The staff was friendly. The food was fast and cooked right. The location is easy to find. An overall good place.

From age 18 until my mid-20’s, my hangover greasy spoon spot was Chubby’s on Broadway. At some point it switched to Denny’s, perhaps because there was always one closer to where I lived, once I moved slightly out of reach of midtown. And for years Denny’s hit all the right notes — greasy, serviceable diner fare for the drunk soul. And they would always have weird limited-time stuff pop up out of the blue. Maybe because hangovers are rare these days, I have found the comedown disappointing. I went to Denny’s today because it’s my birthday and this location is close. I guess I should have shelled out a bit more cash for one of the many indie breakfast spots in KCMO — we have several and we do frequent those when we can. It hit me today that this location has gone wayyyy downhill. I ordered my usual — avocado chicken salad and side of fries. The fries were fine, I guess, but the salad was just very poor quality. The chicken was mostly gristle and what wasn’t gristle tasted old and as if they just put pepper/spice on it to disguise the taste. (Side note: didn’t Denny’s used to give a free small little dessert for birthdays? All they offered was a very slight discount on the Grand Slam. I thought that was odd.) I guess maybe it’s just hitting me late that I need to stick to a restaurant that puts care into their food. It seems like all the food here is kind of gross and overly salty and I haven’t left feeling satisfied in a long time.

Will never eat at any Denny’s again after our experience here. We arrived at 10:30am with our 3 kids. The place is dead empty. Waited an hour and 10 minutes to get our food.(how long do eggs and pancakes take?!?) When it arrived both of the kids meals were wrong and my food was cold. Remember how I said it was empty… plenty of seats available… well they squeezed 6 large people into the booth in back of us… this physically moved the booth and squeezed my husband and I into the table in front of us. We got up and left. Went to the Corner Café in Liberty instead. Should have went there first!

Went in around 2pm or so on a weekday. The food was great. This week I had the fried haddock fish with fries & a salad. Two weeks ago I had the veggie burger and a salad. Service left a lot to be desired. The wait staff was pleasant, but it took about 15 minutes to get our order taken and what seems like a half hour or so for the food to come. Since we were on a business lunch, time was rather short, and this made us late in getting back to work. Both times I’ve stopped in the place has been dead and pretty much empty. I think this leads to the dining room staff finding other things to do and forgetting about being attentive to the few customers they do have. Business might increase a bit in the day if they could develop the reputation of getting customers in and out a bit more quickly. I like the food, but will have to think twice about stopping in when I’m short on time.
