We took David’s cemetery tour in the late afternoon one recent cloudy day(April 2014). An hour and a half long, it was definitely worth the money — especially as a private tour for just the two of us. David knows his local history and lore, and weaved an intriguing story. David Lewis is the epitome of small town America — a fourth-generation Julian resident with his very own apple orchard! With an academic background in research, as well as an understanding of historical preservation, I am *tremendously* impressed by the«digging» David has done to uncover the story of this little town. With only personal satisfaction to gain, David has poured his time and money into preserving the very essence of Julian — something I feel he has done quite well. Any historian can tell you the frustrations of this type of work — every question answered only creates a dozen more unanswerable questions! David has gone to great lengths to fill in the gaps — even flying to various spots to do research and interviews(all on his own dime, to boot). I really can’t speak more highly of David Lewis’ Historical Tours of Julian. A few side notes: –Tours are by appointment. Contact David via email — he was always quick to respond and very communicative about his services. –No ghost stories here — just some good old fashioned history. –Participate! I have found that tour guides are a wealth of knowledge and love sharing what they know with others. If you have a question or like to speculate about why something happened, let David know — it’s likely he’s been contemplating that particular subject, too. I hope you enjoy your tour as much as I did!
