The owner is a total jerk… says he doesn’t have time to answer questions, that he has more important things to do. Don’t waste your time going to this store.

This is where I buy almost all of my ammunition. His prices are fair and doesn’t rake you over the coals with his prices by waiting for prices to drop before bringing in new supplies. He carries most common calibers and will often offer deals to customers when buying in bulk.
My most recent trip was to buy lower parts to start putting together some ar15s. Every spring, pin, etc, required was readily available as well as a few must have extra parts for when you need them.
You can also purchase tactical gear like lights, gloves, sights, scopes, etc…
He also stocks various SHTF merchandise like water purifiers and survival rations.
I’ve always had pleasant experiences when doing business here and would recommend this shop to any serious buyer who may even want to learn something while getting their supplies.

Stay far away. Just make the trip across town and avoid this shop. The owner is very upfront about his negative views toward military. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and visit and talk to him. I visited the shop twice on two different occasions. I had general questions about items the store may carry. I asked about a bipod for my SCAR. He told me that was stupid. Once he realized I was military he went off on a rant about how military guys think they know everything and we should ask a professional. I think by professional he was referring to himself? The owner has successfully driven his own business into the ground by being angry and rude. I was prepared to spend some money in his shop. My wife was so disgusted with his attitude toward military she refused to let me even buy a magazine from this shop. Support military and warn your friends!

Don’t waste your time at this place. Owner only cares about his own issues. He sold me an AR15 he built in house. didn’t supply the proprietary tools used remove the rail/​handguard that is sold with the items so I should have been given them when I bought the rifle. called him up and asked him if he had it, he said «yeah, maybe my gunsmith have it, but I’m too busy maybe call back next week» WTF you owe me a wrench you cheap asshole. I’m too busy to ever spend a time in your sad excuse for a shop, nut not to busy to give this review of your crap customer service.

I walked in and made the mistake of asking about an item that he doesn’t carry. The dude seemed genuinely pissed that I would ask. It degenerated into a testosterone drenched 10 minute rambling rant. It was like he’d been drinking Red Bull all day but ran out and was and crashing. «People keep wanting to challenge what I say! …I tell people who want to challenge me to meet me outside! …Because I fight! …I fight 4 days a week!
His prices on the things that he DOES carry are good, not great. Strictly middle of the road. You can get the same or better prices somewhere else without wondering if the salesman wearing the .40 cal is about to end up on the news.

Shop is very small with very few items. I went in with questions about ar-​15s, and the guy there was very short and disrespectful. He didn’t want to explain anything and told me to buy the only ar he had and upgrade it later. He seemed angry I was asking questions.
I ended up leaving because the salesman was downright insulting. There are many better gun stores on the island with much more inventory to choose from and much more helpful staff.

Purchased a couple firearms, several mags and a few tools from Daniel and will be coming back for more. Easy to work with. As I mentioned before he’s very passionate about firearms. I found out he purchased new firearms for use at the Sports Shooting Fair held father’s day weekend 2014. It’s held every father’s day weekend and I’m assuming he’s done this before and will continue to do so. Someone said he brought about 500 firearms for the 2014 Sports Shooting Fair. That seems high to me, but regardless I think it’s great he brings them in for people to try. Someone else mentioned not to go in with pretenses and I agree. I’ll be honest about my ignorance when he talks about ceretain features and ask him what it means, what it does or why it’s bad or good and he’s more than happy to explain them. Once you get to know him, I find that he’s much more approachable than the people at another gun shop I’ve shopped at. Oh, I think his prices are competitive. A rifle I’m looking at is $ 49 cheaper than another shop I visited (of course prices fluctuate).

I bought a pistol from Daniel years ago and was as smooth of a transaction as Hawaii’s draconian and difficult laws allow. He gave spot-​on advice and help in getting through the checks and registration. Fast forward to now and it’s the same great service. Decent selection, but small place (only reason not 5 stars). No doubt, hard to find a location that will allow him to sell this type of merchandise in Kaneohe. Like other reviewers have said, and really it’s a general rule, treat him with respect and you’ll get it. He knows his business inside and out and knows the Hawaii laws like the back of his hand. If you have questions, ask him! Straight shooter, pun entirely intended.

Okay, I made an account just to give a good honest review about my visit there about 2 months ago.
I took a star away because its a nightmare to find the store. It took three tries to get him to answer the phone.
When I got there, there were two other guys buying stuff so I waited my turn.
When Daniel was done with them I explained I was a retired navy MA and was building my own AR-​15 in 7.62X39. I also get him my experience with firearms which is actually pretty substantial.
Daniel was extremely helpful with the build and I spent around $ 400 on the lower build and got exactly what I wanted. Were they the best parts money can buy, no, but they were perfect for what I needed.
Is Daniel intense? Absolutely. But a lot of people come in and try to tell him what’s what in the world of firearms and in a ego match he wins. Bottom line, it’s his store. If you want good parts and great prices and can check your ego at the door, go there. If not, there are several other stores on Oahu to go to.
Myself, I’ll be there tomorrow to start my AK build and will toss him several hundred bucks. For full rifle builds that you are doing yourself… you can’t do better IMHO.

After reading all these Unilocal reviews I had to go see what the fuss was about. I needed a new pocket knife and decided to go here. When I walked in I was immediately surprised at how small it was. There were only 3 other customers in there and I already felt claustrophobic. I waited patiently in the tiny store till the owner saw me. I could already tell he was in a rush to help other customers and all the other negative Unilocal reviews made a little sense. I did not waste any time and asked to see 3 knives and ended up buying one. No problems, no bullcrap. I guess the moral here is, go there knowing what you want. That tiny store has no time to waste for straggler shoppers.

Went in there got my first AR from him. He had some really helpful advices, as long as you know what you want.
Just basic rule, respect him and you will get the samething back.

The owner of this shop is very opinionated, boisterous, and ANTI-​MILITARY. He’s an asshole, and has no problem with showing you exactly how big an asshole he can be! I would never do business with him, and I urge you not to.

Bought my first pistol from Daniel back in the day, I will continue to shop here because I like the fact that he will pull no punches, give you his honest opinion, and stand by what he stated or will stand corrected. His prices are a lot better than certain shops and he is very knowledgeable with regards to military style firearms, and keeps up with current anti-​gun legislation affecting Hawai’i and nationwide. Go in with an open mind and decide for yourself.

I have been there twice and both times the customer service was lacking to say the least. Most gun shops are all about customer service and Daniel doesn’t seem to get that.

I can tell he’s GOOD at what he does.

DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE STORE. Called up to get a price/​stock check on an item and was told «I don’t have time for this» and he basically hung up on me after that. Not inclined to give my money to someone who is openly rude over the phone, and apparently not interested in making a sale. Strange behavior for an alleged businessman! I’ll be giving my money to someone else, thanks.

Prices aren’t that bad… That’s where the good ends! This guy is an ass with a messed up attitude.
For the life of me I can not believe he actually has customers that buy from him. I was in his store when a couple came in to inquire about a firearms safety class and the potential purchase of a couple of handguns. He treated them like crap… he actually treated them so bad they just turned their backs and walked out. When I ran into them outside, I just told them to go to Security Equipment, Young Guns or OCG Tactical or Gun Source.
Perhaps Daniel should take some of his profits and take some classes on improving his personality. He is right up there with with Magnum Firearms (when they were in business… before his little IRS thing).
Oh…and his claims of giving discounts to firearms instructors… well when I showed him I was an NRA instructor, his comment was «Well I don’t know you, so I won’t give you one». Well it’s his store and he can do as he pleases, but he talked himself out of a sale that day. I actually was in the market to buy a 1911. Yes, his price was good (attitude was bad).
Too bad this site doesn’t have like an eighth of a star to give.

It is funny reading the reviews on this store. If you are looking to have your butt kissed, don’t go in, it’s not that kind of establishment. If, however, you are man– (or women-​) enough to handle a reality check and some honest answers, then there is probably no better place than KGS and Daniel. Anyone that knows him, realized quickly that he is opinionated and sometimes controversial, but it comes from years of experience and trigger-​time. If you can put your ego aside long enough to listen, he will freely give you his knowledge and experience.
I recommend KGS to anyone that wants to be treated fairly and with brutal honesty.

I’ve heard/​read non-​stop bashing about KGS and Daniel. I’m no fan-​boy but I have a feeling that the majority of people go in there with a presumption of his character and/​or do not appreciate critique. I’ve been there more than a dozen times, and more than half the time, I have gone to just talk to him, with no intent on purchase.
Believe me, I’ve been to other shops on the island and I appreciate many different things from different shops (all which have their nay-​sayers as well).
You need only to check out his website
to realize that he’s very blunt and, in my opinion, logical in his opinions. You may not agree but of the times I’ve been there and observed «debates», it has never gotten to the point of bashing customers. I have seen an irate customer come in to work out a refund of sort, but Daniel was very composed and talked in a very calm matter, as to work out a solution.
I am not to say that fellow Unilocalers are wrong, but people thinking of going to this shop should just be aware of the fact that he has strong opinions and states them vehemently.
I continue to go because I like his no BS approach to firearms/​safety and really, his prices are some of the best on the island (comparable to some wholesale online prices).
If you are a repeat customer, you get more discounts. Makes sense to me.

I’d give this place no stars just because Daniel is a real ass when it comes to customer service. You would figure, the way the economy is now, you’d do a lot to make customers happy… not this guy. Rude, inconsiderate and plainly has no social skills whatsoever. You first walk in… small, nice tucked away shop, then you get greeted with the weirdest look by the owner. It’s like you’re looked down upon for some odd reason. Come into the shop with a military uniform and you’ll get it worse.
His prices are one of the best in the island, but who would want to buy anything from a guy who just doesn’t want to sell you anything. I was there when a military guy was shopping for a Glock. Daniel (the owner) says this to him…“do you have a gun license… if not it’s a waste of my time showing you anything in my shelf because you can’t buy anything anyway!” That’s the best sales tactic I’ve ever heard! He’s a «Mister Know-​It-​All» and if you come in not having any clue on what to buy… good luck!
I’d recommend Magnum Firearms over this guy… at least Art (the owner) is a little more considerate and that’s not saying much!
