The beef on the point(which comes from the best part of the brisket) is the best brisket I’ve ever had. So moist and the perfect amount of fat. Nothing like the crappy, dry sliced brisket I’ve had almost every other place in KC. The ribs were very very good. A small step below KC Joe’s. The chicken was very very good as well. The burnt ends were terrible. Dry and very little fat. LC’s reins king on burnt ends. The brisket and ribs make this place so worth checking out though. One of my favorite in all of KC now.

Little known place just as good as any of the big name BBQ joint. Great food and service. You can’t really go wrong with anything you order here. Probably the best pulled pork in town. I’d also recommend the outstanding onion rings. My only complaint is I wish the were open more as I think they only do lunch hours during the week.

One of the best bbq joints in town that you may have never heard of. I recommend getting the Big D which is sliced brisket from the point that just melts in your mouth. It’s served on Rye marble bread with Swiss cheese and an onion ring.

If you want quality«home-style» BBQ in KC then this is the place to come. Small operation with very friendly employees. Danny has sacrificed expansion to keep the quality of his BBQ some of the nation’s best. HIGHLY recommend! Great BBQ!

Went here for lunch and had the burnt tips sandwich and it was great. The weather was pretty warm so we sat outside and got to enjoy the sun and some slow moving trains going by. I was a bit worried when we first got there as there were a bunch of cars out front but there was room both inside and outside and our meals came out pretty fast. The sandwich was stuffed to overflowing so I had some just using a fork and then had a tasty sandwich.

Outstanding que at this landmark KC bbq joint, this is how great bbq should be served. Easy parking, great menu and selection, super friendly people working here, nice smoke smell in the place so you know they’re smoking the meats right on site. Had no wait, walked right up and ordered. Brisket was perfect, tender, moist, cut nice and thick, great smoke flavor. Pulled pork was also top notch, velvety smooth, very tasty. Had the burnt ends, they were pretty good, probably wouldn’t order them again but have to say they were decent. They don’t offer any kinds of sausage which I found a little odd but I’ll go with it, got plenty to eat, had my fill and the wallet wasn’t hurt too much, prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Sauce options are waiting for you on the tables, tried all of them, very good. They have people walking the lunch room floor refilling your drinks for you and clearing your table, very nice and friendly atmosphere. Just picnic table type dining, but that’s how que should be served, super casual and laid back. Would definitely return to this joint.

Delicious! I thought the big D might be weird cause of the onion rings but it was awesome! Nice comfort food. My friend’s burnt ends plate was also great, but the sweet potato fries were just ok. The service was quick and friendly. I will recommend it to my friends and people visiting!

Holy smokes. Went here for lunch today, and was absolutely floored. Here are three reasons why Danny Edwards May Be the Most Underrated BBQ place in KC: 1. Great food. I had the brisket sandwich, and I was incredibly impressed with the slice size of the brisket(this is Texas brisket thick-cut style we’re talking about here) as well as the tenderness and seasoning. Furthermore, they pile it on a large sandwich and it is well worth the 8.99 price tag. While I personally would have liked sliced bread rather than a bun, the amount of quality meat they put on it made it more than worth the sacrifice in starch. 2. Very reasonable prices. Compared to most BBQ places in the city, the cost-food ratio at Danny Edwards is really hard to beat. I paid around 14 bucks for a meal that would probably be worth 20 bucks at most bbq places. While I have only tried the brisket, the person I went with remarked that the Chicken Salad she had was satisfying and something unique you don’t see at most BBQ places in the city. Add that at a very reasonable six buck cost, and you can see why Danny Edwards remains a popular BBQ option for the lunch time city crowd. 3. Great service. BBQ places usually are a «do it yourself» affair. Not at Danny Edwards. They serve you your food, refill your drinks and are very attentive to anything you may need(my friend requested hot sauce and they got it without hesitation). At most places with service, it seems too fancy, but at Danny Edwards their service is helpful and genuine and make you feel at home. The place is not perfect sure. It is only open for lunch, and it seems like it can fill up quickly(we got there by 11 and it was pretty calm but by 11:30 the crowd had already began to rush in). This was featured in some Williams and Sonoma promotions, and rightfully so. The BBQ ranks up there with the best in KC, and you aren’t paying nearly as much as some of those other places that generate more tourist«Fan fare». If you get tired of the long lines of Joes or Bryant’s and are looking for something within the city for lunch, then you can’t beat Danny Edward’s.

Went there today with family. Great Southern(pulled pork-slaw)sandwich! Brisket is very good. Loved the cornbread pudding. Has a nice bite. Excellent fries. The bbq sauce seems southern style. Outstanding service!

If you live anywhere close, you can never go wrong with Danny Edwards. The staff are very friendly, though this might be because my roommate and I are now regulars. The barbecue itself is good for KC, and great for anywhere else; the only complaint I have is about their sauce. I’m not quite sure what the flavor is, but I’m not a big fan. Overall, while not on my short list, Danny Edward’s has good barbecue for a good price, and I’d recommend stopping by.

We got there at 11:10am, this is a working man’s lunch place, so the line was quick, the employees were friendly, happy and helpful with menu. The atmosphere was clean and simple. The patrons were loyal and talkative. I got pork short ribs, half slab, and cole slaw, spouse got pulled pork, onion rings, potato salad, bread pudding. We enjoyed the food, typical barbecue for KC area, their sauce is tomato base and mild, still a nice flavor. The meats were smoked just right, very nice smell and flavor. The sides were home made, which were average. Dessert was poor… Drinks were standard fair… So for a barbecue place the meats were good, I go back for them. The hidden surprise were the onion rings, fantastic . So meat and onion rings I find it hard to overly praise or criticize a place until I go back the second time. As we left the line was out the door, so this place has a following . Good time

This is an exclusively lunch bbq spot. It can get pretty busy, but the traffic flows quickly and I’ve never had to wait too long. The serving sizes are incredible. The pork sandwich overflows with meat and it comes with a half order of onion rings and another side. If you get fries, prepare to be very full. Concerning quality, it’s good bbq. It’s not my favorite, but the smokey flavor is there and the quality is great. The sauce isn’t my style but it is acceptable. Just a bit runny. The fries are very good for me. The ambience is cafeteria style. You won’t be blown away with fanciness. But the ladies who work there are very friendly and I’ll keep coming back.

Fast, friendly service(somewhat rare in KC), reasonable prices, good samplers, and most importantly: great food! The ribs are really tender, flavorful, and have a good smoke to them. Brisket has a great smoke ring with plenty of flavor, as well as being super tender, the brisket was great. Burnt ends are OK. Not really special in comparison with LCs, Jack Stack, Arthur’s, or Joes. The half chicken, though, was excellent. Super moist and flavorful– a real surprise. In terms of the sides, this was the let down for me. Fries were just average, beans tasted more like chili, and slaw wasn’t much. If not for the sides, it’s a 5 star since the meat is great, but I can’t give 5 stars with numerous KC spots having great meals all around. Nonetheless, it’s a solid spot to stop in for some good BBQ meat!

A group of four of us enjoyed our evening at Danny Edward’s last week. Four old friends who love to dine out at good restaurants. None of us had been to this BBQ place before hard as that is to imagine. We were excited to have a great dinner here. Almost everything went well. It was a very positive experience. The staff seemed well trained, energetic and attentive. The Stella tasted watery to me. I sent it back but no problem. I was pleased to see it had been removed from the bill. We always like it when a restaurant recovers quickly and quietly from a mishap. Highly recommended place. Compare this barbeque to the other great bbq places in town and I cannot do it. I loved it here but I will love it someplace else next week!

Ordered«The Big D» sandwich, fries, and a side of slaw to go. Simple/casual décor with a family service feel. The sandwich should be eaten right away to prevent the bread from getting soggy and keep the onion rings crispy. Nice flavors without being overly salted. Yay! 4th star just for that. Did not need a mandatory bbq nap after eating it. Part of that could be due to the fact that I shared which was a good idea.

I give most KCBBQ joints 5 stars because it’s all so darn good. Danny Edwards is only for lunch and you stand in line, sometimes outside, go early. The pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket, and everything else on the menu is the best ever(again; almost all KCBBQ is the best ever). KCBBQ is so competitive that anyplace you go is good and many are great — Danny Edwards is one of the great ones.

So I really wish I could give half stars because this really is a solid 3.5. It’s not quite a 4 for me. If someone suggested to go here, I wouldn’t swat them on the nose with a newspaper but I wouldn’t rush to go here either. I had a combo sandwich with beef and pork. I guess in my mind, you can’t really go wrong with those two meat choices. They are the safe choice in the bbq world. I mean you’d be hard pressed to make some beef that I won’t eat and swine is almost always fine to me. The beef was pretty tasty and the pork was okay. It was just a bit dry but I came at the end of their day so I won’t count that against them. I had fries and baked beans as the sides. I loved the fries but I love seasoning salt lol so they were winning for me. I wanted to love the beans. I just can’t. That makes me sad. As for the staffing, they were friendly and helpful. I ordered to go so I didn’t have much interaction with them. Overall it was a good experience but just that, good.

Got their late for lunch today just before closing. Had the turkey and Ol Smoky combo sandwich with fries and jambalaya. Everything was delicious. My wife had brisket and ham combo sandwich with onion rings and beans. Again, everything was delicious but brisket may have been a bit on the dry side. Staff was very friendly and even brought us some onion rings that were extra. Another great KCBBQ joint.

Danny Edwards serves good solid barbecue. What stands out to me are the specialty sandwiches, specifically, «The Southern Style,» which includes coleslaw poured on top of pulled pork with some sauce on top. It’s a nice combination of hot and cold temperatures and a good mix of flavors. They also offer regular size and large sandwiches for your choice of meat as well. The sides however, lack the luster of their main course counterparts. Of them, I really like the coleslaw, but I kind of expected a little more out of the other dishes. They will compliment your main course, but they don’t have the pizzazz of some of the sides at other places around town. Be aware, Danny’s is only open for lunch. It will get busy, but you shouldn’t have a problem parking or finding a seat.

The pork was well seasoned, served on a warm soft bun. The sauce exceeded the flavor by adding a nice mix of sweet and spicy. The fries were also well season. They lacked on crispiness but had nice flavor. It is noteworthy that the onion rings were amazing. If I judged them they would have a perfect score. Over all this place received a 91%.

Friendly and attentive staff plus good food. We love visiting the local establishments as we travel and this family owned business had such an interesting backstory and good review, we just had to stop and check it out for ourselves. It did not disappoint! Great food and served quickly. If we lived here, this would be a regular stopping spot for us.

All KCBBQ is good. Amazing even. This is the first BBQ joint I haven’t given 5⁄5 stars too. But that’s not bad! We didn’t realize they were only open for lunch which is really odd, and we were in until right at close. The staff here are super awesome. They’re fun to talk with and very helpful when it comes to their food items and the way they do things. A+ The food. I ordered«The Big D» seeing as it had lots or things I really enjoy on it and it was on TV. Unfortunately I was pretty let down by it. The meat was tender but not much flavor and I couldn’t taste any cheese on it. The burnt ends, ribs, and pulled pork on the other hand were fantastic. This may be the smokiest BBQ I’ve had and that’s a good thing. Fries were good but I guess I don’t see what’s so special about putting chili powder on them. Great location on SWBLVD by the brewery and lots of other food options and stuff. I’m sure they stay hella busy at lunch with all the businesses around. Oh and one more thing. The trains are loud.

This food is so good. Its a hidden little gem on the very outskirts of kcmo its practically in Kansas. I equally love their simple menu and struggle with it. It’s just all greasy goodness. There’s not really much available for a lighter meal option or GF friendly unless your good with just eating meat. That being said all makes most males in my sphere love it. That being said I would have loved recommending this joint for fathers day but they are closed on Sundays, and the rest of the week they close at 3pm. Best way to enjoy Danny Edwards BBQ, get it to go, bring it home or to the park for a comfy not so homemade meal. I had a bunch of family in town and we did the park just grab a ton of napkins maybe even wet wipes.

Back again and this time I grabbed a Burnt End sandwich dubbed the«Ol’ Smokey» and it was tremendous! Smokey with flavorful bark and slathered in a solid BBQ sauce. I will be eating this again… and again… and again! Side note(pun intended) the baked beans were a miss, the fries here still reign supreme.

Forgive me, Kansas City BBQ Gods, for not reviewing Danny Edwards BBQ a lot sooner. I’ve been chompin’ on the family’s succulent slow cooked meats since it was called Jake’s Barbeque around 1980 and his dad was running it out of an impossible little hole in the wall downtown. Great then, great now. Proud to say this is one of the great BBQ destinations in the city for my two cents. Solid smokey, tender meats, a hearty sauce that’s a bit on the sweet side, fairly traditional BBQ fries(unless you count the sweet potato version which I adore). If I was bringing someone from out of town looking to experience KCBBQ and this was my only option I’d be fine with that. Today’s choice: the Carolina style pulled pork sandwich with slaw. Yea, not exactly a KC choice, but undeniably wonderful. Tender, moist, melt-in-your mouth taste. It delivered. Their beans, filled with lots of smoke and tender meat, one of the better sides in the city going with Q. Service can be a tad slow but worth the wait. Not a place I frequent often but with so many great choices in town that’s not an indictment! Said it before: Kansas City needs to designate historic BBQ destinations with a special plaque to adorn the best of the best. The Edwards family is more than deserving of being a member of that club should it ever happen.

Yum yum yum! Happened upon this place after reviewing Unilocal for a decent lunch spot while on a work trip to KC. I visited around 1:30, so the lunch crowd was pretty much gone but the place still had a decent amount of traffic. I opted for the«low carb platter» which allows you to select 3 meat options. I chose the beef, pork, and the chicken. I chose wisely. All 3 were delightfully moist, smoky, and full of flavor. Their signature sauce was spicy, sweet, and a perfect accompaniment to the meat. The chicken looked pretty sad compared to the other two proteins, but once I peeled off the skin it revealed its tasty goodness. It probably was my favorite of the 3, but not one was disappointing. I would definitely return!

Thanks to Toni M’s review, four of us came to this popular BBQ restaurant and had a wonderful feast. Adorned with an industrial vibe, the large interior was composed a front counter, high ceilings, walls of photos, and plenty of tables with red-checkered tablecloths. We ordered at the counter, found a table, and waited for the staff to deliver the food. To me, when it comes to Danny Edward’s, it is all about their pork spareribs. They serve the Long End($ 12.99) and Short End($ 13.99), and both were tender, well seasoned and smoked so no sauce is necessary, and the meat was easy to fork off the bones. We were told the Short End is juicier, but the Long End was meatier and still mouthfuls of smoky deliciousness. I loved them both. We also shared a plate of Burnt Ends($ 12.99). The plate included chunky crispy smoked brisket edges, bread, and pickles. I’m not a big fan of Burnt Ends, but these were a tad easier to bite into than the ones at Fiorella’s. It was good, but not something I would personally order. Ironically, my least favorite was the Combo Plate($ 15.75). I initially thought the smoked beef, ham, ribs and the range of flavors was going to hit. On the contrary, the beef was not as succulent as the ones from Jethro’s, and it was difficult to expect ham to carry a lot of wow factor. The Combo Plate, and the Burnt Ends, were the only items that were reliant on the BBQ sauce. There BBQ sauces were good too: smooth, spicy, and complex. For sides, the fresh cut fries were nicely seasoned, impressively crispy, and the best I have ever had to date. Their fries were addictive and superior to those at Oklahoma Joe’s. The smoky baked beans were smooth, sweet, and delicious. The spicy jambalaya was tangy, not memorable, and my least favorite. Service was very friendly, thoughtful, attentive, personable, and our water was constantly refilled. Overall, I thought the ribs and fries could go toe to toe with anyone out there. I’d be very interested in coming back for more.
