The rumors are true folks. Get anything off the menu, seriously you can’t go wrong. I order the chicken parm and let’s just say I never have any regrets. Order the cinnamon bread it’s ridiculous. You’ll be addicted, you have been warned!!!

If I could give this place 100 stars, I easily would. Everything I’ve ever tasted from here is absolutely delicious. The sausage bread and braciole sandwiches are by far my favorites, they are melt in your mouth delicious nectar of the gods. Go early though, the lunch rush spills out onto the block, and some of the more delectable goods sell out quickly. The owner is an absolutely lovely woman, and I can’t express how happy I am that I just had the luck to move right around the block from it, which is probably going to make my scale angry at me, but it’s so worth it. A mere minute walk to the most delicious bakery ever? Yes, please!

Either I didn’t read closely enough or just didn’t read period… but these cinnamon breads are HUGE. From the pics I thought they were the size of your typical pastry. They are about the size of half a loaf of french bread… huge. I got 3 not knowing this lol. Cinnamon bread was a high 3 low 4 out of 5. Maybe a little too much cinnamon as I have a little bit of a bitter/burn sensation in my mouth… but maybe these arent meant for one human to consume? I had most of one. Parts of it were super dense, spongy, and tender while others were very hard. I would have preferred all soft and spongy. Pizza was fantastic, super soft, great sauce and cheese ratios. Great flavor. Stuffed pepperoni bread was also great. Slow service but you get that in such a mom and pop/neighborhood type atmosphere. I didn’t want to wait for my items to be heated and I’m glad the woman asked if I wanted them heated. Opted to take them as is and very happy with the decision.

Read the reviews and heard about this place through people from work so decided to check this out. Small, hole in the wall bakery that’s a time warp back to the 1960s. Place is large enough to take about 5 steps and your at the end of the store. All bread is made through a brick oven. Sandwiches are made in the back. Had the Spicy Italian Sausage Parm sandwich. Excellent. Fresh mutz and red sauce was homemade and excellent. Sausage had great flavor. Price of the large sub was $ 5.50. Lol… Could not believe the price for the quality and amount of food I got. The stuffed bread with sausage and pepperoni was also excellent. If in Jersey City, must check these guys out.

This place is just too good. We got cinnamon bread and an eggplant roll with mozz all for 3.76. That’s less than we paid for one croissant at a bakery near grove street two minutes prior to entering Second street. You can tell that most of the clientele have been coming here for years and it makes sense because the woman who waits on you is the sweetest, the prices are great and the food is really really delicious.

The best Tuna sandwich in town, they have two of them, they both really good, it’s mediteraneean Tuna that doesn’t taste or smell like cat food, it’s the original stuff. The pizza logs are super tasty and can only remind me of my childhood! I love 2 nd street bakery God Bless You!

Hands down the best sandwiches in downtown Jersey City and at a great price. Many of these delis are disappearing and it’s always nice to be able to spend my money somewhere that still makes great sandwiches and is family owned. Hopefully this deli will be there for a long time. Amazing bread as well!

Ok now this place is one of very gems, family owned for 3 generations of Italians. Past down history and knowledge of how to make in my opinion the best Italian sandwiches I have ever had. Generous portions, soft fresh baked breads, high quality meats and cheeses and a taste that will blow you away all at a price that is very reasonable. I think it’s like $ 6.75 for a small sandwich and $ 7.50 for a large! I was shocked at my first bite, delicious. Don’t miss out on this local gem in Jersey City.

One of the few places I can get a real potato-and-egg hero – and on fresh-baked bread, no less. Delicious! A Jersey City institution for good reason.

Well, I guess the secret is out. This is easily hands down the best place for bread, knots, rolls, and sandwiches. I challenge you to find a better Italian sandwich in the area. You won’t. I would even go as far as to say this place can swing with any sandwich joint in NYC. Previously I had heard complaint’s about treatment of some but I have not experienced this and like the soup nazi of old, just take the heat so you can eat. An old Grandma and family team run the joint and its pretty goddamn consistent. 1 word of warning, get there as early as possible or they WILL sell out of everything.

I love to support this friendly neighborhood baker when I can. This bakery isn’t open at convenient times for me so that’s a con, however when I can make it, the trip is worth it. Baked goods are made fresh but are best warmed up before enjoying. Sandwiches are absolutely fantastic, the combo of home made bread and great ingredients is always a win.

Cinnamon bread is outrageously delicious! Best I’ve ever had! Slightly crunchy on top but soft on the inside and a generous cinnamon mixture that is just perfection!

I’m pretty sad that I’ve lived in JC for 20 years and just tried this place out. The lady behind the counter was super cute! She knew all about Unilocal and how she has great reviews. I had the #4 which was Mozz cheese, Parm cheese(I think but def a second type of cheese) and sundried tomatos. Simple, yet amazing. Its a cash or check place only! Super Fast! Extremely fresh! Will def be back!

Amazing. I really can not say enough good things about this place. I have yet to have something I didn’t like. It’s super cheap and delicious. Fresh mozz? Did you really have to ask? I could seriously eat every meal here and be happy… although not sure my pants would be as excited. The only downside is they close at 3 during the week… which kind of leaves me out of luck. At least my pants are happy.

Second Street is a pretty damned good Italian sandwich shop. I come here fairly regularly and the scene is usually the same. The place is dark with a low ceiling, and not all that clean looking even though it actually is clean. There will be at least 2 – 3 others waiting to order or get their sandwiches, including some Italians. The counter will be run by either a middle aged lady, or a younger guy, both of which are very nice and also efficient. After paying around $ 6 for a foot-long sandwich, you’ll wait 3 – 5 minutes as your order is made fresh. Second Street is very much a time warp, and luckily the sandwiches make the jump. My go-to is the chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe, provolone and thousand island dressing. The chicken cutlet is tender and crisp, and the broccoli rabe plays against the provolone well(except for the few times the provolone hasn’t been sharp, boooo). It doesn’t sound like the dressing fits in, but it does and helps to integrate the whole sandwich. I’ve gotten their braciole as well, which is tender and comes with a great tomato sauce. There’s a lot else to try on the menu, but I haven’t quite gotten past those 2 yet. The main thing I wish was better ironically is the homemade bread itself; it’s good, but nothing special. I keep putting it off, but next time I’ll buy some of the cinnamon bread as well; after all, they’re a bakery, not just a deli. Bottom line is this is a gem in Jersey City, and it’s even more awesome that I can walk down to it from my apartment.
