Nice lounge in the Fairmont Orchid in Maui. Happy hour drinks before dinner at their restaurant Norio’s, they had complimentary macadamia nuts(of course…) and nice appetizers. The fun part was watching the topless Hawaiian«hunk» running around lighting the tiki torches as sunset occurred. Totally kitsch from the hunk viewpoint, but totally fun, watching all the Hawaiian female tourists running up to him and getting selfies to show they’d been in Hawaii.

This is the main bar in the lobby of the Fairmont Orchid. Oddly, they only open up at 5pm. If you’re wanting a cocktail before that, you need to walk all the way down to the pool. ATMOSPHERE: The open air lounge includes a gorgeous outdoor lanai with big, cushioned lounge chairs that overlooks the pool and has good ocean views. The lounge continues into an indoor room that’s reminiscent of a library, with dark wood work everywhere, a nice size bar, TV’s, and still with similar views through small windows. They have entertainment on certain nights but I guess we missed them all, as were not hotel loungers. MENU: A mix of bar-style apps only. We stopped in for a night cap on a Sunday night. The place was dead. Pricing for beer is fair, about $ 6.50, but oddly enough, my night cap was a Coke. They have a daily happy hour from opening time(5pm) until 6pm. Great pricing on beer! SERVICE: The female server was friendly, nothing outstanding. OVERALL: Opening time is too late. They should open at maybe noon. Fair pricing, great ambiance & views.

******PLEASEREAD****** This place is incredible. However management sucks… Although this is a negative review on management, I cannot rob this spot of what it is and it is still worth 5 stars. Incredible view, laid back vibe, excellent(albeit slightly expensive) cocktails, and great food. We were on Maui for 5 nights staying at the Hyatt regency in Kaanapali. THAT place knows how to take care of you. I proposed to my now fiancé there only a week ago now(I know you don’t care) We are now spending 6 nights at the Fairmont Orchid. Pretty hungry on a Sunday night, my lady comes across a 50% off apps coupon right here on Unilocal.Let me preface with, I’m not a big coupon guy. Makes me feel weird to use, even at a grocery store. Well, I muster the guts tonight because 50% off $ 9 fries only seems fair. We sit down and as we are ordering drinks I show the coupon to the server like the coupon advises. She pauses, and let’s us know she’ll have to check with the manager. The manager comes over and let’s us know this is out of their hands and they can’t get Unilocal to remove the coupon. He smiles and walks away. Cool. Super cool. We sit and order a couple beers and listen to the excellent music while my lady and I chat about how ridiculous what just happened was. «Oh they’ll comp us our beers or something.» Says my lady. Nope. Nothing. If I was a manager here I would get up early the next day and make sure Unilocal took this down. But then again maybe that’s why I’m not the manager here. You would think the proper protocol here is honor this and make your guest not feel weird about it and make sure you get it taken down the next day. Or maybe take care of a beer. Even a legitimate, sincere apology would do. Anything else above a «ya, what Unilocal does is out of our hands.» So, I’ll get out of here hungry and bummed out. You guys should check this place out, it’s seriously incredible. I just hope you don’t need management for anything — it won’t end well.
