I bid out an attic insulation job with 3 contractors in the Kalamazoo area. Lyster won the bid with a detailed proposal, clearly outlining the scope of work. Cody and Jimmy arrived on time in the morning with the material for the job. They were friendly and careful about dragging dirt into the house. They were also gracious enough to wait for me to inspect their progress at the major milestones in the job, baffle installation at the soffits, chimney dam and scuttle hole box. When they were finished, I looked at the job and asked them to add more insulation near the soffits. They did as I asked without any complaining. Great work by the guys. I would recommend them to my family.

DON’T WORKWITHTHESEHACKS! Absolutely horrible experience that, after many months of arguing, was resolved. Due to their resolution skills, I called for additional work and was told that«the owner no longer wanted to work with me». Yet, the owner didn’t have the gumption to call me himself. In total, six major issues and callbacks including: A family heirloom dog statue is broken by falling wood; my bathroom fan is knocked loose as they attempt to vent it to the roof; excessive amounts of wood chippings and sawdust falls into both my shed and garage(which I had to clean); nail holes through my flashing; a gutter piece cut too short. If you’re someone who knows nothing about home construction, exteriors, or roofing, I’m sure they’ll be nice and responsive and happily slip a ton of bad workmanship right past you. If you’re like me and you know when something’s not right and, God forbid, you demand you get what you paid for, don’t expect them to fulfill your needs. Apparently calling out their bad work(in a humane, civilized way directly to them to get it resolved) is frowned upon and will get you«banned». After a 6 month estimate process, they come out to install a new roof and gutters. When opening up the front valley of my house, they find a rotted frame and carpenter ants. Sy(my salesman) advises that there was someone there on-site who can frame this. I okay this, only to find this non-English speaker walking around, finding pieces of old, scrap wood from my house to piece together(jerry-rig) and frame it in. I advise that this is unacceptable. He advises that«his framer» could come out tomorrow. I ask who this first guy was if it wasn’t «his framer». Sy deflects the question. I then walk inside to discover the bathroom fan hanging half out of the ceiling with a broken bolt. Sy advises that«his electrician» will be in touch with me to replace it. A few weeks later, the electrician and his buddy show up. They finish the non-damaged bathroom fan(I bought, Lyster paid labor). He removes the damaged fan and starts cutting a larger hole in my ceiling for the new fan. It’s here that he realizes that the ceiling has moisture. Covering his own behind(as he had already replaced one), he tells me that«if the ceiling falls through it’s not his fault». I tell him that if the ceiling does indeed fall through, I will be going to Lyster to fix it as they started this whole thing. He starts arguing with me on how it’s not Lyster’s fault. I advise him to mind his own business. Thankfully, they are able to replace the fan without issue. They leave and I turn it on later that night. The fan runs fine, but isn’t sucking air. The next day, I walk behind my shed to discover nails popped through my flashing. Since it happened on no other area, I can assume that they know about it but were trying to hide it. I call Sy and he begins to argue with me that«his electrician told him the fan could’ve been repaired». I advised that he never said this to me and, since he removed the non-damaged fan first, they were welcome to reinstall the old repaired fans, but only if they replaced my celling(which now had larger holes cut). Long story short, they eventually get someone out to fix the fan issue and replace the flashing with the nail holes. Good resolution, right? Well, last month, I discover water coming through my soffit. I call it in(since I paid $ 250 for their warranty) and advise. Someone comes out. We find the soffit issue is a previous siding issue, but also that the gutter was cut too short in one area(tack it onto the list). They replace the gutter. I ask for a quote to fix the siding. After some running around, finally Mark Lyster calls me(after telling me someone would be calling me for a quote) and tells me that«the owner no longer wants to work with me». I can promise one thing: If I have any more future issues under my paid-for warranty, they better either honor the warranty or they will find themselves on the other side of a lawsuit.

These guys are top notch! They called back right away and came out and fixed our minor repair on time and communicated thoroughly during the process. I’ll definitely use them for future work!
