I’m giving it two stars just because our server was very friendly and the view from the terrace was great. The food was a big disappointment. Four people in my party were in total agreement that the food was bland and tasteless. I have paid much less for much better. The beer selection was not great either. Generally speaking, the place was all show and no go.

My wife and I have been coming to this place for the last ten years, whenever we visit Kona. Basically, the Dixie fishwich is delicious and at a decent price, but we haven’t been terribly happy with much else. The servers are generally very friendly though, and they work hard if anything is truly not what you wanted. I’ll be back again for another fishwich in a few years!

My wife and I decided to get our shrimp on last night and go to Bubba Gumps during our stay in Kona. We had ate at the Bubba Gump’s in San Francisco and had a good experience, this was the opposite. After ordering our drinks our waiter dissappeared for a half hour while my wife and I watched other customers who arrived 10 + minutes after us get there dinner served before us… We finally flagged down our waiter who rushed our food to us, then ran away as soon as he dropped the plates off on the table and didn’t even ask us if we needed anything. My wife’s poor boy sandwich in my New Orleans shrimp was room temperature cold and disgusting. We told the manager and then walked out without eating our disgusting soggy meals. Our dinners must have been sitting out for 20 minutes plus before they were delivered to us. One of the most unprofessional and time-wasting experiences of my life. Do not waist your time at this place.

Great experience, our server Makai was the man. Very attentive and cracked some pretty hilarious jokes. will be returning very soon hungry for more. He executed one of the most flawless shakas when we put up the stop forest stop sign and asked for some more water and proceeded to sprint to the water station. He had water back to us at lightning speed, amazing service.

Food was so delicious!!! All the staff was amazing, I didn’t care too much for the drink I ordered and they replaced it for free for me and gave us some extra free cups! Staff was great and food was great we will be back!

First, the positive. We were seated right away outside with an ocean view. Now, for the negative. For a place specializing in shrimp, the Shrimp Cocktail was like eating rubber shrimp and they were not fully de-veined. When we were seated, the table next to us was just leaving. For the entire time we were at Bubba Gumps, no one cleared the adjacent table of the dirty dishes. At least six birds flew onto the table and feasted on leftovers during our entire meal. Disgusting. There were several other tables that needed to be cleaned in the outdoor area.

It just seems like everywhere you go on a Holiday, you will find a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. They must be doing something right, because that movie has to be almost 25 years old. People still find it funny, and the sayings are all still used to this day. The food here is just what you would expect. The staff is great and nice. The view is amazing,(right on the Ocean). They still have a groovy little gift shop. People know what to expect here. The Kids will be happy with what they order. tHe old people will be happy with what they order. When everyone is happy, life is good. I always find it a fun place to visit. Bathrooms are clean as well.

5 stars for friendlyness, Service and taste was delicious. Unfortunately, that’s it on this visit. Food was served cold. both of our plates Sat under the heat lamp way too long as my sauce had skin on top and no steam came from either entrée. Steak ordered med rare came well done and wasn’t replaced until we were walking away to find the cashier to pay our tab over 15 –20 minutes later, so we could leave. The bar manager was pleasant came over and comped the steak we never ate(woohoo) but charged us full price for everything else. As we left I saw a Managers meeting in front of the exit so i politely introduced myself and told them what happened but to my disappointment none stood up to shake my extended hand and only one seemed to care a little and kinda stood up. I often sympathize since I am and have been in the food industry all my professional life so I rarely vent on Unilocal but you shouldn’t charge people full price for half the quality and if a person who makes your home payments approaches professionally it shouldn’t kill you to stand, it’s just courtesy

Fun reflecting on the movie. The food is not so much fun. Typical Landry’s frozen seafood. I am from Houston and I am familiar with the Landry’s chain. Tilman needs to source local and fresh seafood and prepare it in house. Come on this Hawaii and there are fresh seafood sources less than 1 mile down the road.

Service was outstanding. Our water was I believe native Hawaiian guy. The food — not so good. I got salmon and my two friends got different type of fish with shrimp. My friend was excited about shrimp. But shrimp was very disappointing. In a grocery store you may purchase way better shrimp. We were told that the shrimp was from farm. Salmon was not good either. Waiting for food is 1 out of 5, service 5 out of 5. Even though service was perfect, we went to the restaurant to have dinner and we were pretty disappointed. Quality of food was very low.

Went in, ordered a shrimp boil then had to get the order to go. None of the shrimp were devained & the potatoes were sprouting & under cooked. For what we paid I would have expected a little better quality. If I was in the restaurant and this came, I would have returned it.

We had a good experience and would go again. Visiting here for vacation and we had reservations for 6pm but arrived at 5:40 and they seated us right away. It was a Saturday night and every one was seated outside over looking the ocean. They weren’t that crowded so no one was seated inside. Drinks I ordered a beer, but can’t remember what it was… Something local. My girlfriend ordered a top shelf margarita. They served it in a plastic shaker with ice. It was worth it and she had 3 drinks from it. Will update with photos of food and further review shortly.

I really enjoyed my first visit here on the Big Island. I was a little hesitant since it is a big chain restaurant and I usually prefer smaller, mom n pop type places. However, I decided to give it a shot and I’m glad I did We started with their mac n cheese and it was awesome! Super cheesey! It was also a good sized portion for 2 people. I also tried their lobster louie salad. It’s on their new specials menu and I think it will only be around for a short time. I hope that they eventually do make it a part of their permanent menu because it was very good! They didn’t skimp on the lobster. There were plenty of big chunks in the salad. Definitely more than I expected to see. The salad is big and it also has lots of avocado, egg, and veggies. The dressing that is served with it was also very good. I really wanted to be able to try their dessert but I was way too full by the end of the meal. Maybe next time :) Highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for a big filling and fully satisfying meal in town!

‘s allright, I guess. Not a ringing endorsement? No, it isn’t. Almost $ 90 for 3 @ lunch, mostly basic burger/shrimp stuff and 2 kids smoothies is a wee bit steep. It’s not bad, and the location is great, but, yeah, not really worth it for mainland chain food. What I certainly did dislike was my glass of water tasting mightily like chlorine. That’s a Kailua-Kona thing rather than a Bubba Gump thing, but couldn’t they invest in a filter? I get it from a hole in the wall joint, but this is a big chain. Step up, guys!

Run Forrest, RUN! Run far, far away from this horrible excuse for a restaurant. Let’s see… the hostess at the front of the restaurant was apparently getting off of her shift as we came in, so she waited out the last three minutes of her shift without seating us. The next hostess took us to our table right away, and I must admit that the view was great. It was probably the best part of the meal, actually. Our server was clearly stoned out of his mind. Sent most of our food and drinks to the wrong table, didn’t know what the«daily catch» was, almost fell flat on his face running around our table, and later walked straight into a different table. I don’t mean that he bumped into it as he was walking by — he literally turned around and walked right into the middle of a table. Brought out four waters for a table of five and didn’t know what a Roy Rogers was. He was very nice, but clearly not on top of things. The other waitstaff were… concerning. One waitress looked like she had just shot up: glassy eyes, nodding off, wandering aimlessly, picking at herself, confused, the whole shebang. It wasn’t pretty. The food was mediocre at best. Nuclear-temperature chicken, butter-soaked garlic bread, barely acceptable burger, and rubbery pasta. Edible but not at all impressive or satisfying. The drinks had zero alcohol in them, and I really do mean zero alcohol. I downed a margarita and my father a Mai Tai(both about 16oz) with absolutely zero effect. Lo and behold, when we left I spotted the bartender mixing drinks that did not appear to have any alcohol added to them. To add insult to injury, my brother was shit on by a bird not once but TWICE over the course of the meal. I will not in a thousand years return to this restaurant or suggest that anyone else visit. There are plenty of other establishments in the area that are worth visiting, and won’t leave you with explosive diarrhea two hours after your meal.

I typically stay away from corporate restaurants while on vacation but my partner and I wanted a quick bite to eat and shrimp sounded good so we wondered in to Bubba Gump. First — the view is amazing. Right on the ocean. The breeze drifts through, cooling you as you sip on a tasty drink and munch on shrimp. The food is not amazing but is good standard food. The service was prompt and friendly. I would go back to this place solely because of the view.

Wow! Such a nice waiter we had and the food was great. Sat outside and we all watched the waves of the ocean. The hamburger I got was perfect and my kids loved their food too. The appetizers were all delicious especially the popcorn shrimp, hush puppies etc. We had a very large group seated there and the food came out in a timely manner and they even served my 10 month old baby first since she was hungry and getting fussy. I would definitely come back for the food, the ambience and the great wait service

Coconut Shrimp=pretty good Signature Blue Hawaiian drink= tastes like vodka and blue koolaid. This place is just«aight». There are so many other beautiful places on the water with better drinks and food. Head to one of the other joints along Ali’i.
