruins’ antique/​collectible store two doors down you get a nice mix of people drifting back and forth. With several condo buildings coming aboard nearby, as well as an 80 unit rental building around the corner, we can only expect more variety and menu choices from them.
