One of those places that I’d like to like, but it just didn’t do it for us. On the plus side, the service was friendly enough. But the food was just so darn bland. I ordered a burrito with pork and queso, and it was a blind taste test, I’d have assumed it was a simple bean burrito. It was just overwhelmed with refried beans. It was like that with the remainder of our order. Nothing better than what you get at Taco Bell. Some have argued that this place is as good as the Mexican restaurants on the Blvd., but I would strongly disagree. The menu here is very limited compared to those places, and the food just isn’t nearly as good. I hope they can make some headway and get it to where it’s a thriving business. Because I love seeing locally-owned places succeed. But they’ve got a lot of work to do. (I should also mention this is the second time we attempted to dine there. The first was on a Sunday evening. Their website lists closing time on Sunday as 6 pm. But it was closed when we showed up at 5:15. I’d suggest calling ahead to make sure they’re open.)

Ate there with a work group(3) for lunch. All of us were happy with the taste of our food. Unfortunately, the waitress added«spread» to 2⁄3 of our orders and added a spread charge to the other(with no spread actually on the burrito). Also as we left, we got to-go menus and found out they have a weekly lunch burrito special for $ 5. It was the same thing we ordered and payed extra for and no one told us about this special.

I really wanted to like this place. I tried to cut them some slack cause they’re new. This burrito is the saddest most pathetic thing I have ever laid eyes on, and it’s not what I ordered. I am not going to bother going back.

There’s a reason it’s called Burrito Joe’s and not Burrito Jose’s.

I really hate doing this, especially a local business, but they truely earned their rating. I’ve gone their at least 6 or 7 times, and every time my order is wrong. They either leave something out, charge me too much, or never have my order ready to pick up after calling it in. I really wanted to like this place. The food WAS good(it’s gone quite downhill since opening). I went back several times knowing they’re a new restaurant and they’re working things out and I should give them a chance, but their chance is up. This last time we picked up food, our order was wrong. I called(I’ve called several times before) to inform them, and they just said, sorry we’ll hook you up next time you come in… but I’m afraid they’re won’t be a next time. I’ve even went to them and the management to tell them about my experiences, and they have never followed up with me regarding them, and they seem inconvenienced. Really wanted to like them, but I’m done, I hope they do improve, I thought they would be a great fit for the neighborhood.

I can make a better burrito out of a can of beans from the grocery store and my taco meat was the cheapest, driest, burnt meat with absolutely no flavor at all. Eat elsewhere.

Don’t go here. Especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Their rice and beans both have lard/chicken and the offered alternative option to those items are canned black beans and minute rice. They advertise being vegetarian freindly but they really aren’t. The waitress that served us wasn’t very friendly either. She acted like our special requests for vegetarian food was an «issue». I don’t think this place is ready to serve the 39th street area.

In location of former Szechuan House. Specializes in burritos and in tacos in soft shell flour tortillas. No seafood, so no shrimp or fish tacos. But if you are a vegetarian, you can do surprisingly well here. They have three vegetarian plates, including veggie burrito, bean burrito, and grilled Mexican veggies. If you want the veggies grilled on a skillet, so not on a surface used with meat, they’ll do it. The Mexican rice contains chicken stock, but you can substitute white rice or black beans. I went with the beans, and they are very good. I also got a side of guacomole. Oddly the only beans listed on the menu are refried beans, but they have black beans, if you request. The flour tortilla’s here are better than the corn tortilla’s, which are the kind used to produce taco shells(resemble cardboard). The burritos here are very good. Their regular salsa is very mild, so I also got their hot sauce. The two combined are good. They don’t yet have a liquor license, and estimate that they won’t for about 45 days. I hope they can survive the 45 days.

I was very excited when I found out about Burrito Joe’s opening and couldn’t wait to try it out but after my visit I immediately thought they won’t be in business long if they keep up that type of environment. I understand they just opened a week ago but I didn’t feel welcomed at all. There is no real greeting station when you walk in the door and I just stood there until the owner came over abruptly and asked if I needed help. When I stated I wanted to order something to-go, he points across the room to a waitress serving a table and said see her, she’ll help you. The waitress was not very friendly either and I even had to ask for a menu to look at because she didn’t offer me one. I then had to stand in the middle of the dining area and wait as they made up my burrito and threw it in the microwave to be heated. I then had to wait almost 5 minutes for someone else to acknowledge me and take my money. The food was just ok, I had the Carnitas Burrito and rice. The rice was very good but the carnitas was lacking some seasoning. All in all, I’ve had much better mexican food on the Boulevard for the same price and probably won’t be going back to Burrito Joe’s anytime soon.

They just opened today and I had the menudo and chorizo and eggs. It like eating at my moms house. Great” old school” food.
