Better than some chains but still over stuffed with rice, too much rice. over priced and petty charges for extras which drives me nuts. It is a burrito and it should come with all the fixings. Do not nickel and dime me for guacamole or cheese. This is pretty standard practice for places like this so the definitely are not the only ones doing that but it does stop me from frequenting places. Mediocre food. Restaurant was clean. Parking was fairly ample. Staff nice.

This is my go to burrito place! I always get the vegetarian chorizo despite the fact that I’m not a vegetarian, it’s just that good! I love the wide variety of toppings(think pancheros and chipotle combined)! The staff is always friendly and the price isn’t bad. Make sure to save room for one of their giant brownies of Rice Krispie treats!

Bandit Burrito has hands down the best breakfast burrito in the Des Moines area. Any other breakfast burrito I’ve had has been eclipsed by this delicious, custom made creation. I walked in and told the employee that I hadn’t been here before, and he was super friendly and walked me through step by step. Great service and a delicious burrito? You’re wrong, Unilocal, burritos are a food group!

Love the choice of a small burrito, and a little rice! My choice is pork, of course! Lots of veggies to go on top and love a good medium hot sauce!!! Several different kinds of shells, and chicken an beef are also available! And the clerks will accommodate you on your choice of sauces! If you want some sweatness, I highly recommend you also get the industrial sized rice crispy treat thats individually wrapped! Yum, yum! The place is especially clean, and I love the personalization they give you! Thanx, Bandit Burrito!

I stopped by Burrito Bandit on a quest for a breakfast burrito one morning. Super disappointed. The meat looked like it came out of a food processing plant, not from a cow, and tasted like salt rubber, not salty rubber, just rubber coated in a layer of salt. The rest of the burrito tasted sort of okay because it was just cheese and tortilla, which is pretty hard to screw up. I recommend taking your breakfast burrito quests elsewhere.

Shucks… it’s been a little while since I’ve been to Bandit Burrito but we shall test my memory… I went here for lunch one day because I’d heard it’s got some unique veggie options and it was near my place of work(go J-Town). From what I recall they have a soy-rizo option(which Fighting and Chipotle) also have. The soy-rizo was fine but I enjoyed their unique sauces and fillings — much like Fighting. I still think I like Fighting Burrito more but I would definitely go back to Bandit — especially considering its proximity to work. Give it a try!

Far and away the best burrito place in the Des Moines area. When presented the choice between Bandit or Chipotle or Qdoba, I will choose Bandit every time. I have been going here for years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. The most distinctive part of Bandit’s menu is their vegetarian chorizo. I am a meat eater, but I never order chicken or steak for my burrito. It will always be the chorizo. It has a flavor unlike anything you can get at any other burrito place. So sweet and subtly spicy. It does take a little bit longer for them to cook, so you have to ask for it right when you walk in, but it is worth the extra minute of waiting. If I have to think of any suggestions, it would be that they have started putting slightly less of everything on the burritos. I’m sure this is done with an eye toward maximizing profit, so I can’t blame them too much, but let’s just try putting more than like, one scoop of beans in there. Beans aren’t going to financially break your back! But yeah, Bandit Burrito is excellent, and if there was a location right by my house, I would probably eat there three times a week.

Haven’t been to this place in about 3 years and my mouth still waters of the thought of their burritos. Such a gem! Found this place cruising around the Des Moines area and will definitely stop in when I return for a visit!

I hadn’t been to Bandit Burrito for quite a while, as I don’t get out to Johnston very often. I remembered recently why this place is deserving of a trip. It’s a place where you at the counter and watch them make your food. They have great protein selections, including vegetarian and vegan options. On this visit, I chose the chicken burrito on a red pepper tortilla and stuffed it full of toppings like a lime sour cream, tomatillo salsa, black beans and rice. The guys working were laughing and having a good time, and it made the environment a lot of fun to be in. They have great guacamole and fresh chips. It was definitely worth the visit as I left stuffed and planning my next trip to Johnston!

Walking in the place looks fairly nice and clean but does nothing to distinguish itself. The décor is almost exactly like a Fighting Burrito or similar place; so are the prices. At first bite their burritos seemed pretty good but my friend and I soon discovered that that wasn’t entirely true. The rice was incredibly hard. Maybe it wasn’t cooked properly. Maybe it was incredibly dry. What I do know is that it was borderline inedible and my friend stopped eating because of it. There is no excuse for that lack of quality. I’m sure that had we visited some other day then maybe we would’ve been spared a bad experience, however, first impressions are lasting impressions.

Great breakfast burritos! Super cheap and very affordable. You can even buy a pre-made one if your in a hurry. They have a variety of things you can place in it like salsa, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, etc. Also don’t forget that they have giant homemade rice crispy squares check out. Some things to keep in mind is they are vegan friendly and pretty good about telling you what’s in stuff. The staff is friendly and the place is well kept and clean. Better than the gas station burrito across the street for the same price!

Ordered a burrito and got the crazy spicy sauce. Wasn’t spicy at all. The guys that worked behind the counter were pretty cool and nice though. I originally wanted the vegan chorizo but they told me it would take about 20 minutes to prepare that. Sigh. Burrito was solid otherwise.

*Vegans of Iowa* There isn’t a burrito place in the Des Moines area that can touch this place. Vegans/vegetarians along with straight up meat eaters always love this place. Both also love the vegan chorizo. Most my meat eating friends even order it regularly. It just comes down to having a better selection of ingredients, and those ingredients being fresher and more flavorful than other burrito places.

We were in WDM, did a quick Unilocal search for an affordable place to eat in the area, and happily were led here. Amongst the best burritos I have ever had! It’s much like Subway in that you walk your burrito, from start to finish, along as the server piles on the fillings you choose. I went with a cheese/jalapeño tortilla with beef for my meat choice, while my teenage son had chicken in his wheat tortilla. By the time we got through the line, both of our burritos were massive. They were juicy, and filled to the brim with flavor. This place knows what it is, and it does it job well. Cheap, good-tasting food guarantees I will be back again.

Bandit is my favorite burrito joint in the area, and it is local so that is always a plus. I love all of the options. They always have fajita-style veggies, but everyday they have another different veggie to choose from(carrots, cauliflower, mushrooms, etc). Some of the add-ons are extra, but they usually do a good job of telling you beforehand. I do think that charging extra for some sour cream is kind of dumb. I get that queso and guacamole should be extra, but a scoop of sour cream? Overall, very good and staff is very helpful/friendly. Get a giant rice krispy treat to share also. Support Local!

Finally able to try this place out after seeing so many commercials about it and hearing positive things about it! It is a little different from other burrito places, main difference is the multiple customization options! Choose your tortilla flavors and after that it is just constant stream of options to put on your burrito. There are many choices that cost extra, they will let you know. I also got chips and queso to finish because the burrito was not very filling. Overall, the burrito was okay, but not on par with Chipotle, Pancheros, or even Qdoba! The flavor was slightly off the desired taste and it was not as filling as the competitions places. The chips and queso were okay, no where near my favorite from Pancheros. The staff was pretty friendly and the place was clean.

Not a fan. We placed a pick up order and my husband arrived to get it and got yelled at when he showed up to get my soyrizo burrito for not ordering it ahead of time… Which we did. I usually don’t have issues with places but he said they didn’t seem apologetic after they realized they made a mistake. This was maybe a year and a half ago. Never returned. This was one of two experiences. The first one was blah also. The food was mediocre. Very disappointed in this business model and their employees.
