To this day I have not had a warm right out of the oven glazed raised donut or sugar raised donut like I had here. They were the best. Warm fresh cinnamon rolls or sticky buns that melted in your mouth. They kept baking and bringing it out fresh and warm while the hoards of customers held onto their number and prayed the items they wanted did not sell out, because when they were done, they were done. The fresh made breads were still so fresh and had to be carried individually so they were not squeezed too much. The aromas filled the air and hit you the minute you opened their door. Why do I use such past tense when writing this review? Because this family owned bakery has closed it’s doors. Memories from my childhood and every Sunday after church we visited Yost Maid. Anytime I came back into town I was sure to pay them a visit. Why does Unilocal still have it listed and why is it still alive even though the main doors to the public have closed? Check out the picture… Yost’s became famous for their prepackaged gobs and raisin filled cookies and sold them in the store and in most of the surrounding stores, where you can still find them. I’ve been running in and out of Johnstown for the past 8 weeks or so and hubby loves their gobs and always says, «Drive careful, call me when you get there and don’t forget my gobs»! Every time I pick up a few of Yost’s gobs or raisin filled cookies I’m reminded of their fresh warm glazed or sugar raised donuts. Tears.
