I went in on a late Saturday afternoon and had the daily special. For $ 7.50 I got a healthy portion of Rib Tips, fries, a slice of Texas toast and pickle wedge. The price was right and the meat was smoked well with a nice flavorful rub. It was good but not good enough to make it a return BBQ joint for me based on just the rib tips and the choices in KC for BBQ. I will return simply because of the«mom and pop» feel and the friendly people and dig deeper into the menu. It was a bit slow from ordering to being served but 2 large to-go orders were ahead of me. They have fried fish, and burgers and a full bbq selection. They also have lots of desert options. Yeah for the little guys!

This is a great little spot in KCK recommended by my brother who lives in Strawberry Hill. The restaurant had a great feel and the staff were very welcoming. The food is reasonably priced but the servings and flavor are out of this world. My sister ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich which she raved about. I watched my brother chow down a triple cheeseburger with fries while his partner enjoyed a beautiful chef salad(with real lettuce, not that bag junk!) I ordered the daily special, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, and yams. The meal included bread of your choice, I chose cornbread. The special was $ 7…considering the size of the servings and the quality of the food, it was a great deal! Everything tasted amazing and I had enough to take home for another meal. The only downfall I saw was there was no iced tea on the menu, sweetened or otherwise. The coffee was superior! Although the we did not try the BBQ, I hear it’s excellent. Definitely recommend this place.

Ate lunch there the other day, had the special . Smothered pork chops, green beans, yams and cornbread. Let me say this is the real deal! Folks from the south who know how to season food and fill you up. Had the pear cobbler for dessert. Fabulous!!!

Calling this a little hole in the wall sounds bad but that’s not what my intent is. But it is one of those little places just off the beaten path that is amazing. The people are wonderful and so is their food. Whatever you may get be sure you try the Sweet Heat bbq sauce!

Having lived across the street from this place for over a year, I finally decided to stop in. And I was NOT disappointed! Others have mentioned that the prices were a little high, but I did not share that experience. I have eaten here on several different occasions now, making sure to take advantage of their daily specials. Weekly, they do a full slab special with 2 sides and a drink for $ 20. Not too bad. Portions are huge(not to mention delicious). My brother frequented this spot for quite a while, and it is such a good feeling when they remember you! It really shows that they take pride in their business. Every morning, we can smell the meat being smoked at my house from this place, and it’s such a delight to wake up to. Strawberry Hill has so much to offer, and I feel like little places like this just get skipped over because they are in KCK. People! Take the chance! Go and try some of the places down there! Great little family owned place! I have never had a bad experience here!

I ate here for the first time after touring the Strawberry Hill Mansion Museum. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was laid back — after my friend and I finished our meal, we sat and talked for another half hour without feeling the need to rush out the door. I had a barbecue turkey sandwich, and it was delicious — the meat was warm, smoky, and flavorful. If you like spicy sauce, you must try the sweet heat. The fries were also fresh and just right in terms of thickness and crispness. My only problems were with the portions and the price. I ordered a single turkey sandwich($ 7.50) instead of a double(closer to $ 9). For $ 10 after tax and tip, I expected more than a few slices of meat tucked between two slices of Wonderbread. Don’t get me wrong — it was delicious, and I would definitely eat there again, but I’d probably order something else.

LOVE this place, and can’t believe my kids have been holding out on me! I lived in Kansas City for 11 years before moving to Maryland, and never heard of this place… oh, what I missed out on! My daughter and her husband now live in KCK, along with my son,(transplanted from JoCo) in the Strawberry Hill area, which has a lot of really charming businesses. And let me just say that people need to get over their prejudices about KCK… this is really NOT a bad area. I swear! With that said… my daughter and I were driving back to her house, drove past this place, and I could smell the meat being smoked. I asked my daughter about it, and she told me that they have great«soul food», so I immediately wanted to go. We got back to the house, and my son and I decided to go for lunch(my daughter had to stay home with the sick baby… her loss!). We were able to walk here from their house, which was nice as there is no designated parking here(but plenty of room to park on the street). As soon as you walk in, you’ll think you’re in a Louisiana food shack. And the smell of the food makes your mouth water the second the door opens. They have a limited menu, plus some daily specials, and handwritten notes about the homemade dessert of the day. The ladies behind the counter were super friendly, making jokes when my son tried to pay for lunch and I wouldn’t let him, and letting us know that(to my disappointment) they were completely out of bread pudding. My son got the burnt ends with the«sweet heat» sauce and I ordered the catfish strip basket. Both were amazing! As soon as I tasted the catfish, I knew someone doing the cooking had to be from somewhere down south, so I asked our server, who informed me that her mother was from Louisiana… I knew it! You can just TASTE the south in this food! And the portions are huge! I couldn’t eat all of my food, so I got a box to take it home and my mother in law and son in law both finished it off. Then came dessert… homemade pecan pie, served hot. Mmmmmm… as one other reviewer said about another menu item, it was«off da chain!» Prices are pretty reasonable… for both of our meals, including 2 desserts and drinks, it came to $ 25. My son said he plans to make this a regular place, and the server said she did recognize him from being in a few times before, so I’m sure there will be a lot of return business for this place. And I know that any time I come back to visit, I’ll definitely stop in!

First thing, some of you people spend way too much time watching Elizabeth Alex or Larry Moore rant and rave about how dangerous KCK is. You can’t be a true Unilocaler if you’re that affected by other people’s perceptions or misperceptions about different parts of town. For Pete’s sake, none of us would go ANYWHERE if we believed everything everyone said about anyplace. CHEEZES. Sometimes I wonder if it’s just Kansas City period. I’ve lived in other cities and not seen as much prejudice towards one part of town as I have in this metro area. Ok, with that said, Big Grill and More is in my neighborhood and as with most businesses, I want to see them succeed. I have eaten here 3 or 4 times and each time has been different so there is a consistency issue here. That doesn’t stop me from patronizing a joint, necessarily. The staff is nice but a bit slow but, hamburgers and other sandwiches that are not«tanning» underneath lamps take more time to cook and I“m willing to wait, or I’ll call in ahead. Last night, I had a double cheeseburger and fries. Guy was super nice but cheezes! The burger was stuffed onto a paper boat with a fistful of fries and a can of pop for almost $ 9.00. Sorry, that’s a bit pricey in my book and I don’t think the burger tasted any different than some of the chains. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t special either. Now a few weeks ago, I had a tenderloin that was OFF-DA-CHAIN! I mean, like old school days. Dee-frigging-lishus! PERFECT! The time before was some barbecue like burnt ends. Good flavor but too much gristle. Time before was a regular cheeseburger and it was tasty also but the prices are a little high sometimes. Maybe that’s because these are individually cooked and I can cut a joint some slack on that. Oh, I’ll be back to the Big Grill. Fresh is worth extra and supporting the neighborhood businesses is worth doing. I know they are putting some effort into what they are doing and I wish them the best of luck.

This place has to have one of the absolute most juicy burgers in all of KC. They have the fries that will cross yo eyes! If you dare to come to the hoody hood downtown KCK then I would definitely say you need to come here and get yo grub on. The service here is amazing. I’m talking about down to Earth people that know how to treat you right. If you are worried about being in this part of KC you really don’t need to be all that concerned. It is pretty close to police headquarters, the courthouse and other public service buildings and there are usually detectives, lawyers and other public officials eating at this joint. They have live music on the weekends and the place has a good atmosphere. Although there is no private parking, you can pretty much see your car at all times if you park close enough. You have pretty quick access to I-70/670 and makes it easy to get to. I would like to recommend the double burger with cheese/fries and a side of okra. That is some of the best okra that I have had in all of KC. Don’t hurt yourself when you bite into that juicy, yummy, delicious, savory, mouth watering, slap yo mamma burger. Their tenderloin is HUGE and the side of beans is oh so good in my mouth. I’ll put it to you like this: I walked in there, but I limped out. This is not like the little dude with small hands that can’t go to BK and eat an 1100 calorie burger. You best believe that! These burgers are made homestyle fresh. So come check this place out and let me know when you go. I’m always done for the big grill, this time I got my cane.
