I was traveling through town with my family. We stayed at the Drury, which offers food from 5:30 to 7:00. We got in around 5:45 and my family was starving, so they all had dinner with what they offered and then we went for a swim. I had a hunkering for pizza, so I turned to my Unilocal friends for a local pizza joint. I had it delivered and it was awesome! I got the carnivore with onions on their original crust. Here is the kicker, after swimming for over an hour, my girls were hungry and asked for a piece. They are very picky and usually only like cheese pizza. After taking the onions off they both said it was one of the best they ever had and asked for a second piece(luckily I wanted left overs and ordered a large). I wish we had one in St. Louis…

Love Gusano’s pizza — especially the Chicago style crust! They also have a great selection of beers.

I’m born and raised an hour outside of Chicago. And Gusano’s deep dish pizza is «Shut-the-front-door» divine. The salads are huge, their moose head pizza is my favorite(besides the deep-dish) And this location’s seating is the best. You’d never have to wait for a seat, and the servers are all the sweetest!

The only thing more disappointing than a pizza place not offering gluten-free pizza is a place having horrible gluten-free pizza. Honestly the crust was like cardboard. There’s so many great gluten-free pizza crusts on the market that it’s not difficult to offer a great option for gluten-free customers. The sauce was okay, not the best, but would’ve been 3 stars if the crust was edible.

Maybe I’m just lucky but I don’t get the negative reviews. I eat here every year when I’m in the area and have not once received bad service or a lousy pizza. I ate there last night and it was good as ever. I had a small Chicago style pizza, at my server’s recommendation. I was afraid it would be too much sauce for my liking but turns out, it was very tasty! I’ll order it again next time. It tends to be a bit loud in there with the games on, a crowd, and lousy acoustics. Generally I eat alone so it’s not a big deal for me. I’m looking forward to my next pizza there.

It’s a bit of a wait for carryout or dine in but so far the wait is made worthwhile with a bar and a cool barkeep. Levi chatted with me a bit and proved to be knowledgeable with his brews and was a good guy, putting up with my random waiting a bit rambleings. The place is a tad loud from structural acoustics but not a big deal when you are alone! Food thus far is tasty, but a must to try with some unique(for joplin) toppings. Actually worth the 30 to 45 minute wait if you are a pizza fan!

What is up with all the bad reviews? We love, love, love their Chicago Style Pizza! Have eaten here many times. It does take a while especially to get the Chicago Style because it has to cook for about 30 minutes. This isn’t fast food people. Have always been treated well by the staff. The dinner salad is great and big enough for 2 people to split. The only problem I have here is the noise level. The games on the TV’s don’t need to have the volume blasting. You can’t understand them anyway because the place is usually full and lots of people talking. Bad acoustics but that won’t stop us from going there for the best pizza ever! Oh and we paid $ 25 for the extra large Chicago style. And that’s a lot of food.

Worst service ever… should have listened to my self after reading all the bad reviews. Run people run. Don’t go there. Ever. Unfortunately for me. and fortunately for them this was the only close gluten free place I could eat at so late. after CALLING in my pizza. Which was very simple(pepperoni/blk olives). Was told 20 minutes. I get there .paid.was told a few more minutest.(ok no big deal). Waited patiently. Pizza brought out. Asked if this was my order.(it wasn’t). So she sd ok. Took it back. Said nothing else. Came back few minutes later. Asked again what I ordered.(I politely sd pepperoni/blk olive). Time goes by. STILL waiting. 42:36.93 minutes later it was finally ready. Brought me 2 pizzas because they messed up the first one and had to remake it. The girl who waited on me wasnt very friendly. Had the personality of a rock. AND the PLACETHATNIGHT .! Was EMPTY. Hardly anyone there.(i took pictures to show it was) so really no reason. NOEXCUSE for the Long Wait .! It was right around 8pm when i called it in. They didn’t close toll 10. so still had plenty of time before closing. again really no excuse for the bad service. It would not have been that bad had they just Owned up to it in the First place and said«they messed up My pizza. going to make me another one .and that it would be a bit. so very sorry». But No. Nothing. Left me hanging. Just let me sit there for almost 45 minutes for a simple pizza(that really wasn’t all that good) on a empty night. So lesson here. Please people. Listen to the BADREVIEWS. They are there for a reason.!!

I gave it a 2 because it was good until I got food poisoning from it and puked my guts up for 3 days. I can still taste it just thinking about it. I’m afraid to eat it again. Service was only good once. In all I ate here 5 times. We had a work event there as well, it was a disaster. People stood in line for just one slice for 30 minutes. Drinks were refilled fast that night though.

No. Chicago style review: The crust was soggy and like a sponge. The pizza fell apart when you picked it up and all you can taste is the garlic in the sauce. The price is OUTRAGEOUS for a small pizza it was 25 $. Come on.

20 mins waiting and no pizza or breadsticks. 27 mins in and pizza arrives before the appetizer. Nice staff but a bland and gummy crusty.

Gussno’s has very good pizza and friendly staff. We have always had more of a wait than expected, but it is pizza so I cut some slack for that. The first time we went was on a Monday night a several months ago. We ask if they had any specials and the waitress told us the usuall. Then my wife ask if they had any childrens specials and she told us that kids got a small one top and milk for 99cents on Monday nights. If you don’t specifically ask about the kids special they will not tell you about it, or at least she didn’t. The pizza was delicious but expensive when compared to the usual cost of pizza in our area. The place was nice and clean. The staff were all very friendly. We will be back but not too often due to the price.

I’m a vegetarian, so I usually order Gusano’s vegetarian pizza which they call the Herbivore Delight. It’s a refreshing change from the usual vegetarian pizzas you’ll get from other restaurants that are really just cheese pizzas with a smattering of veggies. The Herbivore is covered with mushrooms, purple onions, tomatoes, green peppers and black olives. Delicious. Gusano’s offers two kinds of crusts, what they call«traditional» and«Chicago style». I’ve only had the traditional, which is thin, crispy and a great base for the rest of the pizza, mainly because it doesn’t have a strong, competing flavor. This too is a welcome change from the crusts served by other restaurants that are trying to make distinctive pizzas by offering pizzas with overpowering crusts. Think Domino’s cheese-stuffed whatever, or whatever gimmicky gore they’re calling food. Gusano’s crust is just good, plain crust, and it makes the rest of the pizza amazing. Another great vegetarian option is their calzone. Along with the fresh vegetables inside the calzone – I get spinach and mushroom – , the crust is amazing.

I went there for a birthday party, the bar area was crowded but the area our party sat at was not, ordered a water to drink, it came 15 minutes later. I ordered a Italian combo and 45 minutes later it comes. The beef was tender and good and the Italian sausage was delicious but the Au jus was so salty that I could not eat it. Went to the restroom and there were empty whisky bottles laying around and trash all over the floor. Well I think I would go there again to try the pizza but for another $ 9.00 sandwich and a small bag of chips I think not.

I don’t actually like Chicago-style pizza, but the thin-crust here is excellent. And it tastes even better cold the next day! Plenty of seating, lots of TVs if you’re here to watch the game. Fair warning, it can get pretty loud, especially if you’re seated near a big group.

Bad bad bad experience today. Thought we would try Gusano’s today for lunch. Being that it’s in our neighborhood, we thought we may add it to our rotation for those last-minute I-don’t-wanna-cook moments. Sadly, this will never ever ever ever happen. Ordered some honey habanero wings and a couple of Italian beef sandwiches. We were waiting for quite some time, even though the place wasn’t super busy. Maybe we stumped the zoo because we ordered sandwiches instead of pizza? Overheard our server tell another table it was her first day. So that explained her awkwardness when she was taking our order. That’s okay. However, I do think it was poor management for her to be thrown out on the floor without another server to shadow. Wings come. I don’t eat wings because I find them incredibly boring. However, Lucus loves them and he was paying so do whatever you want honey! Lemme tell you. They did not look pretty. They looked like what a raw chicken wing covered in sauce would look like. Terrible visual right? He said they were boiled, not crispy at all. And the skin was flappy and loose. When has anyone ever desired something flappy and loose? You understand. Set aside. Next. The Italian beef sandwiches came out. Kitchen or server got the order wrong so they had to redo. It happens. But when they finally came out, it was just so incredibly unimpressive. The most average roast beef you can imagine. And the giardiniera they serve with it was all green. No carrots, cauliflower, onions. And flavor was really olive-y. Just simply not good. The one-star rating is attributed solely to the bag of Lay’s potato chips served with the sandwich. Look, if pizza is your forte, then stick with pizza. Seems like the other reviewers enjoyed their pizza. But our Italian beef sandwiches were designated as a Gusano’s favorite, and I’m just very very confused by that. Massive epic fail. We will never go back.

I ordered the vegetarian pizza and it was amazing! Full of flavor. The vegetables were fresh, the crust was cooked perfectly, and the seasoning was tasty and not overpowering. My husband ordered beer that was on tap. Their beer menu is extensive, and they will give you a sample to try before committing to a glass. Excellent food. We will definitely be back!

Hubby and I did relief work in Joplin last week during a heatwave. After several hours of working outside, we were so happy to find a chilled atmosphere and delicious food at Gusano’s! We ordered the Signature Spinach pizza with chicken and tomatoes. It tasted even better than it sounds! I normally can’t eat more than two large pieces, but this pie made me go for a third. The table next to us ordered the same thing because we raved it about so much. Definitely worth the wait.
