The music was awesome I loved the band playing. Service and food was terrible! Took over an hour to get a salad and a chicken bowl. The rice was cold, the chicken was fatty. The waitress made no effort to provide good service. Would not go back even for a concert. Not worth my money.

Went in at 815pm for some food. Waited an hour and only received half of our meal. After and hour and a half still hadn’t received the rest of it. We were told the kitchen was«backed up» but we literally didn’t see one other table eating food. Our server was nice and we got our meal comped after saying something to the manager. Bowls were just ok. This is all coming from someone who is really easy to please at restaurants.

I’m giving 4 stars solely based on the delicious mixed drinks, set up of the place, the live set we seen last night featuring Mike Love & the bomb lighting for the stage! The service was shoddy, she didn’t check on us as often as she should have & drinks were slow to come. But she did have bursts of really good service over the 2.5 hours we were there & that’s why I say shoddy. The $ 18 bowls they have on the late night menu are total tourist traps, the poke bowl had a smoked flavor and the fish didn’t taste fresh at all. I had the shrimp one and there were 6 shrimps(not jumbo) with small amount of vegetables. The rice to entrée ratio was totally off, I was left with a whole lot of rice & still feeling hungry :( I understand the high food prices because it is a resort, but it would’ve been nice if the presentation & quality at least matched. Their mixologists are on point though! I tried the Waimea, Stone Zone Margarita, and Sunset. The Waimea was my fave, I had two! It was like a refreshing piña colada flavor but without the sore stomach and slush! The margarita was light and delicious & didn’t have that bite margaritas over ice usually do. The Sunset was so pretty to look at(the drink, haha) and tasted like the perfect juice at a Sunday brunch on a balcony looking over the ocean. I’m glad my boyfriend and I went on a day there was live music, I would come back again but only if there’s a band. The crowd is really mixed with tourist & local and I wouldn’t want to be there on the wrong day!!!

Karaōke Sunday’s is definitely fun for the whole family! Singing on the stage was a great new experience and the kids loved it! Food was good and the beer was cold. It was a perfect part of our family’s weekend staycation.

Food was bland’ calamari was over fried more batter than squid, and we were there for taco Tuesday, the chicken was ok, but the beef tasted like old El Paso taco kit. Margaritas were good, the mango slush was tasty. The entertainment was excellent, made up for the poor food.

Popped in for lunch, during drive to north shore to watch big waves. Chicken fingers, bland, marlin sandwich, also bland. Both dry. The fries that came with were ok, nice and greasy, flavorful actually, and to their credit, there was plenty of catsup, mustard, salt and pepper. The view is nice. Most memorable takeaway, the way-out-of-proportion-to-the meal, pricey price-tag. If you’re stuck here with no transport and love drinking expensive frothy drinks in the sun while looking at waves, and have no other options, this might just be the place for you. Otherwise keep driving. The food is forgettable, even as you eat it, basic sustenance, fairly dry, so don’t neglect to order something wet.

What a neat bar. Big screen TV showing surf competitions. We are here for Taco Tuesday and the live entertainment. We have not been disappointed. GREAT beef and chicken tacos for $ 4 each with choices of lettuce, cheese, olives, onions, and salsa. Super delicious! Totally recommend! Friendly service. Really enjoyed our entertainment as well!

ALMOST gave Surfer Bar three stars… but overall its a four. Why 4? The Sushi nights(excluding Sunday sushi buffet night) are awesome. The sushi is fantastic and the regular menu, while not extensive, has great bar food and good drinks. Unfortunately, the Sunday night $ 24 All You Can Eat Sushi Buffet is certainly NOT worth it. The sushi every other night is fantastic… the perfect combination of fish, rice and sauces. Sunday night, however, is a mass produced, 10x worse than grocery store brand of sushi. Picture a sliver of fish wrapped in 10 inches of white rice. Good for carb loading… not good for sushi fans. Moral of the story is skip this place on Sunday, but any other night is A OK!

Came here for Through the Roots but dined and drank before the show started. If it wasn’t for the nice server n da sushi cart dude, this place would get uno star. The security needs a head check cuz they totally power tripped and literally took a mellow iRie dude that was relaxing n jammin down to the floor, after thEy were the ones who got handsy n started harassing. Some tourist couple spilt their drink and instead of watching out for actual ppl who couldn’t handle it, they took it out on someone who caused no harm and wasn’t even drunk. Bad vibes for reggae… Aside from the rudeboys, calamari was on point, poke from da cart was bOmb, but drink list was weAk. This bar needs a balcony cuz its tiny and so dark. Can’t see the view at night cuz its just a huge glass window that reflects the inside. Weird ambiance cuz ppl were loud and loving the attention since its sucha small venue. Definitely not worth it if it wasn’t for a band since there are better places to chill n grub on North Shore. Kinda sad its a sellout place ripping the Surfer name. It doesn’t deserve that kind of recognition. Playing old surfing vids shouldn’t entail rights to claim this place as a surfer’s spot. Should be called Tourist Trap, the WannabeBar. =\

I went to the Kimie show last night at Surfer. This review is not about her, but about the venue. We arrived around 7:30 and the bar was nicely filled with people eating burgers and cocktailing. One of the servers graciously stopped to explain to us how the seating worked. The round lower tables were going to be moved later for dancing so if we wanted to keep our seating for the show, she recommended the high tops. Thank you for the great info! I asked if I could order a «skinny chi chi» which is on the lobby bar menu but not on the Surfer menu. The waitress said of course! Here’s the skinny: Ciroc coconut vodka, soda water and a splash of pineapple juice. It’s cocktail perfection. There were 6 of us and we had a round of skinny chi chi’s and regular chi chi’s(blended) think piña colada but the chi chi is made with vodka. The drink wasn’t as good as I remember it, not sure why. We ordered chicken wings, calamari, mushroom flatbread, onion rings, and poke to share. The onion rings were so sad, not crispy. Actually inedible. Chicken wings were a highlight. Mushroom flatbread was small, only four pieces. Calamari, forgettable. Poke, had a tasty thick sauce. It was time to take a trip to the restroom and we were told that if we left, we’d have to pay $ 15 each to get back in… Uh what?! If there’s a cover, you should’ve charged us at 7:30 when we came in. I flagged down our waitress and she told us to just lie and say we’re hotel guests. She also said that soon Surfer staff was going to be walking around and collecting cover charge money from everybody. I told her that I doubted that was going to happen, ANDSUREENOUGHITDIDN’T! It was so weird and awkward, anyone who had to pee had to pay $ 15 to get back in. And those who just stayed in, did not have to pay. Our bill came out to $ 240ish dollars not including the cover price. This place is really lucky that there’s no equivalent competition(venue) on the North Shore because the food is not on par with comparable hotels, they have shady management practices, and it’s way overpriced. I guess that’s the price we pay for paradise!(Or maybe we’re just paying the salaries of the eight bodyguards they have staffed for this event). If I ever go back, I’m going to eat first. Pre game in my car. And hold my pee.

I was out at Surfer the Bar on Friday 11⁄13 for the Surfrider Foundation Oahu Chapter’s fundraiser. We had a great time, atmosphere was nice and the service was great. However, I also had what was seriously the worst $ 11 margarita of my life… and I will pretty much drink any margarita. It was the one on their drink list, so just avoid that and save yourself the gagging. The bartender fixed it for me when I told him it was bad, and I appreciated him telling me there was no sweet n sour in their recipe. Weird choice… but good to know ;) The food we got was awesome. Sushi roll and calamari. We liked the sauce that came with the calamari. The bouncers were doing an excellent job supporting us as well. The reason for 3 rather than 4 stars though is because the WiFi situation was so bad. We were told by the staff not to worry about it, it would work well etc. but the movie we were showing kept skipping, and our card reader wasn’t working to process credit cards for merchandise sales. In the end it worked out, but it would have been nice to not have that stress. Mahalo for a great evening!

Stayed at Turtle Bay on our honeymoon and thought we’d give taco tuesday a try. While the atmosphere is awesome and the live music was a solid A+, the food was not great. The taco meat itself was bland, the salsa was also bland and the topping selection was very basic… some guacamole would have been nice. Maybe I am just spoiled with good authentic tacos being close to the border here in southern CA… hmmm… Would we come back here? Maybe… If so, it would be for the live music and we’d order off the menu next time.

This place is awesome! We had so much fun at Surfer’s! Firstly, it’s located at Turtle Bay Resort, so it was very convenient for us as we stayed at Turtle Bay Resort for a part of our trip. It’s also nice that they are open later than pretty much anywhere else in the North Shore. So for those of us that were staying at the resort, we had fun partying. The food was delish — they have a ton of options for appetizers, drinks and entrees. We grubbed! And we listened to live music. It was a lot of fun! Definitely will come back to TBR and Surfer’s! :)

If you are on the North Shore on a Sunday you MUST come to karaōke! Best time ever! Lots of great locals performing plus liquored up tourists. You can’t make this shit up! I always leave here feeling good. If you are in town check out what’s going there. Lots of great local artists & bands. Personal favorites performing or on open mic night: Yoza & Thunder Storm Artis. The drinks & service are great too! Look for sushi specials.

Great atmosphere and views. Live music, so can’t complain right?! Wrong! It isn’t that busy so it takes a while for the food to come. We figured we should order just one dish first to scope it out and we were right. Place is just too expensive for the horrible for and choices of drinks. I guess this place is ok if you got a money tree in your back yard and feel like eating dry food then by all means. Disappointed. Period.

I’ve been to Surfer The Bar a few times. This is one of my favorite bars on the island! It’s a little pricy, but what do expect its Turtle Bay. They have live music and I always enjoy myself when I visit this bar. I tried the ribeye steak burger and fries. My burger was overcooked, but still delicious. The service was great too. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. I will defiantly be back.

In The Turtle Bay Resort, we were here on Taco Tuesday and took advantage of the margarita specials because we were walking. The bartender was friendly and someone gave me a free t-shrt!!! i still am not sure why but it doesn’t get any better than that. The bar is themed around the magazine, which we love.

Josh Sharp and his band were the live band playing tonight and I enjoyed their set, so they get 5 stars This rating is for the bar itself. At first the servers checked on us often, but as the night when on they became more inaccessible and were nowhere to be seen. We wanted to leave already, but it took almost half an hour just to flag the waitress down for the check. Another 10 minutes to get the check. Another 5 for her to pick it back up from the table. I’m not the most patient person, so I wasn’t too pleased by the time we finally left. The hurricane fries were really good; however, I’m unsure how the rest of the menu is. I like how the place and stage is set up. The $ 10 cover charge and overpriced food and drinks make me think I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here.

I heard all kinds of hype about the Surfer bar from some people, but then I read all the Unilocal reviews and got really, really skeptical about it. I ended up going to visit the place with my bf(who is a surfer and really wanted to go there to check it out too) and I was SORELY disappointed with my experience. 1) It’s called Surfer The Bar… you’d expect that there’s a lot of surf stuff involved. They have one or two display cases with surf memorabilia, a couple surf boards on display, and merchandise near the entrance, but that’s about where it ends. The weekend that we went up there to check it out, the Vans Triple Crown competitions were going on, but not ONE tv out of the 4 – 5 tvs and HUGE projector screen was showing anything about surf. Every single tv was tuned into a football game… what? Tell me how that makes sense, please, someone. 2) EXPENSIVEASALLHELL. I split a burger and chips with my bf, and it was something like $ 15 for a lame average burger and a small bag of chips… You’d think they’d at least empty the chips onto the plate, but no, you have to do that one yourself. If that’s any indication, the rest of their menu is just as ridiculously priced for really unamazing and average/below-average food. Even the drinks are ridiculous. We ended up just asking for water. 3) Waitress was kind of unattentive. I don’t know what it’s like when there are lots of people because there were only two other parties there when we were(a family of 5 who’d already eaten and was chilling watching football, and a pair of guys at the bar counter). There was only one waitress on duty, and you’d think she’d be able to handle the small amount of people in there, but we had to wait a LONG time to get her attention for stupid things like ordering food or getting more water or getting the check(we seriously couldn’t get the check fast enough…). So especially if you’re a local, if there isn’t some amazing band or famous surfer you’re going there to see/meet, then don’t bother wasting your time or money there.
