Wow-Wee Maui’s Kava Bar & Grill

Stopped in on a Monday night after getting back from Hana. Small joint that looked interesting. One person was busily working the front of the house so the service was slow. When she finally asked for our order, she was more than friendly and helped answer all questions.
I had the Kalbi ribs. They were meaty and tasty, if not a bit chewy. My wife had a grilled mahimahi that was delicious. We also started with a California roll from the sushi station. That was great too. A generous portion of food all around.
Was pleasantly happy to find Kona Brewing being served as well.
For a low cost alternative, Wow Wee is a great place to eat.

Quick and efficient service right near the airport if you’re coming off the plane hungry this is a good place to stop

not good at all. we had the burger. it was really mediocre and fries were ok. the restaurant was dirty. nobody was there for obvious reasons.

Excellent! Had the best mahi salad I’ve ever had. This is Maui’s best kept secret and I highly recommend it especially if you just arrive and have time before your check-​in at your hotel. Also excellent fries!

First time coming here the server is friendly the cook made my food awesome. I would like to come back here again.

I have always wanted to check this place out due to craving for some cheeseburger (i know mickey d is like right across the street from this place but need to try diff kine).
Its right across the street from mickey d & next to the ululani shave ice stand. Parking is not a problem, there is many.
It’s not a big place but they do have a bar & sushi bar.
Their prices are pretty decent for the burgers & it does come with fries. I had to try the Bacon Cheeseburger & I have to say… I loved it. The portion of the burger was perfect for me (i had to cut it in 4 pieces)
I forgot to ask the waitress & the cooks names but they were super chill. They made you feel like you were eating at home & not eating out. I would def. would love to hit that place up again, not just for the food but for the service as well.

The service was fantastic! We stopped here for a late lunch before our flight and were pleasantly surprised. Now, this definitely has a dive bar feel, but the waitress was awesome! She was attentive and really went out of her way to treat us with a free candy bar for everyone at the table. She (never did say her name and we never asked) was a really sweet woman!
Food was great! Good variety, but we all had burgers and cleared our plates with no issues.

Excellent food and service. We will be back. The salmon salad was amazing. And there were so many other delicious looking selections on the menu.

We were so hungry after Ziplining at Northshore Maui so we decided to get burgers. There was absolutely NO SERVICE offered here at all. We sat ourselves at the table and no one came to see us at as we waited for at least 20 minutes with our menus.
Then, someone spotted us and said «no one has helped you yet???» Then he walked away and never came back.
Damn! He even acknowledged us and still did nothing!
We left… and ended up at FATT CHICKS BURGERS… yum yum yum

Amazing mahi wrap and garlic fries ! She even squeezed the lime juice into my Gin and tonic for me. Great service !

We ate here killing time before our flight. We got a quesadilla, fries and the mahi wrap. When we ordered, the lady tried to add a chicken and wings plate for $ 55– what? The food was average and the mahi sub par. Would not recommend.

Sit at Melvin’s sushi bar. Ask him to do his thing. Let him take his time. You won’t be disappointed.

Great place near the airport. The food was fresh and delicious. Fish Tacos were divine as well as the California Roll with Spicy Tuna on top! We will return…

I ordered myself a lava flow, a Kula roll, Steak Pupu & an oyster shooter. It’s all yummy! The waitress Aunty Naomi was super nice and made us feel like home. Yup great decision coming here!

Found this place using the Unilocal ap. There were several condensed places to eat lunch so we took the best rating and went for it
Well, the ratings did not let us down.
We had grilled salmon (fresh) and a hamburger. Amazing meals!
Anyway, as much as I hate to admit this since Unilocal discriminates against my business putting over 100 positive reviews in their «filtered» area and 5 (of course one is a bad review) in the «non-​filtered» area since I won’t advertise with them, I am thankful for the restaurant we found using this ap.

I have to be blunt. This last visit was the last straw.
I’m sorry to report this place has really turned into a dump. It was always divey but it’s now crossed over to the «dump» category.
There is grime all over everything from the tables to the floors to their appliances. Even some of the staff’s clothes looks filthy. You can’t tell who’s staff and who’s a beach bum walking in from the street.
As soon as we walked in, I knew we should’ve left. First they told us we’d have to pay cash because their credit card machine was broken. Then the guy taking the orders was also making sushi and he looked flustered. The other staff looked like they’d rather not be there.
Service was painfully slow. The rolls weren’t as good as they used to be. So while we waited, I took some pics.
Also the staff doesn’t use soap when washing their hands. They simply rub their hands under water and that’s it. So our server took our order, then cut a jalapeño and then lifted trays and delivered DIRTY dishes to table, then rinsed hands and made sushi. Ugh.
We’re never going back. I doubt they’d pass a health inspection.

Don’t be fooled by the name. This isn’t some hippy bar where smelly patrons are dancing half naked around a fire pit and worshipping the moon while drinking kava. That’s at Little Beach lol! All kidding aside, they have a good food menu here, as well as kava.
ATMOSPHERE:
They’re located in the Akaku Center on the ground floor. It’s a small, simple restaurant with indoor only seating. There’s a small sushi bar and traditional bar, a few hightops, regular tables, and a separate room that can be had for a large group. We had a very good entertainer on this particular Friday night who sang all genres.
MENU:
Bar style apps, salads, burgers, and a mix of local & American entrees, and desserts.
FOOD:
Swiss Mushroom Burger — This was really good. It’s a ¼ pound patty that was cooked perfect, juicy, with just the right amount of tenderness while still having great texture. I’ve never had a burger with butter lettuce which was a very nice choice. Other toppings were white onions, tomato slices, and two gherkin pickles. The fries were thick cut and had that delicious homemade taste. Highly recommended for the burger aficionado!
SERVICE:
Everyone we came into contact with was very friendly, professional, and checked on us frequently.
TIP:
The hours differ from what’s posted on Unilocal.They stayed open past 10pm on Friday night, though I’m not sure exactly what time they close. It’s probably a slow/​busy policy.
OVERALL:
Nice little place to hangout, have a few drinks, and eat really good food at great prices.

This is a service review.
We showed up at 8:17pm to grab a quick bite. Unfortunately when we walked in they said «We are closed!» I replied «I thought you closed at 9?» The lady looked at me and said «Yeah well, we are closed.»
The lights were on, even the neon open sign. I felt the rudeness was uncalled for unprofessional. If you are going to close almost an hour early turn off the lights.

our experience here was awesome! The service was excellent and the food was great! I had sushi and i feel that the price was a little high. We tried the kava and thought it was awesome.
we purchased some kava to bring home with us as well and the waitress shared her tips on how to make it. i would suggest you check this place out. especially if you are interested in trying kava.

Stumbled upon this place after realizing Da Kitchen was closed and was left with a serious craving for some local food near the airport.
Wow-​wee Maui’s Kava Bar and Grill serves up some local entrees like loco moco and miso butterfish, your typical sandwiches and burgers, a wide range of sushi, and a full bar.
Both the food and service were a bit underwhelming. The Maui Cattle Co. burger contained quality meat, but only came well done (they actually didn’t ask me the doneness I desired when I ordered) and lacked the flavor and spices of a great burger. The fries on the other hand were very well seasoned, but were quite soggy.
Others in my party noted that the rice in the loco moco was not cooked enough (yielding hard rice). The waitress also forgot the nachos we ordered and didn’t apologize at the end of the meal when we cancelled it.
Nevertheless, conveniently located by the airport and a gas station, it’s a good pit stop for some comfort local food and a drink or two before heading to catch a flight!
