The staff contacts me about new game and system release. My son is a gamer. Lol. The greet us by name as we enter the store, give good advise on playing.

Went to buy the kiddos a game. There was one person behind the counter(Makena?) helping a lady and a child who had lost their card.(The lady wanted to cancel the card, but of course, he could not do that locally, so told them to call some Mainland number. LAdy wanted to use up the money on the card, but without swiping the card, he could not do that either.) Waited a long time(20 minutes) while they were being helped — that’s cool, no problem. The person behind the counter knew I was waiting to be helped. I stepped to the side for one second to say something to my child and a teen walks in the store and goes up to the counter and the guy starts to serve him. I walk up and explain that I was waiting 20 minutes. The guy behind the counter apologizes to the kid(clearly, he knew the teen)! Apology to the kid is OK, but an apology to me would have also been the right thing to do. Sorry — but I can’t stand bad customer service.

If you live on the Windward side, and are used to going to the GameStop in Windward Mall, I suggest you take a few extra minutes and drive out to this location in neighboring Kailua, instead. Less chaotic and crowded, much cleaner, less cluttered, well organized, and a much more pleasant shopping experience overall. The customer service at all GameStops is consistently friendly and helpful, in my experiences, but here I actually felt like I was having a conversation instead of being given a sales pitch for something or other. A refreshing plus. The woman who helped me, Meta, was awesome. She helped me with several trade-ins and a number of purchases, as well as helping me upgrade my PowerUp membership at a discounted rate. She helped us once before a few months back and was super helpful and friendly then, too. Only complaint, and it’s out of the control of this store, is the parking. Frankly, it’s a crowded, poorly designed lot with narrow aisles where you’re forced to dodge oblivious drivers, pedestrians and their little dogs, too. Be prepared to do a lap or two before you find an open stall, and keep your eyes peeled to avoid an accident. Whatever your feelings are about Kailua and/or its residents, this GameStop location is worth the extra drive time. Don’t think I’ll go back to the Windward Mall site if I can help it. –r–
