Down Home

The Down Home is the kind of place you have to experience to appreciate how special it is. The name is very appropriate!
What is special is it is just very laid back. a place you can settle in. and enjoy the atmosphere or truly amazing and talented entertainment that is offered. Many acts that play here go on to be be well known signed acts. I can’t say enough about the quality of the live music in a nice, intimate place where you can truly appreciate and interact with the performers.
Food is basic but well prepared. don’t expect knock your socks off but decent and filling. They have a really wide variety of beer — something for everyone. Beer prices have remained low and very affordable over the years I have enjoyed Down Home.
Also a great place to meet and talk to people in town. I have ended up sharing a table with strangers and a pitcher many times. So if you are new to town this is a great place to meet new people and just enjoy.
Everyone needs to try this place with live music of a kind that you enjoy. It is hard to not feel right at home here!!!

Let’s be for real… you don’t go here for the food. That being said, the food is OK. However it is a fantastic venue for love music. Just be sure to get there early if you want a table.

The Down Home is the best place in Johnson City to see live music, hands down. Everyone should see a show here at least once. So many greats have graced the stage here from Townes Van Zandt, Doc Watson, Bela Fleck, Old Crow Medicine Show and so many more… Open Hoot is free every Wednesday night and is always entertaining, even Kenny Chesney got his start here at the hoot… ha!.. The kitchen is always serving great food, you can always get a bowl of soup beans and cornbread or any other Mexican fare. The specials are always made with love and vary each night. If you haven’t ever been here or haven’t been in a while. it’s worth the trip. Also try some of Madeline’s homemade cheesecake. YUM!

A great place to be Friday and Saturday nights. Great down home atmosphere, good down home food, and the best down home music, the best every. Ed and Danny have been in business for 35 years. What does that tell ya.
