I had Verde on my list of places I wanted to go once we moved out this way. So happy I did. The owner is really cool and loves to share his knowledge of wines(and other things). We very much enjoyed our time on the vineyard. We can’t wait for the weather to change so we can pack a lunch and drink wine on the property! He has free range chickens running around too.

A great place to have a romantic wine tasting. The property is beautiful and you can buy a bottle for a picnic near the water or vineyard. The wine tasting is only 3 dollar for four tastings of their wine. Such a hidden gem!

I went here on Sunday for a tasting and tour and it was fantastic. When we pulled in we didn’t know what to expect because it was down a long dirt road. When we arrived you see a cute farm house, a barn, the vineyard full of grapes and the winemaking/tasting house. It was so beautiful! We were greeted by the wine tour guide and the vineyard owner. We tasted 4 different wines for $ 3 each. Then got a mini tour or the vineyard. It was so awesome! We bought a bottle of wine for $ 17 and enjoyed it while walking round the vineyard and admiring the landscape. I will definitely be going back! I’d suggest bringing a little snack or picnic, they have Adirondack chairs and tables scattered throughout the vineyard.

Verde Vineyards is a little winery located in the most unlikely place. I came from a winery in Cumberland after hearing that this one was close by. With only four wines(one of which was already sold out) it is unlikely that I would have come othwise. Still, for $ 3, we tried the Cayuga White — a tad drier than a Chardonnay with a slight frizzante; the Surveyor — a smooth red blend with a merlot base; and the St. Croix — a smokey red with a complex set of flavors. I loved talking to our host about the wines, the local vineyards in New England, and the overall experience of winemaking. However, I left a tad disappointed that we did not tour the grounds(although the grounds were beautiful and so was the weather). Yet at 4pm on a Saturday, there were no customers aside from my company and I, the owner was not present. I believe I will just have to come back another time to see the passion for winemaking. After all, I give huge compliments to a person that opens a vineyard in the difficult New England conditions and does not push only fruity wines from the local area.

An idyllic location producing some superb wines. Mr. Verde’s efforts are a gift to any oenophile. Please get in your car, sneakers, or recumbent two wheeler, and head straight to Verde Vineyards. Ian was knowledgeable and enthusiastic behind the counter providing samples for our party.

Jim is a wonderful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, passionate vintner full of a wealth of scientifically-based information. I learned so much on the tour of his vineyard. I tried 4 different wines in the(beautiful) tasting room, and the tasting is a bargain at $ 3. I love the Cayuga White and their Surveyor red blend(Cab Franc/Merlot/Blaufrankisch). They have a red that’s 100% St. Croix that I personally didn’t care for but others on the tour with me were big fans of. I love that he’s planting different varietals than average… not only are the wines delicious but also unique. It’s great that a vineyard like this is so close by! Definitely worth a tour. You’ll most definitely be compelled to bring a bunch of bottles home to share with family and friends and they’ll all remark on how delicious these Johnston wines are! A gem.

Visited Verde Vineyards about two months ago. Mr Verde is both passionate and knowledgeable. Actually, not just about wines, but life in general! He had three wines to sample and for sale, two reds and a white. All three were worth buying. But, we settled on two. The white, which he named for his Mother and Surveyor which he named for his Father. I enjoy wines, but I’m far from an expert. Having said that, I thought Surveyor was outstanding! We are heading back this weekend with family, for a «second opinion»! See you there!

I came across Verde after a recommendation from another Unilocaler lead me to their page(thanks, Allison!). Yes, I was just as surprised as you are by its location. A gorgeous vineyard in Johnston? It’s true! As you drive down the dirt road leading to the vineyard you are transported to anywhere but the town it is technically a part of. As my group and I started to approach the tasting room, the owner, Jim Verde, came out and introduced himself to us and invited us to join him as he tested the sugar levels on one strain of the grapes. Once we started to head down towards the grapes with him, other couples joined our now formed tour. Jim was an outstanding host and made the experience a fun and educational one. You know this man has a passion and he’s ready and willing to share it with anyone interested. Post tour we headed into the stunning tasting room. I mean, straight out of Sonoma. We knew that someone as well versed and passionate about the grapes and process as Jim was would produce fantastic wines and we were not disappointed. After the tasting, we took a bottle of red with us to a picnic table on the edge of the lawn looking out onto the Scituate Reservoir. All in all, couldn’t have asked for better wine in a better locale. Oh, and did I mention the vineyard is entirely sustainable? Jim doesn’t just produce great wines, he generates his own energy as well! This is an absolute must if you’re in the area!

The tour at Verde Vineyards, by its owner Jim Verde was very educational and interesting. Nice suttle atmosphere and the«WINE». Very good… Three different vaieties and a state of the art facility… I would suggest you put this place on your«list» of things to do!!! Its well worth a short ride to Johnston, and donot forget to say«hello» to all the chickens running around.

You have to see this place to believe it. First, it’s right off a very busy strip of Route 6 in Johnston. As you approach the property on the long winding drive, and get a view of the lake, you’ll swear you’re in NH. The property is beautiful and Jim Verde has built an equally beautiful tasting room. For now he’s only got two wines but I hear that is going to change in the very near future — stay tuned!

I’ve been to Napa Valley and a couple vineyards in RI, and by far Verde Vineyards is the best wine tasting and tour I’ve ever been. Jim is passionate and knowledgeable. His tour is truly a share of his passion, not a way to earn extra money(it’s complimentary) from tourist. I’ve learnt so much about wine making today from the perspective of a real maker and I enjoyed every minute of it. He served two wines, both are delightful. I liked the way he explained how wine should be tasted. I am not a wine person but I have my share of good and bad wine and I know what i like. I love the aroma of his wine and they taste great. I got a bottle(his white will be available in 6 weeks, I will probably go back for it) and can’t wait to share with my friends: D btw, nice area to picnic too. It is a very welcoming place

What a great place, Jim the wine maker/owner has a lot of knowledge to share, plus two great wines! It’s not your average run of the mill vineyard, you will leave Verde Vineyard having learned a thing or two. If you enjoy going local wineries and having some one on one time with the wine maker /owner such as I then defiantly stop in for a complimentary tasting at Verde Vineyard. Verde vineyard makes two wines a St. Croix & Cayuga White both are quite good. It was too snowy to walk around outside but the little bit that we saw was gorgeous, I can’t wait to go back in the Spring/Summer to check out the vines and chat some more with Jim.

What a gem! I am told to spread the word of how wonderful this place is, but then, you might go and buy the St. Croix for yourself. I recommend it highly. Just please leave me another bottle or two. Giacomo Verde is so fun and his enthusiasm for wine is definitely contagious. I am planning to do a tour this summer. Who knew wine grew in Johnston?! RI has so much beauty and potential and we need more places like Verde Vineyards to be a destination MUST. Have some time on your hands? Go visit the tasting room which is simply stunning. The St. Croix is a wonderfully smooth and delicious red. I would like to say it went well with the dinner I planned to have it with, but my neighbor and I pretty much enjoyed it prior to cooking. whoops! Good thing I got that second bottle! Grazie Giacomo!

Jim verde is authentic as i gets! He’s currently offering A St. Croix red, with a tasty, long finish. Its out of this world and is perfectly priced. This is not your traditional winery, so dont expect it to be like anything youve experienced before. Mr Verde has so much knowledge in wine making and grapes and the fermenting process, you will leave his place with a smile and feeling like you just got a free lesson on the wine making process. He cant help himself and sharing his passion and knowledge, so get ready to try a great wine and spend an hour learning a little something. You wont be disappointed. I can not wait to go and help out and take some seminars, make sure to get on his mailing list. Ps this is low sulfites and you all know what that means!!! Salute

I was sick of pavement and have been craving a quick escape and a something a little different than my usual eating escapes in Providence. This was perfect. I had a wonderful time here chatting with the wine maker and his wife about the vineyard and his wines. We were able to sample a bottle of St. Croix and had a nice time chatting about the wine making process and how to taste wine He is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable and I wouldn’t hesitate to return. I plan to bring my wine expert friends later in the year. Even though we visited to late in the year to see the grapes on the wines, the property was still gorgeous and the tasting room is lovely too. High recommended. Take a trip and come up here, there are also some great farms in the area too.

Probably one of the best vineyards I’ve ever visited. Owner and staff are very friendly, they just finished their new tasting room which looks great, owner took us on a tour showed us what the wine was like before it matured and was bottled up. He had a story about everything including where the wood from the tasting room floors came from to how he got his solar panels. Best part is its about 5 min from where I live. It will definitely be a place I bring my friends who come up to visit!

You would never know this was Johnston. I’m lucky to live down the street from this gem and we grab bottles of wine quite frequently. I have never liked red wine but i LOVE the red made here. The owner Jim is an amazing soul who puts a lot into the vineyard. He enjoys sharing that with visitors. Going here is like taking a mini-vacation up to Vermont, except it’s right in our back yard.

What an adorable little vineyard! Privately owned by Jim Verde, who works tirelessly to create an environmentally green vineyard. Show up Friday-Sunday 11−5pm, and Jim will give you a tour, teach you all about his grapes, and even let you try some of his wine. If you’re interested in learning more about wine, and how it’s made — and how Johnston has a whole lot more going on than just the dump — you’ll want to pay Verde Vineyards a visit. Just park your car, and honk. Jim will be out to greet you!
