First time here, with a Groupon. Excellent turkey sandwich! Bread was awesome. I had all the veggies put on it and they were very fresh. Bought a cupcake, too, and it was super moist. The gals that work there are very friendly. Worth it!!!

I don’t usually eat in a food court. Their cinnamon buns are exceptional — and reason enough to visit the food court on consecutive mornings.

There was a Groupon for this Crown Center deli/bakery, so I decided it was time to try it. The place is neat and clean. The bakery on display in the cases looks adorable, but I didn’t try it. The prices on the bakery seemed a little too high overall. I ordered their one vegetarian sandwich. It was okay, although I found the sauce used on it to be too sweet and it was a mess to eat. I wish they had a hot veggie option and maybe a tuna option. BF had a spicy sandwich to which he added bacon. He liked it better than i liked mine. All told, with a $ 14 Groupon, two small sandwiches, two small chips and two fountain drinks came out to $ 5. So $ 20 without the Groupon? There are too many options in and near Crown Center where you can get great food for $ 20 for me to return, I’m afraid. The service, however, was very friendly, albeit very slow. Another weird thing — no soups available on the weekends and no breakfast served on Sunday. ???

I’m pretty sure Big Momma’s served me the best turkey sandwich I have ever had. The turkey was good and fresh, but the bread put it over the top. This place has some of the best bread I’ve ever tasted. They also sell sweets as well, so with them being a baker I had to try at least one cookie. I’m not a huge fan of deserts but the chocolate chip cookies was MONEY! If you’re in Kansas City, please don’t miss out on this place!

My office is in Crown Center(worked here nearly 2 years) so I frequent the food shops down there for lunch. Never been into Big Momma’s because I try not to do sweets, I thought this was just a bakery. I have heard nothing but great things about the cinnamon rolls though. To my pleasant surprise Groupon informed me that they also had sandwiches, amongst other things, so I purchased it and proceeded to lunch a couple days ago. Only one woman was working at the time so it took several minutes to be greeted and serviced but turned out to be well worth the wait! Split a Hot Momma and a Beefy Momma with a co-worker and they were both awesome. I wish I had known they had more than baked goods a long time ago, this is definitely my new favorite lunch spot in Crown Center!

Grabbed dessert here. After all the cinnamon roll reviews, I had to try one. Roll was sitting in the bakery display, and I asked for it to be heated. Outside was a little dry(due to sitting, I suppose) but get to the rich middle, and it was a wonderful taste explosion. I was quite pleased. Definitely leaps above anything like Cinnabon, etc. Docked one star just for freshness. Otherwise, I was very happy.

Had to go here for a puppy meeting and had them deliver lunch to us. Ordering was easy, simple and quick. Staff are very pleasant and always cheerful. The food… What is there to say about a cinnamon roll done to perfection except that it goes very well with other baked goods done equally as well. A basic bakery and sandwich shop but done absolutely the right way. Never a disappointment. Don’t miss this place if you are even close to Crown Plaza. I give it four paws!

Dinner rolls alone are worth 5 stars. Soft, buttery heaven in your mouth. If that’s not enough, take a big, sandwich-size version of those and load it up with roast beef, horseradish sauce, pepper sauce, lettuce and tomato… they call it a Hot Momma… oh, yes, Lawd! Sweet and hot together make a wonderful combination! Hard to believe, I haven’t tried the sweet stuff. If a cinnamon roll doesn’t come from the food truck that used to be at the American Royal years ago, inverted out of the pan so the butter and cinnamon goo run down over it… well, I’ll pass. The cakes look pretty and delicious, though. And they serve Roasterie coffee, which always makes me happy. The girls behind the counter are always friendly, and if the, uh, careful way they assemble the sandwiches and salads takes a bit, the product is worth the wait.

Giants cinnamon rolls! Need I say more? I was on the hunt for some breakfast at the Crown Center when I passed up the Einstein Bros. and found this little place(I always try to eat local when I travel) and noticed the GIANT rolls. I love me some cinnamon rolls, so I stopped in. I got a couple minis and a breakfast sandwich. The buns were heavenly and the sandwich top notch. On top of that the staff was super friendly. I highly recommend! I wish I could have fit the Big Momma roll in my carry-on.

I probably should not be posting at this time. I had a groupon because I knew I was coming to KC — so I was excited. The service was sooooo disappointing though. Right at the time we got there — there was a conference which let out. For this I can not blame them — however, they took way too long making sandwiches — and should have had someone working just on the few people who stopped in for a cinnamon roll. The most annoying thing was that as soon as I got up to order — the woman turned away and hung by the women making the sandwiches for the next 3 – 5 minutes. She did nothing and I am sure she was waiting until the sandwiches got caught up — but you don’t ignore and pretend like no one is there — nothing was said or I would have pointed out I was only in line for cinnamon rolls. They had no place for the people who were waiting for sandwiches to wait — so the line was ridiculously confusing. The rolls are only okay — I asked for some with extra frosting and did not get that — I will make my own to add when I get back to Omaha. It would also be nice if there was an option for warm rolls to eat right there. Not a place I am rushing back too.

The carrot cake is excellent. I smell booze in it. The cinnamon rolls are very good but not unique like the carrot cake. The ladies at the shop are quite pleasant. The Biblical verse on the package negates one of the seven deadly sins-gluttony. 10⁄16 — I returned to try the rolls and the wedding cake. The rolls are great, the wedding cake is… let’s just say, Big Momma-will you marry me?

What first drew my husband and I to this place was the the amazing smell… but what has kept us coming back is the amazing, big as your head cinnamon rolls! The big momma cinnamon roll is plenty big for up to four people to share, and it is absolutely amazing! It has just the right amount of cinnamon and icing and just about melts in your mouth! We have also branched out and tried the cupcakes here, which are equally as amazing. We have yet to be disappointed by anything we’ve tried here! To top off the amazing food, this place also has amazing service! The people behind the counter are always very warm and very helpful. This is and probably always will be one of the first places we stop when we visit Kansas City!

I had seen this place on the Food Channel and I had read several good reviews so I decided to try it. To be fair, I only tried their cinnmon rolls but that alone made me fall in love with this bakery. After debating with myself trying to decide between buying this one gigantic roll or the tray of four, I opted for the four-pack. Later at home I decided to try one and after thirty seconds in the microwave, the cinnamon roll was warmed to perfection. Then I took the first bite. They are rare, but I experienced a mouth orgasm. Just twenty minutes later, all four cinnamon rolls had been consumed in a rather disgusting but ever so wondrful display of wanton gluttony. If you appreciate the cinnmoan roll, you MUST go to this bakery. They are absolutely delicious.

I SO want to give Big Momma’s more stars but I have to review both the food and the business. PROS — The rolls they use for the sandwiches are so yummy and divine. Slightly sweet, buttery, and great with any sandwich you choose. Call me crazy but I love when there is a little hint of sweet cinnamon on it. maybe from being next to the cinnamon rolls at some point. — This is my favorite veggie sandwich anywhere. It’s pretty simple but always crisp fresh veggie.(I don’t recommend the sprouts though, but that’s my personal taste) The roast beef sandwich is also a favorite. –Desserts.oh, let me count the ways. BIG a** cake slices that are always fresh, moist and melt in your mouth. Cupcakes are not nearly as good but still good. The decorated sugar cookies are also really good and not just a pretty design. They also make the sugar cookies to match local activities. clever idea. –The food alone…4−5 stars. I keep going back for more.(It helps I work nearby) CONS –S.L.O.W. Like I said, I work nearby. I try to get there when it’s less crowded but it still seems to take waaaayyy to long. Almost every time I am there, they seem to be chatting with each other, slowing the process. or someone checking you out that has no clue how to use the cash register. If you offer a Groupon or sale, know exactly how to accept them. I would also use them to cater lunches but due to their speed, I just can’t pull the trigger. I can’t have people waiting. — They have way too many display cases so by 11am, it looks like they are sold out. From a sales perspective, it always looks like they are a company that is just opening and unsure what products to sell. Some rolls on the bottom shelves for the sandwiches, some cinnamon rolls tossed over on the right and decorative cookies stacked on a little tray. Spread things out and«style» things up a little. — The items that need refrigeration are past the cash register. so you don’t even notice them until it’s too late. especially if there are a few people waiting. — It’s just an odd layout all together. Tons of wasted space. — This place is well known for their cinnamon rolls yet there is NO bakery smell to the place. They obviously make them out of house and bring them all in daily… which is so sad. «Waste» a couple rolls each day and heat them up in the microwave so you can get the smell in the business. or something. ;) So, there ya go. The food is great but the business side needs some work.

Big Momma’s Bakery in Crown Center was Sis & my destination the other morning and it turned out to be an underwhelming visit. We were only looking for a cinnamon roll and cup of coffee and since I used to LUV the cinnamon rolls at the old location in Raytown I was really looking forward to introducing Sis to a new crave-able. They were not too busy and the rolls, in sizes from mini to huge, looked appropriately tempting but right away I noticed there was no yummy smell wafting around the store reeling me in. We each made a selection from the bakery case and then had to be the ones to request that they be heated(microwaved). An additional glitch turned up when Sis noticed that the coffee cups for to-go coffee were Styrofoam which can trigger an allergy for Sis. We asked if they have a paper version of their cups, but they did not. So we got the rolls and walked down to Einsteins Brother’s Bagels to get coffee. We had our rolls and coffee in the open seating courtyard overlooking the street and sadly the rolls are different than they used to be and not in an improved way. Unfortunately. The ones we had were too ‘bread-y’ and even warmed up, they were dry. Where the cinnamon and sugar and icing reached it was close to the ones I used to love a couple of years ago, but all the rest — not so much. That is too bad and I hope it was just a less good batch. But honestly, I doubt I’ll make much of an effort to go for another visit any time soon. And Sis is even less likely to make another visit, since she is a big coffee drinker. I expect the two of us will just end up down at Einsteins with a bagel instead.

I just have to keep giving this place a try, especially since I work in the building across the street. And its getting better. In fact, if there was a half star option, I would rate 3 ½ stars. I go there weekly now. The bread and dinner rolls have that ever so slight sweet taste that is just phenomenal on a ham and salami sammich with lettuce and American cheese(feel free to steal this sweet sammich beauty). Not that they sell that, I just buy my rolls to go. But its a taste that has no equal south of my favorite sandwich place in Illinois, La Gondola. The cinnamon rolls here are so flippin amazing! I buy them for a weekend breakfast indulgance. There are heating instructions printed on the label for that fresh out of the oven yummola experience. I’ve saved the best for last… brace yourselves… they now sell WEDDINGCAKE by-the-slice!!! Everyday! True story. I’m not talking white cake with kinda«wedding cake-like» frosting. I’m talking the real deal recipe. So now you don’t have to wait for your step brother’s cousin’s friend’s wedding to get that flavor that can only be described as a sweetastic ride to Buttercream Town. So feel free to go ahead and skip that stupid wedding. You know you were only going for the cake anyway.

When they were in Raytown, I used to go there every week. That being, they are now at Crown Center. Much has changed. I had a Groupon, and was intending on a full on bakery, like the original shop on 63rd and Woodson. I went here on a Sunday, about a half hour after they were opened. They had for sale, a few small cupcakes(standard size, chocolate or strawberry, dollop of frosting, $ 2.50). Large sized buns-$ 2.50. Rolls discounted ½ price, which I bought. Cookies were .99, which I bought 3 of. Cinnamon rolls which they are known for, small, medium, and dinner plate size. I wasn’t there for sandwiches, but the food used to be really good. There is a menu, and drinks, soft drinks, and coffee in pourable thermoses. Frankly, unfortunately, I was unimpressed. I normally go wild in a bakery, but I walked away with cinnamon rolls, cookies that should’ve been soft, and rolls I’ll warm up later. The cinnamon rolls were not warm. Not bad for a Groupon haul, but not good either. Great service. Unfortunately, baked items: I can make my own, or buy Pepperidge Farms cookies which are soft. Edit: I should add: I just tried the cinnamon rolls, and they aren’t as good as they were at the original store, in Raytown. They aren’t warm, the filling is just present, basic cinnamon/sugar and butter, but not overfilled or including nuts or raisins. The dough is sweet, like the dinner rolls. I had the medium sized rolls. The bakery fits a purpose at Crown Center, but I’ve had better.

The cinnamon rolls and the dinner rolls are outstanding! If I could give them more than 5 stars on the dinner rolls I would. Their big cinnamon rolls are huge; enough for 4 people. They have smaller sizes as well. I look for any excuse I can to get their dinner rolls. I’ve had some of their other sweets; cookies, cupcakes, cake; and they are ok. I wouldn’t make a special trip for any of those items. They also do lunch, which I have not yet tried, but am anxious to try someday since they it looks like they use those amazing dinner rolls as the bread for their sandwiches! Go buy some dinner rolls and pick up a huge cinnamon roll for breakfast!

They bake a lot of things but it it obvious that the cinnamon rolls are the feature here. They come in metal pans and can be viewed as you wait in line against the glass case. I expected a big cinnamon roll smell to be wafting from the place, but not so much. I am not so sure they are even baked here, so that will definitely cut down on all the yummy baked goods fragrance. Once home we indulged in a couple rolls. Icing was good, although most of it settled at the bottom of the pan. They were not Me Ma’s moist… they had a light airy consistency that only last a couple hours before they became dry. They are not the worst cinnamon rolls, but I wont be running back anytime soon. Meh.
