Always make a stop here for the BEST Gyros on the planet! Ask for an extra pita because you will need it!

I have been going to see the crew here for 15 yrs and have never been disappointed. I say crew as the same two gents have been manning the kitchen the whole time…, that speaks of loyalty and taking care of your people. From the obvious family feeding gyro plate to the cold subs(sliced to order)…it has all been great. Sure they may double dip his fries once and awhile but not since he started using the coated fries and isn’t that par for a great little greasy spoon. Btw my personal fave is the Maxwell St. polish… he is the ONLY guy in the city to do it right. Grilled/fried with grilled onions, mustard and sport peppers. Foot long on top of it… and the combo is $ 7.50 i believe. Keep rocking Pete and crew!

Everyone talks about the gyro here but you might want to take a break and try something else. My favourite meal here is the unassuming steak BURRITO! Yes! You can see the real steak pieces. The flavour is amazing and it is huge. if you happen to split the burrito, then you might have room for a chocolate shake made with CHOCOLATE ice cream. Yummy!

This is thier fried zucchini. Obviously, they fry it early, let it ferment for a few hours, refry again to a lightly burnt crust that holds pockets of grease. Place was great the first decade I’ve been a patron. But since the owner Pete doesn’t ever come in anymore, corners seem to being cut.

Went here yesterday. Had a cheeseburger combo. The patty could’ve been a little bit bigger and the fry size could’ve been bigger as well. Food was still good overall.

This restaurant is the gem of Joliet. Decorated to perfection this place reeks of class. It appears to be a temple from the out side and the inside is cleaner than a hospital. True culinary experts!

I just had my first Gyro from Gyro Shack and it won’t be my last! The meat is so flavorful and tender. The gyro plate comes with an obscene amount of meat! Also with Feta cheese, tomatoes, calamata olives and the wonderful cucumber sauce. All this for around 8 bucks! Enough for 2 meals. Ask for an extra pita though, you’ll need it!

On the recommendation of two co-workers, I finally decided to try out the Gyro Shack. I have driven past this«shack» plenty of times over the years and always kind of wondered about it. Like other reviewers said, it’s a small place that mainly consists of a few stools and a place to order. The prices all seem pretty fair, and the menu looked pretty awesome! I ordered the gyro plate to bring home for dinner, which were the best gyros I have found west of New Lenox! Helpful Hint– the plate only comes with one pita and one sauce, even though there is enough meat to feed 4 people. The plate also came with feta cheese, which is always nice! I will definitely be keeping this place in mind when I need some gyros or to try the other food here.

Best gyro I’ve ever had! The dinners come fully loaded and can easily feed three. I highly recommend wearing stretch pants, or slitting your jeans up the sides of the waist before you go so you have more room to eat.

I can see some easily missing this as its literally a tiny shack in a part of town that might deter some out-of-towners due to the area, but its not as bad as it looks. Inside had classic sitting booths against the wall that you find in fast food joints. Menu was massive as they had gyros, burgers, poorboys, steak sandwiches, mexican, and even had a separate counter for ice cream and milkshakes. Got a gyro plate and a baklava for $ 11. The guy’s voice at the counter sounded like James Earl Jones. You might want to ask for extra pitas as you can easily make 4 sandwiches with the amount of meat/tomato/onion that’s given. The baklava was very good, wasn’t expecting it to be good for some reason. Credit cards are accepted on purchases of $ 5+.

This place appeals to all demographics — when I was there today, I saw both a guy with a giant neck tattoo and a dude in business clothes working on his laptop. It would appear that everybody loves good food at a great bargain. My advice is to round up some friends and order the gyro plate. For $ 6.99, you get a huge heap of meat, onions, tomatoes, feta cheese and kalamata olives with french fries buried under it. Order a few extra pitas and additional containers of sauce because this thing is designed to be shared. My coworkers and I managed to split it among five people and each of us had a gyro full of meat and toppings to enjoy. The appetizers are massive, too. For under $ 4, you get probably 20 or more fried mushrooms. The cheese fries arrive drowning in cheese sauce and have to be eaten with a fork — the mark of good cheese fries, in my book. Oh, but don’t plan on eating there. There are only a few stools by the window and a handful of picnic tables outside. This is a definitely a «take it home and enjoy it» sort of joint. When they call it a shack, they’re not kidding — that’s the size it is. It isn’t fancy and the neighborhood is a little shady — I passed both a «sensual boutique» and a taxidermist to get there — but I’ll take great food over pretension any day.

This is a great place, the food is pretty good, prices are fair, and on the Gyro Platter two maybe three people can eat off of it. Dave
