Lucille Roberts – Jersey City

The space is small and the pictures online are not of the actual gym. Honestly the gym could be redone. It is not wheelchair accessible for those who may need that accommodation. There are a lot of stairs to climb at the entrance. The classes are good. The personal trainer is only there on Tues. They need a larger space and more machines.

Don’t plan an enjoying this gym. I don’t recommend it. The smell is horrible and make sure you don’t hurt yourself on all the broken equipment. The classes have no space and don’t plan on actually learning anything. My main thing is that they said they would cancel my membership and now I get a invoice over the mail, stating I owe for 3 months. When they told me in person that they cancelled my membership. Don’t bother with this gym.

I been going to this gym for years but the smell there is ridiculous. I had enough and I don’t plan to go back. There a lack of equipment here also. The only good thing about this gym is that it’s women only other than that there nothing else. Who want to workout with that smell. I been to a muscle gym with a guess pass and it never smell like that there. Don’t waste your money here. They have awesome classes here but the rotten smell while attending them overshadow the class. If more people complain maybe it change.

I would give no stars if possible! I joined because I live in JC Heights and it seemed convenient and cheap. Trust all the reviews! Everything that was said is 100% correct. It is dirty, smelly, over-​crowded, and a joke. The women who come here are rude and dirty. They sit on the machines, chatting and playing with their phones. They use the machines as chairs while waiting for classes to begin. The classes are so packed that I would think it is a safety-​hazard. The «ladies» who come here are ignorant and pushy, and rarely clean the machines. Half of the time, the cleaning wipes are empty. Machines are always out of order, despite the fact that you get stuck paying a maintenance fee every few months along with your membership. WTF are they using the maintenance money for? The bathrooms are a smelly, germ-​infested, dirty pig-​stye. The staff is polite but no help with anything. I tried this gym for about a year and that was it for me! I would rather walk outside for fitness and do workout dvd’s at home. It is cheap and I don’t have to smell the stinky armpits of dirty strangers. Do not bother!

This gym is disgusting and the front desk associates are rude and careless. The girl who signed me up didn’t take my stats or show me around the gym. When i called to cancel another girl told me to go online. She didn’t ask if there was an issue or why I wanted to cancel. I went ONE time to work out– NOBODY cleans the machines. These women in the gym literally leave a puddle of sweat & walk away to the next machine. The treadmill was crusty and the facility smelled horrible. I will never come back to this gym again! You certainly get what you pay for.. this gym is a DIRTY, SMELLY JOKE!!!

I can’t believe that place is still in buisness. As far as a gym. its a joke. Its a dump. Its over crowded. Desk help is a joke. Couldnt lose weight in this spot if you tried. The employees are feeding there faces. Classes suck. dont join

This used to be my gym, as it is the only gym convenient to my home. The one star is for their excellent instructors. The classes are great because the instructors are knowledgeable and fit and motivating. The good news unfortunately ends there, because it’s hard to get a good workout in the overcrowded space. There are several reviews here saying that members are rude (which I don’t deny), but it’s the design of the business and overcrowding that means that if you aren’t willing to get there early and elbow your way in, you may as well just stay home. The non-​instructor staff is usually unprofessional and unwilling to help — at one point they signed me up for a «better cheaper membership — it’ll only take a minute» — and I ended up missing my class that day and then getting charged for 2 identical memberships at once for 6 months with only the explanation after the fact that «I told you I can’t cancel your old membership — you had to do that on your own». I wish it was great — it’s a perfect location and the instructors know what they’re doing, but it’s not worth the hassle and stress and dirty conditions. I’ll walk the extra half mile to Planet Fitness in Hoboken and hope that spending my money elsewhere will somehow effect change at LR, purchasing adjoining space and hiring better staff. I should also mention that instructors don’t have keys to the space, so when front desk is late, classes can’t happen and everyone, including the instructors, waits on the street for the person who is late to work. It was the final straw to me cancelling my membership. If I can make it to the gym in time for class, the staff should be on time for work — or the instructor on duty should have the keys to open the gym.

No star really for their poor customer service. They just serve you when you sign up but after that you’re on your own. They are even rude to their own customers. We asked for a membership cancellation bec our schedule became crazy so there is no point in paying monthly for something we can’t use anymore so we tried to cancel our membership. But Lucille Roberts gave us the run around for a year now. It sucks being a customer of Lucille Roberts.

I should first start off by saying that this is my gym. I will then say, the only reason for this is because it’s the only gym walking distance from me and I don’t have a car.
Pros
1.) Not as small as I thought it would be but still small. About 10 ellipticals, 10 treadmills, and 4 bikes.
2.) Nice big space for classes.
Cons.
1.) Because there are no gym options by the heights, this seems to be where everyone goes to the gym. Extremely overcrowded, especially when they open. Makes it hard to get a machine in the morning and the classes are a nightmare.
2.) Fellow customers are rude and inconsiderate. The morning classes are a nightmare to attend. Latecomers will set up their mats overlapping yours, which can be dangerous if we are doing kicks.
Once during my first class, I guess I selected some burly regular s’ usual spot. She proceeded to yell at me in front of the entire class. When her friend tried to calm her down by telling her it was my first class she responded with «I don’t care, she needs to learn.»
I was flabbergasted at this. This was a grown woman, must have been in her 40’s or older. When I reported it to the person in charge, she responded with, «oh, really? Sorry.» Made no effort to remove the woman from the class.
3.) Although the prices are cheap, they are always trying to hustle another dime out of you. I recently got a bill in the mail that I owed a $ 10 late fee, when I made my last payment this month.
4.) Restrooms are usually filthy.
I spend my walk in the morning praying that another gym will open up in the area so I can cancel my subscription and work out some place decent.

This deserves minus 5 stars because this place is garbage and the people they hire are scum bag bitches… well not all but most. First of all I signed up for no contract membership for $ 20 a month and this little skinny Dominican girl was trying to sell me some nutritional supplement drink. I asked her does it taste good she said yes it is great. I said did you try it she said yes I’ve tried it and it works I’ve lost weight and I’m like you dumb b**** do you think I really believe you; you’re not even a good actress you can’t even sell me this you’re so skinny how can you lose any weight so I said no thank you I don’t want it and she scoffed at me and got mad cuz she really thought I was going to fall for it. Commission FAIL! Now the actual gym does have some good machines and they do have good classes but you would have to wait about 3 hours to get on a machine because there’s a sign in sheet and you have to wait & b****** act like they don’t know that they only can have half an hour so you always gotta go up to the girl and tell her that you’re next. Now taking a class you will really start to sweat because there’s about 300 girls in one room trying to move around and work out & you will smell: ass, s***, p***, ass, underarm, sweat! I was getting so pissed off I could not even stand to go to the gym but it was very convenient for me so I decide to stick to it and just come on different times. Now there was a better offer so some dumb b**** named Stephanie I believe told me there is the new price cheaper I think it was like $ 10 a month and it was no contract so I said okay I’ll sign up to renew and I did. First of all that b**** charged my credit card a fee then it charged me the one month in advance and when I went to go check my paperwork online it was a contract for two years. I went back to this stupid ass bitch the next day and complained and then she said show me the paperwork and I f****** blacked on that bitch in the gym. She never gave me any paperwork and she was acting like she did not remember me from the day before. I made some complaints and nothing was done and you can never get to customer service. Good luck trying to cancel membership they will try to f***** ROB you if they can. You got to be a beast to get this resolved and my s*** has been resolved and now I’m in LA Fitness & I pay more but I sure as hell get a lot more. Fuc u bitches!

How many times do I have to learn that you get what you pay for? I’m not sure what degree of luxury I expected paying $ 20 a month for a gym membership, but it was definitely at least a little more than I received at the Lucille Roberts Jersey City Heights location.
The most important thing to me in selecting a gym is the convenience of location. If it’s even remotely irritating to travel to my gym then I’m not going. Lucille happened to be the nearest gym to me and the price was fantastic so I signed my life away for a year.
Initially things weren’t so bad. The machines weren’t new or fancy but they sufficed for the purpose of suffering through a half an hour of cardio. There were enough weight machines to get a proper workout in and the classes were actually above average for the membership price.
Of course, as these things go, the good qualities of Lucille Roberts circled the drainpipe. They offered discount memberships so low that it made my $ 20 monthly payment seem obscene. This caused overcrowding at the gym to an absolutely insufferable level. If you arrived at rush hour, around 5pm, you could be guaranteed to not get on a cardio machine until 8pm. The workers were also surprisingly unhelpful in helping you out if someone stole your machine time.
With the crowds came broken machines and a broken bathroom stall (when there is only 3 in the place) that took months to fix. The locker room is small and the showers are not even worth using. They also often have sales representatives in there peddling products in such a location that you can’t avoid them. I don’t know about you, but my goal in going to the gym is to get the heck out of there as soon as possible. Stop selling me things and get out of my way. I already hate it here.
Minus a very tiny few, the staff here is more than a bit useless. No matter what question you ask, they never seem to know the answer nor do they express interest in finding out for you. When I finally ran the gamut of my membership contract, no one provide information more in-​depth than «I think you can do it online» as to how to cancel.
I wouldn’t waste my money on this gym again, even if it is in the most convenient location. Unless you live in the Burger King downstairs, it probably isn’t worth your time either.

eh. could be better, but it’s cool for local. I like the classes best. weird thing is while on the tread-​mill, you over look BURGER KING! HAHAHAHA!
