Stone fired pizza was great. View of the river from deck was beautiful. Sad I don’t live closer.

A group of my co-workers and I went here while we were in the area on business and the food was delicious. The view is great as the place is situated on the river, with incredible views. The drink I ordered stands out in my mind the most because it was so different and delicious, a lavender infused Italian soda. I highly recommend this if you want something that is refreshing and little bit magical.

I stopped by when I was on 299 and it was a nice stop on my long drive. I got a Chai tea and peanut butter cookie. The chai was very good. It wasn’t too foamy and it had a nice kick to it. The peanut butter cookie eas delicious and crunchy! The staff was very friendly. I was able to look out onto the river from the patio and it was a beautiful view. I would definitely stop by everytime I drove on 299.

This place is THEBEST. Has the best breakfast seeded bagel. It is expensive but worth every penny.

I have eaten here 4 times over the past 2 years and stayed here once with the wife. The addition of the pizza solidifies what I would call a weak /static salad lunch-dinner menu. The breakfast items, although also static, are fine for what they are: breakfast. The coffee is good. Our experience with the cabins was fine. We felt like they were so ‘perfect’ we could not touch anything or really ‘use’ the cabin the way we would normally do when we felt comfortable. We took a deep breath when we left. The weird issue about this place is dogs. There are ‘no dogs’ signs all around the cabins yet when we last ate on the deck two dogs off leash were rubbing under our group table(party of 9). None of us got up to wash our hands but this scenario seemed so out of place given the cleanliness of the place. I walked to the river and was asked by an employee to go back to the deck as only cabin rental guests are allowed to go down to the grass(event guests also). Heck, I wasn’t going to picnic down there but I guess they are afraid someone might drown? I think it’s just a management decision to keep the grass green. Overall the owner(Don) is nice but I get this weird vibe everything HAS to be perfect for him. This vibe was picked up by our group and we started to feel a little uneasy. Like we were being watched. After 4 visits I am not so hot on this place any more. Might be my personality but I just feel like the walls get closer together every time and the rules get more enforced — yet there were 2 dogs on the deck off leash so I don’t really get it. It’s organic so the pizza is really good. It’s not cheap.

This is a great place in the middle of nowhere. They roast their coffee on premises. Baked goods are great and they make a killerQuinoa salad and Tri Tip sandwich. They were also king enough to let us fill our campers water tank from their garden hose. The Garden by the way is beautiful and the patio overlooks the Trinity river. Fire baked pizzas on friday. Great place.

A hidden gem of sorts, Strawhouse Coffee Shop is tucked away on HWY299 between Weaverville and Willow Creek. They roast their own beans and feature a variety of single origins. I had a soy macchiato. The espresso was a little bright for my palate, but good nonetheless. I chatted with the barista, and he seemed very well educated on coffee, discussing how he had toured a number of artisan coffee shops across CA(Blue Bottle, Ritual, Verve, Intelligentsia, etc.). They also have a great variety of organic gourmet food options. Even if their coffee was terrible, I would consider visiting just for the ambiance. Strawhouse is situated right on the Trinity River with a beautiful outdoor seating area and gorgeous redwood burl tables. If you’re traveling on HWY299, I highly recommending stopping by.

Fantastic coffee shop and café along the trinity river. They roast their own coffee, they’ve got brick oven pizza on friday night’s. Even if it weren’t the only viable place to eat between Willowcreek and Weaverville, i’d stop here. The strawhouse is a major community hub for the trinity river. Everybody comes through. From the hippy rafters to the local bible group. If you’re driving along the trinity river i strongly recommend you check out the strawhouse.

Whether you stop for excellent coffee or you spend a week, the Strawhouse should be on your list. Don and Julia are very friendly, the staff is too. Being right on the Trinity river, the view and location are killer. Be sure to get a cabin right on the river. Food is excellent, make a dinner reservation. If you are following Hwy 299 along the Trinity River canyon, stop at the Strawhouse.

I rated this place based on a few things: value– 2, the location is nice on the river but totally in the boondocks… the cabins are small and pretty cheap feeling. The upstairs loft is a joke, only an 8 year old could stand up in it. I felt like this was wayyy overpriced for the location. food-4, the pizzas were pretty dang good. accomodations– 2, as mentioned above, small and cheap feeling, but the window does look right out on the trinity river and there is a deck that is really nice in the mornings. location-3, trinity river is pretty and fun(we went rafting) but it’s way out in the boondocks not near much else. friendlyness– 3, there were some issues with the cabins and check in. All in all, they were friendly enough, but you didn’t get the warmth you normally feel at a small place like this.

Must stop, and maybe stay the night. I would have but already had a reservation elsewhere. The café is incredible, excellent espresso. The gardens are immaculate, and the view from the large patio is very pleasant to the eye and mind, and there is a messeuse there on Saturdays too(loosen up from the drive). You wont regret stopping. If you are planning to take the 299 route between eureka and redding, you wood be a fool not to stop. the menu and food looked delicious, unfortunately we had a big breakfast. Very easy to miss, I did and my wife caught it.

About 10 miles toward the coast from Junction City, or 20 miles west of Weaverville, almost to Big Bar, in a place called«Big Flat». The landscaping is to die for, but it’s often too hot in the middle of the day to really enjoy the outside areas there. Sigh… Mediterranean climate… but at least it ain’t humid. Anyhow, if I’m on the way to the coast and don’t get coffee in Weaverville, this is a great place to get leaded up. Wide turnout, easy to spot(it’s sort of pink and looks like a big adobe two story building squatting by the road with a big parking area). Lots of places to turn around and double back, done easily in that stretch of the road. That’s an important issue on 299… The adobe/straw walls keep the place fairly cool, even if it’s baking outside. These people have done a nice job of this business. They also own property surrounding this coffee place, and sell shares in their resort, put on wedding affairs, etc. They’ve obviously made a good go of it in an area that barely survives on tourism. They have their own roasts and coffee blends, and I like them. The folks working there are always friendly. The bathrooms are clean. They’ve got pastries and sandwiches, too, although I’m usually through there at a pastry time of day so that’s the extent of my knowledge on the food — a cookie or cake bar usually gets bought and shared with the other guy in the car. I haven’t yet found anything particularly attractive that does coffee in Willow Creek, so this place is your best bet after leaving WVille.

We almost always stop at the Strawhouse, to or from Weaverville. I recommend it. Good coffee, specialty drinks, breakfast/lunch options, and the people who work there are unfailingly friendly and attentive. Beautiful grounds/garden/location right on the Trinity River make it popular for weddings, reunions, etc. In spite of the occasional order goof up, I like this place. It’s worth stopping for.

Very, very clean setting shows pride of ownership. The coffee was excellent & the building(built with straw mud /straw adobe) sits right on the river. I will come back to check it out next time I drive by. I did not try any of the food, but the young barista was attentive to her job & the place was very well kept.
