A very good place. Chicken tika masala is above average, the tandoori chicken as well. Went for the lunch buffet $ 12. And thought it a good deal. Service was great and ambiance is good. I’d probably have assess the other non buffet dishes to give a more thorough review but probably everyone orders chicken tika masala anyways.

I’ve only ordered from here and never really been to the actual restaurant. From what we tried on two occasions, we liked the Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala and Roganjosh. The food was on the milder side and had a bit of a sweet taste and unlike a lot of Indian places, wasn’t too oily or spicy and didn’t cause any heart burn. Also tried the Shrimp Curry, but didn’t like it much — the shrimp felt frozen and the curry was nothing special. Portions are huge, one entrée is enough for two people. Delivery time was within an hour and even though the prices are a bit on the higher side, compared to other Indian restaurants in Journal Square, the quality of the dishes felt better.

Went here for the lunch buffet. Fairly priced. The food that was there was good. However, I was disappointed with the selection. One rice. 3 veg. 3 meat. 1 appetizer. 1 dessert. Most of the dishes were empty or close to empty. The nan I got was cold. However, as I mentioned, the food was mostly tasty. Samosas. Chicken curry. Rice. Dal. Wasn’t a fan of the pistachio almond rice pudding or the chicken chili. The one employee was friendly and attentive.

The standout dish is the Chicken Saagwala! One of my absolute favorite dishes from any restaurant. Who knew spinach with chunks of chicken could be so damn good! I like heat so I ask them to make it extra spicy, getting hungry writing this review. All their standards are pretty decent as well…

What a delightful place. The staff is courteous and the best malai kofta I’ve ever had.

Unilocal friends! Try this place… check in… get a free mango lasi. Samosas are fresh and flakey. Enjoy!

I just moved to Jersey City, and driving in through Little India, I was excited to see so many different options for one of my favorite cusines! I used to work in an Indian restaurant, so suffice to say I’m passionate about the stuff. I want to try them all, and since Taj Mahal is the closest restaurant to where I live, I figured I’d start there. I ordered takeout since I felt like relaxing at home after work, and ran over ~15 minutes later to get my food. The service was very friendly and the place was actually pretty nice inside too, so I was excited to go home and try the food. Unfortunately it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. I got the chicken saagwala. First off, the spinach and sauce was very good. It was flavorful, well spiced and saved the dish from being bad. My only gripe there was that it wasn’t quite spicy enough(I asked for medium spicy, and it was mild). On the other hand, while I appreciate the quantity of chicken in the dish, the quality was very poor. It had several nerves, a slimy-ness to it, and single-handedly made me none-too-thrilled about finishing the dish. Maybe some people like their Indian food this way, but I’m used to chunks of at-least-decent quality meat instead; given the price point, that’s exactly what it should’ve been too. I’m not writing this place off altogether and I’m not shocked that it wasn’t great, but suffice to say I’ll be trying some of the place nearby before I come again. And if I do, I’ll stick to the vegetarian stuff.

These guys deliver pretty far which is a sweet deal since the only take-out options near me are Chinese food joints. I’ve dined in, gotten takeout, and delivery and I’ve been happy each time. Their lamb roganjosh, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, daal, chicken makhani, a variety of their naans and bindi masala have always been crowd pleasers. Their lassis are good as well. Unfortunately, if you want to get button-popping full, you’re going to have to spend a few bucks. I wish naan came with the meals or at least the raita. I end up always spending +$ 40 for 2 which kind of sucks when you crave this stuff a few times a week. However, the $ 40 is enough to feed 3 people. It’s ideal to eat with larger crowds since you can share the entrees. Service is always great. The staff is friendly, even the delivery guys are all smiles. Definitely one of the better restaurants in India Town

This is one of the better choices for delivery in Little India. I placed my order around 530 and it arrived within 45 minutes. The food was warm and well-packaged. Nothing warms the bones on a frigid winter’s night quite like a good vindaloo. Taj Mahal didn’t disappoint. The takeout container was packed with tender chicken and potatoes in a fiery, crimson curry. I usually find myself adding hot sauce to takeout(despite requesting«spicy»); this vindaloo actually packed the heat I was looking for. It came with a side of fragrant saffron rice. I threw in a vegetarian appetizer sampler(samosa, pakora, tandoori veggies) and an order of garlic naan to meet the delivery minimum. The appetizers were a little soggy and the naan a little heavy on the oil/ghee, but tasty nonetheless.

The chicken vindaloo can’t be beat. Chicken vindaloo is my favorite Indian dish and I like it hot. Kicks my butt every time with flavor and spice which is what I want with chicken vindaloo. The samosas are very good and are a good size. Prices are reasonable. Have never had problems with delivery over the course of 3 – 4 years of ordering, and the dine-in service is great. Check them out.

Oooh Taj, my fiancé and I have been ordering from your restaurant for almost two years now and we are two of your biggest fans. We are the piggies in downtown JC who appear to be ordering for a small group of people, but in fact it is just for the two of us for dinner, lunch the next day, and sometimes another dinner. I’m super jealous that you offer a lunch buffet as I work in midtown manhattan. But don’t you worry– I will be coming in on a day off… Yes, yes I will. Especially now that I have finally stepped foot into your restaurant and got to check out what your buffet has to offer. Mmmmmm. Plus your staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming(which I knew already from your friendly delivery guys) and your décor is really cool. We will definitely be joining you for some date nights. Some of my favorites include: samosa, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi, saag paneer, garlic shrimp, and gulab jamun(those delicious syrupy dessert balls)!

Went here for a Unilocal event and left very happy. The mango mojitos to start were delicious(although I didn’t realize this was an Indian specialty cocktail). The sour cream chicken samples the servers were offering in the beginning were delicious, as was the minced chicken and the shrimp. Us Unilocalers also got to enjoy a nice buffet that had more than enough food to feed the well over 50 people in attendance. My favorite dish was the lamb vidaloo, although many people found it to be too spicy. Oh well, more for me! Comfy chairs, although mine was half broken. And weighing in at 215 pounds before the meal(and probably 220 after the meal), I was a little nervous about breaking the seat. I had at least 3 of whatever dessert was served in sugar water. Delicious. Same for the rice pudding. I suggested to the owner that perhaps he add some rum or Gran Marnier to the sugar water and he seemed receptive. Very nice guy. I’d definitely like to go back here, but I wouldn’t dare try parking. If you live in downtown Jersey City, the restaurant’s location on Newark Ave. almost makes it worth walking as opposed to taking the train from Grove St. to Journal Sq. Plus the walk home makes for good digestion. Kudos, Steph. You pulled off another great Unilocal event. Looking forward to the next!

I am writing this review as I am waiting for my order I made 1.5 hours ago. I paid by credit card(silly me), otherwise I would have just made an order somewhere else and ignored this delivery guy when(and if) he arrived. I called the restaurant a few times a was told that the order would be coming in a few minutes. Update 10 minutes later: the order was delivered, they just got the street name wrong, hence the delay, When I was hungry and wrote the first draft of this review, I gave then 1 star, but now that I’ve tried the food it’s 4 stars, Would be 5 if they delivered on time, The curry is awesome!

First a fun story: Today I ordered on seamless and you pay with a credit card on that site. I completely forgot and gave the guy $ 45 cash when he came. I got a call from the restaurant an hour later and they explained that I most likely did this by mistake and sent the driver back. How cool is that? On to the food! It’s great! I have ordered delivery from here a bunch of times and been to the restaurant itself a couple times. The food is very flavorful and they do not make it spicy if you do not want it spicy. I have to say the waitress there was very kind to my wife and I when we went on valentines day. I recommend the chicken tikka masala, chicken makhala, and the lamb roganjosh. All great. Great food, super fast delivery(quoted 45 minutes it took 25), and an honest staff. What more could you ask for? I’ve tried other Indian places in JC and Hoboken and this is the best for me.

May I just say AMAZING? I found this spot through a fellow Unilocaler! After reading the reviews, my mouth was watering at the thought of foodgasm happening whenever I would get the chance to go to this place. So, I went yesterday. Two trains, lots of walking and sweating… and it was all worth it! As soon as we went in, we loved the atmosphere. We were promptly greeted by the host who led us to a comfortable booth. As soon as we sat down, we received some papad with the yummy sweet and sour sauce(name?) and water. The service was already impeccable! The waitress was so engaging and seemed sweet. She laughed and joked with us as I told her that I wasn’t looking for anything too spicy: my boyfriend(who is from India) had been cooking for me all week and I needed a break from spices. Thus… I ordered a mild chicken tikka masala. But first, let me talk about the appetizer: Garlic Shrimp. Just as the reviews mentioned… AMAAAAZING! Mouth-watering jumbo shrimps cooked in a garlic, buttery, creamy sauce of amazingness and heavenly taste. Just yum yum yum. There were five shrimps. We shared the appetizer and it was just enough to tease our hunger without filling us. When the chicken tikka arrived, with rice and garlic naan(my boyfriend ordered I don’t know what… I was too in awe of my own plate), I was mesmerized! I am not exaggerating! It was so tasty that I ate my whole naan, a lot of rice, and my whole bowl of chicken tikka masala! I was so full afterward… but it was worth it! We were so shocked by the price: $ 40 for one appetizer, two entrées, two breads, and one soda. So cheap! We should have been in Jersey City all along. I definitely recommend this place to anyone willing to travel the extra mile to get there. Worth every minute, and every penny.

My wife and I order delivery from Taj Mahal at least 3 times a month. While we’ve never eaten inside the restaurant, the delivery is top notch. The food comes quicker and hotter than most of the Indian restaurants in Hoboken, yet Taj Mahal is less expensive and doesn’t charge a delivery fee. At a recent Unilocal event at Mana Contemporary Art, Taj Mahal was giving out samples. I made sure to tell them how much we love their food and it prompted me to write my first review for an establishment I’ve only ordered delivery from.

In my never-ending quest to broaden my Indian cuisine horizons I found myself at Taj Mahal for dinner. I imagine that it’s much more bustling during the day since it’s just down the block from the Hudson County Courthouse, but I was a lonely soul that night… I’m not kidding, I was the only person in the restaurant which always makes me a bit apprehensive about the food. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised with my meal… quite enjoyable as a matter of fact. I started off with the Paneer Tikka which consists of cubes of Indian cheese grilled on a skewer with peppers and onions. Nothing earth-shattering, but I had never tried it and it wasn’t half-bad. My entrée, Lamb Roganjosh, was much more interesting and flavorful. The lamb was tender and there were a host of spices in the sauce which blended together nicely. It could have been spicier, but it was flavorful nonetheless. I ordered the spice level«medium» and I’m learning with Indian food that you have to learn to gauge each restaurant’s heat level. No big deal, I’ll just know better next time. I also went with a side of Garlic Naan which was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and loaded with garlic(good choice Dave!) Taj Mahal is BYOB, but I wasn’t drinking that night and opted for a Mango Lassi which was pretty damn tasty! My waiter was very polite, helpful and attentive(as well he should have been since I was the only person there… lol) Overall, I like Taj Mahal… another successful venture into Indian cuisine!

Thank you Taj Mahal for offering delivery! Had some friends over and we were starving, but it was getting pretty late and we wanted to just get delivery. After having no luck with a few options, we decided to go with Indian and ordered from Taj Mahal. Ordering was very easy because it can be done online, but delivery honestly took forever. It took an hour &15 minutes, which is a bit much, especially when the max is 60 minutes. However, our delivery guy did apologize and said he was running late. It wouldn’t stop me from ordering again and hopefully getting quicker results. We got the Samosas for an appetizer, which was delicious. We also got a few different naans, they were all good, my favorite being the Rosemary, but I have had better naan. In their defense, it was delivery so that probably added to the overly-chewy texture it got. Our entrees were the Aloo Gobi Masala, Paneer Saag and Taj Biryani rice special. The were all very, very good. And the dishes we asked for mild actually came mild, they weren’t spicy at all. I really enjoyed the Aloo Gobi, which was cauliflower, potatoes and a delicious sauce influenced by onions, tomatoes and ginger. The Taj Biryani rice was full of delicious lamb, and all of the entrees were generous portions that were great for sharing. Looking forward to ordering from them again!

This order is only for delivery, since I’ve only ordered online, so I can’t comment on inhouse service. The malai kofta is really, really good here(and this is the bulk of the 4 stars!). It’s this light yellow curry(?) that has some vegetarian dumpling balls in the sauce. The veggie balls were soft and delicious. I only wish that they put in more of the veggie balls because I ate them really fast and had way too much curry left over! But it was still delicious — slightly sweet, if you like sweeter hot foods. I have had the saag paneer here but I was a little disappointed by it. For one, it was a little dry(I prefer the saag that is more mushy/blended). The paneer chunks were pretty big as well! Also, I had asked for mild but it was way too spicy for me to finish! I never get spicy saag paneer so this was new for me. Probably won’t get this dish again. Delivery prices and speed were reasonable. I will definitely order from here again!
