A company owned by DFS, Kahului Trading Company is located at the Kahului airport. If you’re familiar with the airport, you know where the large circular area is in the middle just after entering and being screened by TSA. Kahului Trading Company is on both sides of the circular area; the store is actually split into two. One side of the store consists of mostly clothing and the other consists of trinkets and such. This is pretty much your typical overpriced souvenir shop at the airport but of course, they sell things specific to Maui and Hawaii in general. They have magnets, stuffed animals, bottled sand, shells and a bunch of other things for sale like local snacks. The local snacks include dried fruit, Maui tea, Maui cookies and best of all: fresh Maui Gold pineapples! The pineapples come in their own cardboard case so that you can easily carry them onto the plane. What they didn’t have were postcards. Postcards! ‘Aint that something… a souvenir shop with no postcards. It’s easy to miss their cashier stand because it’s a small stand in the middle of the store; barely a counter. The customer service could have been better. I wasn’t greeted or even approached to see if I had questions or needed help. Overall, Kahului Trading Company is a good place to get your last-minute Maui goods. Naturally, with their location being at the airport, their items come with a hefty price tag.
