Atmosphere was nice. Kinda cool to see the brewery through glass windows. I had the stone oven pizza and it was amazing. My husband had the meatloaf and he said it was«ok». Prices were good. Stick to the pizza it’s great. My husband had the screw loose blonde ale and he really liked it. We got the around 6:30 pm on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet, however around 7 pm, it really picked up and the restaurant became full fast. Friendly staff, great place.

I’ve eaten here several times over the years and it’s always been a treat. Tonight, I got takeout and my experience was not so great. My burger was rare, while my husband’s was well done. The menu clearly states that the burgers are cooked medium well unless otherwise requested. The fries were hard and cold. Our takeout did not even come with napkins or cutlery. There were no other patrons in the restaurant at the time. The rare burger and stale fries = «intestinal distress».

The schnitzel was good, although I think I would’ve preferred to have it with the mushroom brown gravy and call it a jaeger schnitzel. The broccolli in my side came out cold. My girlfriend had the meatloaf and while that was tasty too, I’d classify the meatloaf as more of a salsbury steak. The two beers I tried, their scotch ale and their brown, were decent but not too distinctive. Service could have been better as our waitress kept forgetting about us. They were also out of their spent grain doggy biscuits — I think that is such a good idea, but maybe bump up the %10 you give to the animal shelter to %20. They are spent grains after all…

We love coming to Pecan Street Brewing any time we’re in Johnson City. It is a classic establishment that is always jumping. The downside is sometimes the service is crazy slow. Other times they are crazy fast. No idea what changes, but if you go in planning on having a long wait you’ll either not be disappointed or you’ll be pleasantly surprised. They only sell Texas beer and wine, this is a good thing for the beer, but a less good thing for the wine. Their chicken fired chicken is delicious, fish and chip deliver as well. You also can’t go wrong with a burger and a beer.

Tried the salad and chicken fried chicken. All was fine. It’s a nice spot to stop over for some grub and they have their own local sodas and brews.

Must have the house crafted Root Beer and Ginger Ale. With all the other places to eat in Johnson City to choose from you cant go wrong here.

What a great place! Great PSB Javelina Ale, incredible! Melonie, our very friendly and fun waitress made the experience memorable. She treated dad with love and respect(he’s wasn’t sure what he wanted) and didn’t get short with him for not«knowing» the menu. I am having a tooth issue and suggested the sweet potato fries with a great dipping sauce! We were seated quickly even at noon! Parking is great, it’s in the square, had the football game playing at the bar… this was a wonderful experience and I can’t thank Melonie enough for getting the«Dueling Banjo» song stuck in my head! I recommend this great place for a day trip from Austin. Bring your family because they welcome all. Remember this is a small town restaurant/brewery so leave the«big city Austin elite» attitude at the door.

I have come to this wonderful restaurant multiple times but just learned there is an outside patio. The weather was perfect today so we gave the outside a whirl. As always, we ordered the Portobello Mushrooms. Perfect as alway. Most of our group enjoyed the beers, each person ordering a different kind. I had a glass of the local Becker, which was terrific. My husband enjoyed the Beer Battered Fish with fries, another ordered the Pecan Street Chicken(a must try) & the rest order 8″ perfected cooked individual Brick Oven Cooked Pizzas. I cannot say ONE thing negative about this Brewery/Restaurant except it is 30 miles from Spring Branch. Please think about opening another location in our growing Smithson Valley area. It is so needed.

Excellent stop off the beaten path. Food and beer were both great! Chose the beer flight in order to try everything. California common wasn’t the best, but still would make a run at the miller and bud products. For food I had the pecan street pecan sweet chicken fried chicken. It’s a tenderized breast, battered and deep fried then top with pecan halves and a honey butter sauce. Pairs best with the Ten Penny Nail Ale. Collard greens and mashed potatoes were pretty delicious as well. My spouse ordered a pizza topped with spinach, kalamata olives, and Canadian bacon. Of course I tried it as well, the three cheese blend and marinara complement each other well without overpowering the subtle sourness of the house dough. They also serve Hill Country wineS, which complemented the pizza well. Overall I’d say this place makes for a great option if your are looking for out of the ordinary. We will definitely be back!

Good food, a little country with a trendy twist to the food. Had the pizza and the mozzarella with tomatoes, both were good. Wife had the Pecan Chicken Fried Chicken, good if you like sweet main dishes. Why I probably won’t go back. Service was horrible from the beginning. The restaurant had about 5 tables filled at a little before 3pm so probably not a busy time, and had about 5 waitresses. We waited for a while to be seated, waited longer to get a drink order as she was running by, it was 30min from the time we came in to the time our food order was taken. Then we had to listen to the waitstaff argue while we ate. The only thing that was quick was the bill and the waitress was rude when we asked for desert after she came with the bill. Then the bill came again quick, before the desert was even ready. One other thing, only got a half of glass of tea for the refill while I was there because they ran out and was waiting to make more tea. Who runs out of iced tea in Texas?

Came in on a Friday evening for dinner. Service was slow at first, but picked up once we were noticed. The beer was fantastic(the 1897IPA is phenomenal). Wife got the Chicken Fried Chicken and she ate everything on her plate. I got the Fish & Chips which was OK, fries were the best part. Ambience was cool, had a nice local feel. Would return.

This place is fantastic. If I lived in the Johnson City area I’d be a regular. Excellent beer, delicious food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and dog friendly. They even sell in-house made dog treats. This place will be a normal stop for me anytime I’m headed to or from Fredericksburg. I hade the Turkey and Cheddar sandwich and my husband had a pizza. We both enjoyed our meals and our Pecan Street brews. The dogs were happy with their Brewer’s Biscuits treats.

Staying in Fredericksburg, friends spoke highly of Johnson City and recommended we stop by Pecan Street should we take a drive out in that direction. After a short visit to Luckenbach, we decided to keep driving and stop in for lunch at Pecan Street. Now, I am a sucker for breweries and brew pubs, so I’m always willing to stop in for a pint. I ordered the Jackalope Brown Ale, which was delicious. I was tempted to order a flight, but opted not to since we had to drive back to Fredericksburg. For lunch, I rolled with the Pork Shank Redemption. We were contemplated splitting a pizza, but sadly we had pizza the night before so we passed on the famous brick oven pizzas they cook here. The two pork shanks themselves were great. Nice flavor, lots of meat, and tender, just as described. However, I felt that something was lacking with the dish, as it seemed a bit sparse. Perhaps throwing in another shank would even things out. So it was a solid visit to Pecan Street and Johnson City and I think we will definitely be back on our next hill country trip to try out their great pizzas and beer.

This is my second time coming here. First was over a year ago on the way out to Enchanted Rock, and I made it a point to stop here again. This place is great. They brew their own beer. This time I had their Ten Penny Nail amber ale, which was a great everyday beer, and their Black IPA(forgot what it was called), which scared me at first with the Black IPA moniker but I really liked it. Not too hoppy and the malt balanced it out. I’ve only every had the pizza here so I can’t comment on the other food offerings. But their pizza it fantastic. We did 2 build your owns from their list of ingredients: a supreme and a margherita type. Both turned out great though I’m a sucker for wood fired pizza. Both times I sat at the bar but this time I decided to explore as we heard live music from the back. I honestly had no idea there was a beer garden and a pool hall/shuffleboard loft in the back. I feel like I had been short-changing myself. I’ll just have to come back again. Twist my arm.

I guess any establishment that brews its own beer automatically deserves a three star rating. Don’t get me wrong, for Johnson City Pecan Street Brewing is the cats meow. Thinking of all the restaurants that have failed in this small town… I don’t really think we have enough space on the internet for that list. One tidbit that I immediately thought of when walking across the square towards the door; its not on the main 290⁄281 drag. Considering the past establishments that have failed even on the highway corridor; hopefully the promise of craft brewed beer will draw in the masses. The food was a mixed bag with my dining companions and I starting out with the fried portobello mushrooms. A few tops, simply cut into large sections served with chipotle ranch. A honest start and frankly one of the best parts of the meal. My picky kid even ate them thanks to a well cooked golden brown crust. I selected on the servers suggestion the fish and chips. The fish itself was perfectly fried paired with fries and cole slaw. The slaw had almost zero liquid components along with the cabbage; thankfully cue in an extra serving of the zesty ranch that accompanied the shrooms. Tartar sauce wasn’t that good either. My gripe and something that any rural restaurant should take to heart is you have to do something out of the mainstream to be relevant. Especially when folks are hell bent on driving right past your renamed town(thanks LBJ) and YOUR restaurant to destinations that have more dining options like Fredericksburg. Good beer, average food.

A local favorite located on the historic town square. They offer a variety of local brews. The menu has a variety of options. I had the field green pomegranate salad which was wonderful. If you’re ordering an entrée I suggest that you split the salad. The pizza is incredible. It is a thin crusted pizza baked on a wood fired oven. You customize your pizza with a variety of toppings. I chose the spinach pizza and loved it.

My Mom and I were out in the hill country today photographing the wildflowers — as I’m sure many other people are. We stopped in to Pecan Street Brewing for lunch and had a delightful experience. When we came in, around 1:45 they were still experiencing a bit of a lunch rush. That’s a pretty good sign of a place with decent brew and food. Despite the obvious rush of other patrons, we were seated at a nice table along the back wall within just a few minutes by an older hostess who was hustling her butt off. Seriously, she was getting stuff done! Anyways. our waitress was by immediately for our drink order and then back with drinks in a flash. We ordered… The Lemon & Garlic Hummus Flatbread — A large portion of hummus that is basically unfinishable. Bottomless. And warm half crispy, half soft flatbread that was juuuust right. Delicious — we pretty much finished the bread. Would absolutely order again! The Pastrami Sandwich — My Mom had this and said it was excellent. It comes on very dark rye bread — a sign of greatness. Turkey and Cheese Sandwich — This had turkey, cheese and herbed aoli — it was honestly just standard but it was good, too. The sides were lays potato chips — honestly, they need to step this up a bit. Beers: Neither of us are beer drinkers, but I got two $ 12 growlers to go for my husband which was great. I really think he’s going to enjoy them. If I don’t come back and change this, just go ahead and assume they were superb. Four stars — nice antique feel on the location, great staff and service, good eats… I’m coming back if I’m in Johnson City!

I certainly didn’t expect to find a top-notch brewpub in a sleepy little town like Johnson City, but Pecan Street Brewing turned out to be a great find. If you are driving through Johnson City on the main highway, you are not going to see this place; you need to take a detour into the old downtown. Check out the historic Johnson City Bank, built in 1885 and right around the corner from Pecan Street Brewing. When you walk in, you can see a wood-fired oven in the back left corner that fills the restaurant with the mouth-watering smell of pizza. The dining area is also on the left, but the star attraction is the bar on the right with all the house-made brews. If you love beer and it’s your first visit, you must order the flight. You get what I believe is a 3-oz pour of eight different beers. This selection will allow you to try almost all of the varieties on the house menu, which changes frequently. The signature Screw Loose Blonde is a fine choice for your tray, as is the Ten Penny Nail Ale. The cheese pizza is the perfect companion to your flight. It comes out of the wood-fired oven hot and loaded with cheese. Very impressive. Our bartender was very friendly and gave us tips and info on the different beers available. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to the Hill Country!

Shame on the kitchen of Pecan Street Brewing for serving me pungent, bitter, stiff & inedible collard greens, and lukewarm sweet potato fries that seemed to have dried out while they sat under a warmer. These were the 2 sides that I chose to accompany my Pecan Street Pecan Sweet Chicken. The chicken might have been impressive when it was freshly made, as it was a good recipe, but it suffered a bit in texture since it was made earlier. The portion of chicken was small for $ 12.95…2 small pieces. My Chocolate Pecan Milk Stout was a good brew. This was the only part of my experience that wasn’t disappointing. Hubs and I stopped here for a late lunch on a weekday. The place was mostly empty. I asked our server for help with the menu. She wasn’t enthusiastic about anything. Now I understand why!!! She was attentive, and we left her a decent tip. However, I wish she’d steered me away from the collard greens!!! My hubs was surprised to see me taste my collard greens, because they didn’t smell appetizing, and they looked oddly stiff, which you can see on the photo. It was my Unilocaler duty to taste them. They were tough, bitter, and strong tasting. I wanted to spit the bite out, but I choked it down. Did I earn a badge for this?! I sent the collard greens back, and the server let me substitute green beans. The green beans were ok, but they were boring, soft & overcooked, like cafeteria style, and they won’t win any awards. If you’ve been on a day-trip up in the hill country, you’ll know that it’s not easy to find a convenient lunch stop. That’s how we found ourselves in Johnson city. The Unilocal ap failed me here, because this restaurant is massively overrated, judging from our experience. I debated whether this restaurant deserves 1 or 2 stars. According to Unilocal,1 star means«Eek! methinks not.» Whereas 2 stars means«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» My meal at Pecan Street brewing is the worst food I’ve had in Texas. This includes 2 trips to Austin, as well as multiple meals at the Airports in Dallas and Austin. In fact, those collard greens are the worst veggie I’ve ever been served in any restaurant in the world! I love collard greens, but not at this place! If you are looking for great collard greens, try Ruby’s in Austin on 29th street. They serve beer as well. I’ve never had any bad food in Austin on my 2 trips to Austin. During my visit to Pecan Street Brewery in Johnson city, food standards were so low that I’d never encourage any of my Unilocal friends to dine at Pecan Street Brewery. It’s a shame, because they have a big space, and their beer was good.
