If I could give 0 stars, I would. Horrible experience, horrific customer service. They ‘misplaced’ my wedding cake order and delivered a cake(not my flavors or fillings) 2.5 hours late. The cake fell completely apart when it was cut and I ended up with nothing salvageable for my anniversary. My guests got plates of crumbs and runny icing and I was cometely embarrassed. When we contacted them they told us it was our fault because we should have cut it with a wet knife soaked in hot water. WHAT? ! This cake was purchased by my MIL who just had transplant surgery. She came to the wedding just wanting to see the cake, but had to leave before it even got there. The Smallcakes owner did not care, and when I told her husband I wanted them to refund my MIL’s money, this incredibly rude man told me ‘good luck’. Tell everyone you know to STEERCLEAR of this joke of a business.

I love cupcakes. The more unique the better. I mean, why settle for a chocolate or vanilla cupcake when you can have a Fat Elvis or a Stuffed French Toast? Smallcakes is really good at what they do. Very creative, price is decent, and customer service is top notch. My husband and I pick up Smallcakes maybe twice a month on the weekend as a treat to ourselves. He usually gets anything chocolate, but I always try to pick the most unique cupcake available. I’ve almost tried them all I think, except the basic ones. This past weekend I had a Snickers, and prior to that I had a Pink Champagne, and prior to that I had a Lemon Curd. I’ve been eating here since they’ve been open and only one time did I have a cupcake that was not my favorite. It was a cherry cupcake that had crushed cherry hard candy sprinkled on top. It didn’t taste very cherry-y. That was well over a year ago; they could have fixed it by now, I don’t know. They also make very delicious cakes. Since December, I’ve bought three birthday cakes. Everyone always loves them, and they’re so beautiful to boot. Thank you, Smallcakes, for what you do. Also for being near my house and way way way too accessible.

I came here with a group of friends. We all got different cupcakes so we could sample multiple flavors. We had a total of 6 cupcakes and the only one that stood out to me was the red velvet. If you’re taking the cupcakes to go, be careful. They are top heavy and flip over very easily. There was a sign inside the store saying that they won’t replace cupcakes that fall over which gives me the impression that this is a common occurrence. We dined in and found out that each cupcake tipped over after one bite. Overall, this is not a bad place to stop by if you’re in the mood for some sweets. You’re looking at spending about $ 3.25 per cupcake. For a bakery, Smallcakes has pretty long hours.

We trusted these people with our daughter’s birthday cake. Bad idea. Their first pass was terrible, wrong colors, amateurish decorating, etc. Even the cashier said«Oh my!» when she opened the box to show us. We gave them a second chance as we were pressed for time with no other options. Their second pass was even worse. At that point, I think knowing thats as good as they could do, became very rude and hateful to our family and asked us to go elsewhere. Consider yourself warned.

I’d heard great things about the new Smallcakes Cupcakery in Joplin’s Chase Colton Plaza. I took my mom there for a treat a couple of weekends ago, and we didn’t have the greatest experience. The business seemed small and dark due to the chocolate colored walls, and the cupcakes were not displayed in an appetizing manner. At $ 3 per cupcake, the price was in line with what we expected to pay, but the cupcakes did not really live up to the raves we’d heard. I got the Pink Chocolate cupcake which seemed like a boxed cake mix with really light and airy pink frosting and sugar sprinkles. It was decent. However, my mom opted for the Hostess style chocolate cupcake and it was pretty terrible to be honest. The frosting tasted like cheap canned frosting(or worse) and there was barely any filling at all. They have a rather menacing sign that warns diners«If you turn your cupcake on the side we will NOT replace it», and the young woman working the counter seemed far less than enthused to be there. She also showed a little annoyance when my mom asked her a couple of friendly questions like how long they’d been open and which cupcakes were most popular. I’d like to give Smallcakes a higher rating than 2 stars especially since friends have raved, but after much consideration that’s all I’ve got for this place. I will return and possibly update and improve my rating if there’s a better experience next time.
