I purchased a 10 pack on Groupon at the beginning of January looking to start a calming yet physical exercise practice. I’m just about done with my package and I am definitely looking into my options for joining going forward. I’ve taken a variety of classes(Basics, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, and Restorative) and I’m nothing short of addicted. Every instructor has their own personality and makes each class very personal, informative, and beautiful. I’m very happy to have begun my yoga practice at YITH!

There is a nice range of classes and I’m happy to find a yoga studio like this in the area. My only issue is administration’s lack of flexibility in working with me when I moved away from the area(I had 2 classes left from a 10 class pack and wanted to transfer the classes to my roommates account so they would not go to waste. The owner said they could not make an allowance for this). Small issue, but it would’ve made all the difference on a customer satisfaction level.

I started going to Yoga in the Heights during the last 2 summers at the Riverview-Fiske Park Farmer’s Marekt. I had never done yoga before. As Nick mentioned in his review, it was donation-based. It was a fantastic way to introduce myself to yoga. I purchased a month-long membership this past fall as part of their grand opening promotion for their new Central Ave. location. I really enjoyed my membership and learned a lot, including proper technique in a smaller atmosphere(the park classes had no size limitations). I hope to get back to taking classes again there soon. This studio is a FANTASTIC addition to the Heights-area! Some helpful information… 1. The entrance is on the side of Payless, and you’ll need to ring the buzzer to be let inside. The studio is located on the second floor, and you’re asked to remove your shoes upon entering the main door. There’s a rack to hang your coat along the side. 2. They have a variety of classes available including hot yoga, english/spanish yoga, and a yoga basics class for new yogis(like myself). I highly recommend the basics class if you’ve never done yoga before or are still new to it. You learn a lot about proper positioning and knowing how each pose is supposed to feel. Everyone is really friendly and supportive in all the classes I’ve attended. They also have a variety of instructors who teach there. 3. They offer free hot tea from Do You Tea! on Summit Ave. which is a really nice touch, especially during the colder months. 4. They offer a variety of events and workshops each month that offers information on diet and nutrition, musical events, etc. Some are free and others have a nominal fee. I’ve only had the opportunity to attend their grand opening workshop, which was really informative. 5. To reserve a class, you can call, log into their website, or use the Mind Body Connect app. I love the app because I can register for a class any time of the day and it takes less than 30 seconds to reserve your spot! 6. They offer additional services like reiki, massage and acupuncture. I’ve only tried the free sample reiki session(about 10 minutes), and it was a good experience. It was my first time trying reiki and I didn’t feel much. Although, my mother tried it as well, and she felt so much calmer and at ease after her session. She’s been wanting to go back ever since! 7. They offer both an unlimited monthly membership and 10-pack of classes(as well as a drop-in rate — $ 17). However, you can’t beat the introductory new membership rate of $ 39 for 30 days. I recently bought this as a gift for my husband and he’s been loving their classes! 8. They provide the yoga blocks, straps and blankets. You just need to bring your own mat.(They do sell mats there as well.)

I’m so thankful I found YITH at the Riverview Farmers’ Market last summer. What better way to experience yoga than in open air in the park?! I had been trying to find a local yoga studio after my studio closed in Edgewater. All of the teachers here are excellent and I’m learning new skills including Yin and meditation with Karen and restorative with Bridget. The feeling of the studio is very warm and friendly — tea is brewed before and after class to encourage both relaxation and socialization. It’s a true community here and I couldn’t be happier with my monthly membership.

We started going to Yoga in the Heights in the summer of 2014 at the Riverview Park farmers’ market. They have a donation based class there during the warmer months and they recently moved to a great new studio on Central Ave. My wife bought me a trial month membership for Christmas and we went about about a dozen times in January. She’s now a regular with a monthly membership and I’m on the 10 — pack plan. The teachers here are great and the whole staff is friendly. The classes are diverse, including various levels and styles. There’s something for everyone! Having done are lot of yoga in college at informal gym spaces, this is are welcome edition both to my routine and to the neighborhood in general!

I have been with YITH since the beginning, starting with a cold garage, moving to the farmer’s market, a Tae Kwan Do studio and now the latest and greatest iteration of YITH. So, I am definitely a YITH fan! I’ve loved seeing how the studio has grown over the past few years — the studio on Central Avenue is beautiful, calming and relaxing(the antithesis of Central Avenue) and well thought out. There are other services at the studio including acupuncture and massage! Oh! And Hot Yoga starting soon! :) I think the best thing about YITH is knowing that it was grown out of our community, right here in the Heights.

Yoga in the Heights changed my life. I am turning 60 in April and am a ovarian and breast cancer survivor. I gained a lot of weight from medications, inactivity and depression. I had not done yoga in 20 years. My daughter gave me the new member special to help me. That was 3 months ago and I am now a monthly member. The studio is beautiful, inspired and immaculate. Stephanie, one of the owners, is there everyday meeting you with a warm smile. She is so helpful and efficient and wants input to always keep improving her services. I have grown to think very highly of her. My favorite instructor is Karen. I had experience with yoga but never have I had an teacher like Karen. Her abilities and knowledge of her craft and her spirit shine through in every class. She has enabled me to grow both spiritually and physically in a very short time. Her classes equally exercise your mind and spirit. I cannot express in this space how wonderful she is. I feel blessed to know and work with her. My health is general has improved but more than anything everything in my life is changing. I love going and it is now part of my life forever. I strongly recommend Yoga in the Heights.

Full disclosure, I’m a teacher at YITH, but I am a long-time yoga student and know a well-run studio when I see one. YITH has two studios(one heated, one not) and offers a wide range of classes with well-trained teachers. The space is clean and comfortable, the check-in process is easy, and the prices are very good($ 99, one month unlimited classes). Jersey City Heights needed a yoga studio, and here it is! There are two lovely treatment rooms for massage or accupuncture, which I also rent for teaching private classes. There’s hot tea and cookies out for before or after class, and two large bathrooms. The class offerings will grow as the studio settles in to its new home, and there’s always something fun going on in reception, like a pop-up store with local artisan goods. There’s always workshops on offer, including ones on nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine, and other cool topics. A great, community-building addition to Jersey City!

Yoga in the Heights has far surpassed expectations with their lovely new space. It is an oasis much needed in our beloved Heights. The location is central to most everything(317 Central Ave) and easy to get to. The space is open and inviting … they clearly put a ton of effort into making it accessible and welcoming to everyone. They have varied classes so the newbies and the seasoned yogis are equally happy. If you have been traveling far and wide for a yoga class that suits you, look no further. You won’t be disappointed.

The Central Avenue location of Yoga in the Heights(YITH) is new as of October 2014, but the studio has been part of the Heights community since 2012. The entrance to the studio is on a side street around the corner from Payless on Central Avenue. By ringing a buzzer, you will be let in. Once you get to the top of the stairs, you will be soothed by the beautiful lavender walls in the reception area. Owners Stephanie and Bridget did a fantastic job with the décor. It’s such an inviting and calm space. The studio itself has luscious, dark, hardwood floors, and props like blankets and blocks are available for all students. Though I usually practice yoga at home, I started taking classes at YITH because they were offering an affordable grand-opening special that allowed me to try Powerflow with Robyn. I’ve gone twice a week, every week, since the studio opened, and I can feel myself getting stronger, as I’m pushed by an instructor who challenges her students but is also aware of their skill levels. I’ve also worked with other YITH instructors in other settings(Karen and Jessica), and I can attest to their knowledge, talent, and approachability. Coming to YITH makes me feel like I’m part of a community. The students here are all basically my neighbors, and I’ve already formed connections with those I see regularly in class. I highly recommend this studio!
